I freaking love Tomodachi Game. The fact that there is a protagonist out there that is savage and brutal and especially does not blush against female characters is always a refreshing reading experience. I can only think of like 10 other manga protagonists who have this kind of behavior, and Yuuchi still has his own style that cannot be copied by anyone else. Ayanokoji is a genius, Light is great in his planning, but Yuuchi just strikes right in the core of the human heart. He is cunning, knows what he is doing, has a high ego, but willing to throw it aside for the sake of winning. He does not hesitate to bow to anyone but is not willing to do that without purpose or for free. Yuichi is always the last winner of the game may make the story less depth and on one side, but I don't care. Seeing Yuuchi is entertaining as heck and how he wins always caught me off guard.

Well, the thing is the kind of protagonist like Yuuichi is quite rare in the manga world because for some reason Japanese authors really like the kind of guy that has a pure heart and innocence, so I can only recommend the ones that have a similar Main Character (violence and brutal), some of them might not be from the same genre, but hope you can enjoy it. - Akira from Rebuild World - Raoul from FUKUSHUU WO KOINEGAU SAIKYOU YUUSHA WA, YAMI NO CHIKARA DE SENMETSU MUSOU SURU - Isagi Yoichi from Blue Lock, this one is about sport, but it favors individualism more than teamwork, so give it a try - Gabimaru from Hell's Paradise, or Jigokuraku - Denji from Chainsaw Man - Goblin Slayer - Ragna Crimson - Drifters - ABNORMAL-KEI JOSHI, this one is quite weird and the author drops it after 15 chapters - Gamble Fish, this is really old, judging from the art, and it is about the gambling world - Kamisama, Kisama Wo Koroshitai, I don't know what to say about this manga other than a weird plot about a teenager serial killer with a messed up mind. If you want some comedy, Beelzebub, D-frag, and Grand Blue are all good choices If you want something like Death Note or kind of survival game, check When Night Falls, Area D, Green Worldz, Btoom, Hakaijuu, Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi (some people called it Erased), Real Account (this one is only good in the first arc really), Darwin Game is cool but they are not really competitive like Death Note Well, that is all I can think of, Ayanokoji is much cooler on the novel than anime or manga, and I haven't watched Code Geass yet, but this is probably enough for a while.

It feels like Yuuichi is different from Light, LeLouch and Ayanokoji, because he isn't particularly smart in general like the other ones or acts as a observer. Yuuichi, just like Ronin said, is a manipulator and someone who uses bonds between humans to destroy his opponents.
Yuuichi after just 30 chapters became one of my favorite characters of all time period. No one can convince me otherwise after the shit he does in the manga, it's so unconventional with his methods that it's so entertaining.
I picked up Tomodachi Game maybe 5-6 months prior to them announcing an adaptation. I was definitely nervous about the adaptation, and even now being caught up about 8 episodes in, I'm not sure how to feel about it completely yet. What I can say as someone who read the manga, who loves Death Note and Code Geass more than I care to admit, is that Yuuichi stuck out to me from the very beginning. I feel he's a really amazing character, and his ability to fool the audience as well as every character around him is incredibly impressive. Tomodachi Game lacks the predictability that I feel a lot of works in the same vein as it has, and most all of that is due to Yuuichi himself. From the art to the nature of Yuuichi, I'd have to agree here that he's an incredible protagonist. I hope the anime inspires more people to actually pick up the manga, since with a 12 episode run time I feel some of Yuuichi's best moments aren't going to make it (unless a S2 comes around). tl;dr yuuichi goated and tomodachi game is fun and refreshing
Well season 1 is going to end on the kuroki arc, so if they do the final episode right, it will get the audience hyped up to actually pick the manga cuz man my 3 favourite parts of the manga are the current arc, the gambling arc and kuroki part, it just shows how badass yuichi is So I hope they get it right
damn season 1 didnt include the transfree filler the girl that want to destroy the friendship of yuiichi group got kidnapped then yuiichi save him by playing a game of russian roulette saying the more the bullets the more fun and that trick the enemy giving yuiichi the gun with 5 bullets enough for the people that kidnapped the girl , that is a good chapter hope it will made as an ova or something im quite dissapointed in the anime they made it fast paced. watching anime is like a freshly cooked steak you should wait longer to taste the perfevtion as it cook lowly in the inside
What makes yuichi better than light yagami is that he doesn't have just one plan, he has backup plans for his backup plans, he pretty much predicts every possible outcome and makes hedge bets as counter measures

personally I think the thrill of the plot in tomodachi game really allows Yuuchi to excel at this role. Really well made setting for this main charecter and will be waiting for new chapters. But still I like the personality and the background of ayanokoji. He cant really put us in those life and death thrills because of the setting but to me I like that he can stay unnoticed and allow others to do the things he wants without too much contact. But all in all both of the characters are so well written that its hard to even compare, its all personal preference.
His plans get stronger as they go, his 1st plan could fail only for you to realize he has a 2nd plan that's even stronger, and then that fails only for you to realize again that his 3rd plan is even stronger, so he makes his own outcome instead of waiting for a fitting one.
He was the only reason i watched the anime and then when people told me that the manga is a masterpiece i was like aight imma give it a try. From that moment Yuuichi became my favourite protagonist out of every anime and manga i have seen and read. It's so nice to see his messed up face everytime he suprises the opponent with a late winner.
Even with SpxFamily, Ao Ashi and such I still think Tomodachi Game is probably my favorite anime of this season, the protagonist, the side characters, the animation and the *plot twists* are just unmatched
@Loki Well humor is subjective. I was laughing throughout the whole Spy x Family series and loved some of the OSTs. Also it's kinda ironic bringing up Demon Slayer and saying Spy x Family is overrated and overhyped. This is literally no other anime I can think of that is more overrated and overhyped than Demon Slayer.
I'm definitely a big fan of Yuichi. Moving onto the manga now after finishing the anime, and enjoying the hell out of his character. I'm a really big fan of Ayanokouji, but one of my biggest issues with him is that I never really get the feeling that he'll actually lose - that's great from a power fantasy POV, but sometimes I feel like the stakes just aren't high enough, which is one of the reasons Horikita is my favourite character and someone I love seeing the perspective of. Another issue I have with him is that I feel like there's so much potential to explore the aspect of his personality that rejects the white room and actually wants to be a normal high schooler, but I often feel like there's missed opportunities (especially in recent Y2 LN releases) to really explore that. With Yuuichi, there's absolutely that human aspect to him that genuinely cherishes his friends, and the contrast with the insanely sadistic side to him makes him so damn entertaining while also making me really enjoy rooting for him, especially because his plans aren't always completely perfect, which feels much more realistic than the borderline fortune telling that a lot of similar protags can do. At this point I probably still prefer Kouji but I could totally see Yuichi overtaking him for me. Also, loved hearing the kizumonogatari soundtrack in the background, didn't know you'd watched that! If you haven't read the zaregoto novels which are also by Nisio Isin I'd absolutely recommend them (there is also an 8 ep OVA of the first volume). Ii is, imo, pretty similar to protagonists like Kouji or Yuichi in his ability to trick the reader, while also being pretty different from them considering how deeply flawed he is.
katagiri is a Goat, im on chapter 50 of the manga and i love his character, his craziness is what draws me in, he’s definitely top 10 protagonists of all time
I agree that yuiichi is a great character, He use his weakness and become advantage best example is hide and seek game although his team is outnumbered they find a way to win the game. I really like how he plan step by step and the way he act to manipulate the opponent
Just like yuuichi, the apparently only psychotic and one dimensional character who was influenced by his devious teacher and his loving mother tries to answer the question money or friends is truly magnificent
He actually slowly became my favorite main character the longer I see him, he get compared alot to kiyotaka ayanokoji, but I like him 100x more than ayanokoji which is just completely undefeatable while Katagiri is absolutely deep and a hook so big you can't remove your eyes of him when he is in screen

I love how u focus on him being different from the others because of his ability to read people. I've only watched the anime but during the third game where he was able to use the girl against group k by jus watchin them over the course of 2 days and on top of that his plan going perfect was really fun to watch. I do plan on reading the manga and I really hope there is a season 2 release in the following years or even just an announcement.

I just started the manga and am at chapter 91 yuuichi is insane I love his character and the manga was great especially the gambling arc after he "loses" and at the end you see his crazy smile and I was like really.
There is a reason Yuuichi is referred to as a monster, devil, and even evil by the other characters in this series. He’s an a monster that crushes others and takes any action no mater how lowly it is to ensure the win.
I've always been able to deduce atleast a little bit about what means the protagonist might use to win given situation, what makes tomodachi game one of the best Mangas is it's unpredictability, The was yuuichi turns the situation around always catches me off hard, After he explains how he did what he did I'd be like "HOW? Why couldn't I think of that?" Yuuichi is on eof the badass smart characters I've seen in a while after Light, Lelouch, Ayanokoji. I've always been craving for that 200 iq mc who can get win any situation using his big brain and doesn't hesitate to use any means necessary to do so.

One thing I can respect about Tomodachi Game is that most of the plot twists are hidden in plain sight, and that usually lets you get a couple bit and pieces that you know have some function in the overarching twist but learning how they're used is always a shock. CotE has some moments like this, but core details are revealed near the end.

Read usogui, pretty old manga but folds most mangas in terms of psychology mind games and is one of my all time favourites as of early, read it very recently it has excellent art, plot and the antagonist is so good
As The Gods Will is definitely another thrilling death game / 4D chess type of manga as well, some crazy badass characters. The games are really intriguing as well.

I would recommend you to watch 'One Outs'. It's protagonist Toua Tokuchi is also very badass and smart, probably more than the three mentioned in this video I think. It is labelled as a sports anime but it's more kind of a psychological anime. :)

I'm three months late but I'm so tired of COTE fans comparing Ayanokoji to Yuuichi when they've never read the Tomodachi Game manga (and it's clear that most of you haven't). I've watched the COTE anime, and I haven't been impressed by the MC so far. The anime was ok but definitely seems overhyped (don't attack me, I'm sure it gets better in the Light novels but based on what I've watched so far, I haven't been mind blown or on the edge of my seat). That's not to say that Ayanokoji isn't amazing. I haven't read the light novels so it would be unfair for me to judge Ayanokoji's character based on what little I've seen from the anime. It would also be unfair for me to say that Yuuichi is a better protagonist than Ayanokoji since I've read all of Tomodachi Game but not all of COTE. I say that to say, if you haven't read the Tomodachi Game manga, then please think twice about calling Ayanokoji a better protagonist than Yuuichi because of the light novels. Read the manga first and then formulate an unbiased opinion❤️.

Katagiri IS INSANE, jesus christ, watching his schemes throughout the manga has just made me awestruck, i love this series so much.
Best part is in the ongoing arc everything he does seems to just sabotage for himself, but we all know he will come out as the winner

ayanokoji is coming in 2022 with second season, he can be serious competition, specially if volume 7 of ln is covered.
Oh for sure, Ayanakoji is DEFINITELY really close character wise to Yuuichi so it wasn't an easy decision to make

Another issue I have with him is that I feel like there's so much potential to explore the aspect of his personality that rejects the white room and actually wants to be a normal high schooler, but I often feel like there's missed opportunities (especially in recent Y2 LN releases) to really explore that.
With Yuuichi, there's absolutely that human aspect to him that genuinely cherishes his friends, and the contrast with the insanely sadistic side to him makes him so damn entertaining while also making me really enjoy rooting for him, especially because his plans aren't always completely perfect, which feels much more realistic than the borderline fortune telling that a lot of similar protags can do. At this point I probably still prefer Kouji but I could totally see Yuichi overtaking him for me.
Also, loved hearing the kizumonogatari soundtrack in the background, didn't know you'd watched that! If you haven't read the zaregoto novels which are also by Nisio Isin I'd absolutely recommend them (there is also an 8 ep OVA of the first volume). Ii is, imo, pretty similar to protagonists like Kouji or Yuichi in his ability to trick the reader, while also being pretty different from them considering how deeply flawed he is.

I agree that yuiichi is a great character, He use his weakness and become advantage best example is hide and seek game although his team is outnumbered they find a way to win the game. I really like how he plan step by step and the way he act to manipulate the opponent

Kiyotaka is such a interesting character a man who learned to enjoy simple things like emotion and yet does not envy others he is truly interesting
Just like yuuichi, the apparently only psychotic and one dimensional character who was influenced by his devious teacher and his loving mother tries to answer the question money or friends is truly magnificent

He actually slowly became my favorite main character the longer I see him, he get compared alot to kiyotaka ayanokoji, but I like him 100x more than ayanokoji which is just completely undefeatable while Katagiri is absolutely deep and a hook so big you can't remove your eyes of him when he is in screen

I love how u focus on him being different from the others because of his ability to read people. I've only watched the anime but during the third game where he was able to use the girl against group k by jus watchin them over the course of 2 days and on top of that his plan going perfect was really fun to watch. I do plan on reading the manga and I really hope there is a season 2 release in the following years or even just an announcement.

I've always been able to deduce atleast a little bit about what means the protagonist might use to win given situation, what makes tomodachi game one of the best Mangas is it's unpredictability, The was yuuichi turns the situation around always catches me off hard, After he explains how he did what he did I'd be like "HOW? Why couldn't I think of that?" Yuuichi is on eof the badass smart characters I've seen in a while after Light, Lelouch, Ayanokoji. I've always been craving for that 200 iq mc who can get win any situation using his big brain and doesn't hesitate to use any means necessary to do so.

One thing I can respect about Tomodachi Game is that most of the plot twists are hidden in plain sight, and that usually lets you get a couple bit and pieces that you know have some function in the overarching twist but learning how they're used is always a shock. CotE has some moments like this, but core details are revealed near the end.

Idk bout y'all but Tomodachi Game came to me at the right time cuz in my 12 years of watching anime I was becoming strangely anticipating/feeling deprived of a protagonist who can just become fcking _unhinged_ and that's actually his power
What makes Yuuichi double his appeal is that he can kill and you really don't know if he's actually gonna do it - right off the bat in the first game he shows that he has the ability to and will switch the gears of the hunting grounds you made and become the predator, and make you the one threatened, the real prey

I would recommend you to watch 'One Outs'. It's protagonist Toua Tokuchi is also very badass and smart, probably more than the three mentioned in this video I think. It is labelled as a sports anime but it's more kind of a psychological anime. :)
I think Yuuchi is really great, but I'm still waiting for a moment like with Lelouch, L or even Amado, that will make think "I definitely didn't see that coming at all"

I'm three months late but I'm so tired of COTE fans comparing Ayanokoji to Yuuichi when they've never read the Tomodachi Game manga (and it's clear that most of you haven't). I've watched the COTE anime, and I haven't been impressed by the MC so far. The anime was ok but definitely seems overhyped (don't attack me, I'm sure it gets better in the Light novels but based on what I've watched so far, I haven't been mind blown or on the edge of my seat). That's not to say that Ayanokoji isn't amazing. I haven't read the light novels so it would be unfair for me to judge Ayanokoji's character based on what little I've seen from the anime. It would also be unfair for me to say that Yuuichi is a better protagonist than Ayanokoji since I've read all of Tomodachi Game but not all of COTE. I say that to say, if you haven't read the Tomodachi Game manga, then please think twice about calling Ayanokoji a better protagonist than Yuuichi because of the light novels. Read the manga first and then formulate an unbiased opinion❤️.
