It’s an expensive lesson learned. Best rule of thumb is when getting your setup always factor which apps are CPU bound(intense) and which ones are GPU bound(intense) then prioritize your build accordingly to your needs. Well. Its because that on Performance mode, there is small load on the GPU, so the CPU is more used. Try high graphics with and without the External GPU and u see massive difference
I think it would work for people who want to have an office laptop but also want to transform it into a gaming laptop just by connecting a couple of cables. And ps the formula for the setup would be a laptop with a good processor and that may not have the best integrated or dedicated graphics card, but ps that can be fixed with the external graphics card

You have to go into windows settings > gaming > graphics, and add fornite to the list and make you select the 4090. Also I think you need a separate monitor to configure such a setup to see better gains and lower latency since shaders are processed by a discrete GPU and then fed back to through the express lane to be scaled by some Inegrated circuit on the motherboard which is introducing a lot more steps into feeding an image to you're eyes. Connecting a separate monitor and a DP or HDMI from the GPU will lower latency by quite a bit.
if you use throttlestop, set the new temp. limits, along with the right settings in the nvidia control panel, im sure u can get at least 250fps in battle royal.
