But the biggest problem I had in my experiment with the parts I had was this; Carbon fiber blocks radio signals incredibly well. Of course, we also need to consider atmospheric conditions.

      I’m a newbie to “droning”.
      I’ve only flew mine where I could see it, probably no more than 30 meters away and only as high as 40 meters. My drone will fly 5km.
      I’ve not flown at all this week due to our lovely weather here 🇬🇧 🌧️ 💨

    Dude, you're setting the bar high and redefining what long-range flights are all about. My 5 km runs look like a joke now. I'm not jealous at all; actually, I'm stoked to see what our gear can really do. Mad props, man, that was a flight to remember. Quick question though: when you hit the farthest point, did GPS Rescue kick in? If so, how long did it take before you got control back?

    • @christianmong-hansen1835
      @christianmong-hansen1835  หลายเดือนก่อน +19

      Hey Buddy ! 5 km is pretty far and is 100% longrange also, this is more extreme-range for a fpv quad. when you hit the 23.4 mark the dji 03 unit just cuts signal, i had to manually press RTH , and it did fly 10-11 km without any signal to the goggles, this is fine as long as you KNOW your failsafe settings is 100% , and you have the correct cruising speed (too slow and too fast RTH speed will make you loose your drone at this range)

      @@christianmong-hansen1835 Losing video and waiting several minutes for it to return is just funny. (Must have been like 5mins?)
      One thing maybe you can test, (I’ve done some initial testing and it seems to help) is to turn off “Low Power” mode.
      Theory: When DJI O3 loses signal it disconnects and goes into “low power standby mode”. Since it’s low power it takes a long time to reconnect especially in a long range situation.
      With this turned off I’d expect the connection/image to return much quicker!
      What do you think?

    • @MadRC
      @MadRC 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@GiantAntCowboyI have discussed this in one of the deep dive videos.
      It’s not low power mode, it far more complex than that.
      DJI O3 is fully dynamic so it’s constantly channel hopping and adapting its RF output in Auto.
      When the link drops the system enters a failsafe polling mode where it changes the carrier to 10Mhz and then is polling on a number of frequency’s for the goggles.
      Once the system re establishes the link it then jumps back into normal operating mode.
      The behaviour here is all dictated by what DJI have set the link establishment threshold at.
      DJI O3 is far happier to hang on to the link at 1mbps compared to the V1 system however what it won’t then do is reconnect back at that bitrate again, it waits till it’s reached some unknown level before it then kicks back in.
      The original DJI FPV system did behave somewhat similar to this but it would reconnect far quicker. DJI definitely made some changes in O3 that means you will find your self most of the way back before it kicks back in.
      We know DJI is able to accurately even measure the range based on the packet timing so it may even be an arbitrary distance factor however it’s most likely some packet timing requirement along side a long quality metric.
      Avatar HD on the other hand does not behave like this and I actually got CaddX to change its behaviour in the early days to keep the Goggles transmitting on full rf power once armed even in link drop.
      A last note it it’s DJI and Avatar have different setups for the master device. On DJI VTX is always transmitting and polling in signal loss. On Avatar it’s the goggles and the VTX actually goes dark on signal loss till the goggles are picked up again.
      Mad.

    • @GiantAntCowboy
      @GiantAntCowboy 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MadRC thanks for the info, I obviously should have just asked you first… As you know I’ve historically only used Analog/HDZero for mountain surfing flights and that’s because they give real-time (basically) honest feedback. If/When the image cuts out it immediately comes back when LOS is restored.
      DJI & WS on the other hand “hide the truth” a bit with delays which can be disastrous in the mountains. At 80kph the quad is traveling about 22m/s so even a 200ms delay equals 4.5m of travel! When flying along a ridge-line this can easily be a crashed quad before you even know there’s a delay. Then of course there’s frozen screens & lost connections…
      However with all that said I recently started flying DJI O3 and love it. Incredible image and performance, but it’s only a matter of time before I’m on my next “search & rescue mission” haha! Thanks again for the reply, cheers!

    I have some questions for anyone who’s interested about what remote and goggle combo I need to use for the new Helion I just ordered.
    Here’s what I have:
    - DJI FPV Goggles V2 and DJI Remote Control 2 (Came with the DJI FPV Fly More Combo)
    - DJI Goggles 3 and DJI Remote Control 3 (Avata 2 Fly More Combo)
    I purchased the Helion 10 with the additional ELRS 2.4 receiver and a Commando 8 Remote Control.
    I know I can use the DJI Goggles and Remote with the Helion 10 as it has the DJI O3 HD Air unit preinstalled. However, if I use the Commando ELRS remote with the ELRS 2.4 receiver, which goggles are compatible? Can I use the DJI FPV Goggles V2? Or do I need the DJI Goggles 2? Or the DJI Goggles Integra?
    If I decide I’d rather fly the Helion 10 with the DJI Goggles and Remote, do I need to disconnect the ELRS 2.4 receiver or can I just link the DJI Goggles and Remote to the DJI O3 Air Unit?
    Thanks in advance for the help! I’ve been struggling with finding the answers!

There's no excuse with betaflight 4.5 and gps moduls for less than 20 €/$ also gps rescue gives you way more confidence at the edge of losing your signal. Just hit the gps rescue button and wait for video signal returns 😊
