I still have the cartridge for this game and mine has a blockbuster sticker on it lol, I must of rented it and never returned it. Loved this game as a kid but could never get past the fight at 8:55
I’m getting stressed just watching this video. I was 8 years old and this was the Christmas gift that ruined my life. The determination it took. I still suffer from ptsd
Not a bad translation from film to game....obviously there are loads more baddies here to fill it out, but I thought the Final Fight type beat-'em-up combined with jumping and climbing challenges made for an interesting game. I liked the story screens in between stages, reproducing stills from the film and taking some of the dialogue.
you must have strange tastes in games then my friend, cause i remember when i played it for the first time my jaw hit the floor! and i had never even seen the movie, as a kid i was a huge double dragon fan and cliffhanger was like double dragon on steroids!
Btw, if i where you i'd laugh so bloody hard with all the negative comments and way to serious discussions ... i played this stuff on the sega 16 and had a pretty good time with it ... i sold the console when i was a kid for an upgrade and still regret it ... and your video gave me a nice flashback in the 90's ;). keep it up... Quote old chopper dude "the vision's good ive got atleast 20 miles in all directions".
good eye because as a kid I never played it but it looked cool to me. Looking back now it's like damn the cutscenes poorly done (Ninja Gaiden cutscenes for nes way better) The game play is so clunky and the sound sucks. It's graphically not too bad but they move so stiff and the whole game looks the same not even a angle on the mountain
***** I think what he's trying to get at is an emulation can (and usually does) contain errors, be they slight or major and as such this effects the quality of the video because some people are expecting to see the game as it was on the Mega Drive, it's like wanting to see a game on the Mega Drive and instead being presented with the same game but on a SNES or a Genesis (which runs slightly faster than the PAL version and thus has noticeable audio difference)
No wonder the combat is "repetitive". You just swished a knife around for 90%+ of the game (as in so far of the 15 mins I watched). I don't mind the occasional use of a weapon in beat em ups, but personally, I prefer to kick the sh*t out of my assailants using good old fashioned empty handed martial arts. Was amused to see Gabe impersonate Cody's strut though...
Nice yet it is still terrible and a lazy game. People that defend it are being nostalgic. I returned to retro only 99% of the time and this game is a joke as I just played level 1 and already it is a lazy game.
I loved to rent this from blockbuster. The fact that we played as Stallone was dope, for back then.

Interviewer: Do you have any experience with intensely stressful situations? Me: *flashbacks to the avalanche stage*
This avalanche stage is nothing compared to the Sega CD version while it looked cool it was a nightmare
say what you want people but for its time this was a really, REALLY badass game!
Apparently that plane was like a clown car, with an ungodly amount of soldiers inside.
I’m getting stressed just watching this video. I was 8 years old and this was the Christmas gift that ruined my life. The determination it took. I still suffer from ptsd
So sad maybe you should of stuck with Mario bros or tiny toons or Mario paint? These hate games are for the hardcore gamers back then
One thing I'll never forget after owning this game when I was little is that Stallone's character's name in Cliffhanger was Gabe
Only Silvester Stallone is able to climb and fight in the icemountains in a T-shirt :D
He is actually Lincoln Hawk not Gabe Walker 🤣
So he can show his pecs better
Did you all noticed that David Jaffe was a tester for this game?
That's graphically a good look at Stallone though.

Nice job dude, thx for posting, was some nice nostalgia.
The sly pic was quite accurate "considering the era" Qualen was a gdmn giant tough ;).
GG
come to think of it, how many guys are on the aircraft? So many guys Gabe had to encounter..
Never played the game, but I liked the commercial.
"You don't look healthy. Eat a roll."
This game was a torture test designed to make you lose your mind
man John Lithgow is a fuckin giant compared to Sylvester Stallone, who knew
Sylvester Stallone is 170cm and John Lithgow is 190cm.
Suits, pants, socks, 100 million dollars, the usual stuff :)
28:00 heath ledger joker is piloting the helicopter , you r welcome
Those clothes seem more from the movie "Over the top" 😅
I don’t think anyone is able to beat this game so hard
I had this game for Super Nintendo, use to play it all the time.
you must have strange tastes in games then my friend, cause i remember when i played it for the first time my jaw hit the floor! and i had never even seen the movie, as a kid i was a huge double dragon fan and cliffhanger was like double dragon on steroids!
This game was fun and hard at times all the haters can piss off cliffhanger was great man.
6:59 bug report !!
The music is pretty decent!!
at 3:55 we learn that performing magic rituals at a fireplace in the mountains can summon an avalanche
Had this game as a teen. Finally I get to see the end.
Me too. I never could beat it. That damn avalanche
Kids, always wear a jacket and a hat when going out playing with knifes in the winter. Otherweise you might freeze!
A fuk
Thanks mom
XD
It should mean worm words from that type of childrens lol
How the hell are you gonna outrun a avalanche on foot?
I used to play this on the snes.
That scrolling text, jesus my eyes!
You have forgiven ^^
Sega always had this bassy music
Btw, if i where you i'd laugh so bloody hard with all the negative comments and way to serious discussions ...

Does anyone know of any cheats for this version of the Sega Genesis?
I got the snes version and i love this but its so frustrading hard to beat
That Hitbox Miss On 4:17...
lol John Lithgow.
This guy is wearing a short sleeve in frigid weather conditions smh 😂
He not care..only one thing what he wanted were a good action.
Enemy only need lots of bodybags, nothing else hehe
5:16 - 5:20 Officially the only game where you get to shoot and/or gut the living shit out of Benjamin Franklin
That bad FM hi-hat noise tho
As far as I know it's a bug from the emulator.
I think it looks entertaining.
Uhhhhhhhhhh.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm...I'm pretty sure this is a movie very explicitly *not* about fighting people.
I rented this game from Blockbuster when it was still new and thought it was crappy back then. xD

JagOFFTroy
Awww, so Sly's character DOESN'T get the sweater like he does in the movie??
They wanted to show off his biceps even though in the film he was freezing when he had to go without his coat
half an hour to complete, and to think this probably cost about 30 quid back when it came out
14:35 he handled that well!!
splatterhouse.
This game is an approved cure for insomnia
Exactly cheesehead
I never new cliffhanger was a game I new about Rambo cool
the end boss is a knife fight against john lithgow, i think it should be a lot easier.
That background music used to freak me out
Here 2021 Covid Pandemic
perfect play
omuleanu f
John lithgow boss is the boss of all video bosses, boss, bossey,
Crappy emulation butchering the sound. That awful beep isn't there on a genuine console.
He looks more like Frank Stallone than Silvester.
Where am I?
Travers: "Get the money"
Me:No
Travers:"Fuckin' ay I've lost it!"
GEES AND I THOUGHT STALONE WAS ON STEROIDS UNTIL 19:16 WHEN YOU SEE THE BADDIE IS JUST CHUCKING BOULDERS NO PROBS.
We need him for street of rage mods
first game i owned on sega
That sure is a lot of crooks Stallone has to fight through. There were just a handful of crooks in the movie.
cut people with a knife but no blood wtf ???????
Epic _ I want this game _
Mobs: Eeeeeeeeehhh!
my childhood 2003-2012
this game is clearly isn't from your childhood like mine was.
I was really pissed when I bought this game and beat it in like 25 minutes. I took it back and returned it the same day.
I wonder what rent giver says or asks..but you hopefully sayd:its good game but bloody short =/
Stop lying, once you open the game you can't return it dickhead
25 minutes? Not bloody likely
This game is based on movie or the movie is based on this game?
The movie was first, they decided for some reason to make games based off of it.
Gracias por el aporte.
This is emulator, not mega drive
***** 4.36 the beep beep sound
when you hear the beep, means that it is ' an emulator also poor
Been just the mega drive
*****

Good point.
Since you want to be technical, Sega Genesis and Mega Drive are one in the same. The Mega Drive was European.
@@RejectedSpiritX They are not the same one runs faster than the other.
It’s like Double Dragon
This version is GOLD compared to the NES version. That was one truly disgusting piece of software!
He can fight in the game but not in the movie...
The Genesis version was certainly the inferior port in comparison to the other platforms.
~JagOfTroy
Not really. Genesis version controls are slightly tighter
That was hard but cool 😁
Awesome game
MY GOD GAME!
The original Uncharted... If only it had a bit more polish. lol
Very difficult game
Classic
Great

Yee battletoads..nice big foot and Bigger fist :D
really bad shooters after the bonfire hehe
Looks more like master system
Master System xD
its a good game
wow
Id rather play the Sega version of Capcom's The Punisher arcade game, even that tough game was more easier than this waste.
Am I the only person who got stuck at the avalanche part and never beat it ?
Nice yet it is still terrible and a lazy game. People that defend it are being nostalgic. I returned to retro only 99% of the time and this game is a joke as I just played level 1 and already it is a lazy game.
How very 8-bit
What an absolute turd of a game!
What an awful awful game😂
I agree with you. I had this when i was about 12, didn´t like it at all and finally i gave it to my friend for free and said you can keep it.
