Absolutely keep the old world coming. The mercenary army sounds awesome. Also love the bits of lore, both GW lore and your personal army lore. The questing night champion lore you created for the obnoxious blind knight was a blast to listen to.
Thanks for another great video Andy! I hadn't even considered Dogs of War for Old World, but as you say, they offer a lot more variation than state uniformed troops, so totally agree with you there. That said, I'd love to see the Kislev models you mentioned!
Lovely looking general, i remember them being released...time marches on. I would love to see more Dogs of War, especially the Birdmen of Catrazza, they and the Galloper Guns were my favourites from the range.
I had some Bearman of Urslo in my Chaos army, back in the day. My army had an 'ice and snow' basing scheme, so I painted them as polar bears and everybody - EVERYBODY! - always commented on them. You should definitely go ahead with your Dogs of War army!
What a sculpt! And beautiful paint job as always! Loving seeing these old school models. Please keep them coming 😁. Very keen to follow the Dogs of War project
Really excited to see this project develop based on how great your Bretonnian videos have been. When I was interested in WFB the DoW were one of those things I was most fascinated by. It certainly doesn't hurt that the Perrys sculpted so much of the range (and I guess I shouldn't be suprised I'm more interested in historicals these days). Great choice of shield for that conversion and really happy to see you get to use your orange and black after all!
I wish I had the money when these first came out to have gotten the lot! Long Drong and his mates and Lumpin Croop and his lads still have pride of place on my shelf after all these years. Also have the Desert Dogs, the "twin" giants and Druid, and a few others. I can't wait to see you do this army mate!
Good video as always, Andy. If you want some good proxy models for your DoW army, I recommend Perry Miniatures 1450-1500 range of kits or any models revolving around the Italian Wars of the early 16th century. There's a video on TH-cam interviewing the Perrys and they mention people used Dogs of War miniatures as historicals.
Just remembered, while there are four different poses for the Alcatani, and indeed the other pike Regiments as well, there are actually 20+ individual sculpts for them. I'm guessing they were the first regiment the Perry's did, as the other Pike Regiments have significantly less individual poses
Bring on the pike blocks! Dogs of War is basically my favorite range of sculpts, I can't wait to get mine back on the table too. Have fun with the project!
I love the old Dogs of War range. Great to see them still being used in games - and I love the colour scheme on this. I can copy this for a Blood Bowl team I'm planning 😆
Awesome! I love the dogs of war back in the day, mostly as i am a sucker for lore and units with unique lore were great. I had the Lumpin Coop Fighting Cocks unit once upon a time, sadly disappeared now, but would look forward to seeing that on the painting table! A personal project you are inspired by would be grand, similar with Grail/Questing Knoght, passion makes art. And it has such an array you can show off several colours and techniques.
I frigging love this! DOW were my first WFB love. I had them all, led by Borgio the Besieger and his spiked cannonball mace. Ah I’m getting all misty eyed at this. Only got the Giants of Albion left - that’s Bollogs, Cachtorr and Hengus the Druid. Overjoyed to see you paint old Lorenzo.
I need GW to release an official Dogs of War army for TOW. As much as I love all the original units, releasing new ones for the new time period would be even more amazing. I do also want to build a Tilea themed Empire army so I guess I could create my own period appropriate mercenaries and do it that way too.
Kinda funny how this old miniature still manages to look much better than Warlord Games' current range of romans in the Hail Caesar range. I think that the Dogs of War would be the only thing that could get me invested in the Old World, the other factions are cool and all but the Dogs of War are something else.
Ooooh when you mentioned Dogs of War in your patreon vid (that's a plug) I remembered the 'roman soldier guy with his retinue of guys with leopard pelts' from about 20 years ago but I couldn't remember his name. Still a great sculpt.
looks amazing i forgot this guy existed, i remember the dogs of war coming out i started it then i didnt get very far with it but it was good fun......would love to see you do the horse drawn canon unit.....
Let me be one of many to say - DO IT ANDY!! I have a great big DoW army over here in the US so I'd love to see you bring them to life across the pond. Love the content- don't stop.

Definitely thought you were starting a Roman Republic army, but I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve never seen this model and hope the Dogs of War keep coming.
Ave Lorenzo! Never seen him before, he does look amazing. It'd be cool if there'd be an entire roman Phalanx to go with him tbh. Gotta love the idea of heavily armored infantry blocks with rows of spears and shields interlocking to be a fighting brick. Kinda what I picked up my Tomb Kings for; they kinda fit that theme quite well and Egypt was tied to Rome. I kinda want the old metal Maiden Guard and Alarielle but they're way too expensive to consider. I wonder if GW will reissue them as a "Made to Order" sale when the High Elves come out... that'd be cool. I'd definitely consider a unit of 20 Maiden Guard and Alarielle to go with them if they did. For now I can't paint too much, last thing I finished was my Duke on Hippogryph; hope you liked the pictures on Twitter, it was a blast to build. XD
Yeah the maiden guard are nice I did manage to pickup that set with alarielle back in the day but I still need to find the champion at a decent price on eBay…
@@AM-uw3gp Local store has the lot of them on sale but it's 75 bucks per 5 normal guard, 60 for Alarielle, 75 for the 3 command mini's so in total that's almost 400 bucks for a unit and Alarielle which I deem.... well over what is fair.
I’m down to see more dogs of war I think they’re super cool! And I know you like orange, but orange and black just screams Halloween to me lol. You should paint them orange and blue for the channel colors if you do the whole force one color!
I am sure the unit with heavy armour and pikes could be used as something like Greatswords? There wasn't exactly a Greatsword analogue in the Dogs of War, so it's not treading on any toes. The Birdmen would make a great stand-in for Pistoliers. Looking forward to seeing what you do with these.
YES!!! Dogs of War are awesome af! I’ve been slowly trying to get an idea of what to do for Dogs so this is perfect! @@MediocreHobbies Looking forward to it. I've done Midas and a few Bodyguard. I'm using the Averlander minis for the bodyguard. I should get back to them, got a bit hung up on a basing theme
i hope you have enough models already else it will cost you a lot :) i had a few of those units, one of those pike units and the crossbow with the large shields and the heavy cavalary and the paymaster off corse.
Didn't he had the rules that you had to role for a battle to see what kind of sport he had been training for which resulted in having a certain special benefit for a battle?
I’ll be honest I saw the thumbnail and thought you were going to proxy models from another game for Old World. I am curious about the “Bird-man” models, crossbowman with a set of wings? Kind of want to see that has well as the Paymaster, also great work on the model as always!
I have them! And yes they’ll be coming to the army soon! I wanted to start with the paymaster but I couldn’t fit it into my week so I needed a smaller model instead 😄
Always varnish them afterwards! Other than that, there’s not a huge difference. Try to have reference photos if some of the detail is lost when you’re trying to pick it out at the start and make sure you hold it in a way that is comfortable. You’d be surprised how heavy the model gets while you’re painting. Same with the base, make sure it’s not going to topple over when you put it down.
I may be remembering wrong, but didn’t a Dogs of War army require a “Pay Chest” cart model to be used as they need to be paid… would love to see your scheme for that. Awesome job as ever.
There's a copy of that shield on ebay right now... This project rocks! I'll buy it and send it your way if you think you'd still maybe want it? Though what you did looks super baller too... Just a thought, and wanted to add some support, not being able to commit to monthly patreon payments ATM...
I very much appreciate the offer pal. But I shall stick with me current shield I mite change it at the end of the project if I have a very original project on my hands. And I understand not everybody can do the Patreon watching liking and being subscribed is an amazing help. Thank you.
@@MediocreHobbies They used to, but what they do now can't hold the candle to what they used to do nor to so many different offers that are around nowadays. But if you like them, more power to you.

Thanks for the video! Any advice on painting metal minis compared to plastic?
Always varnish them afterwards! Other than that, there’s not a huge difference. Try to have reference photos if some of the detail is lost when you’re trying to pick it out at the start and make sure you hold it in a way that is comfortable. You’d be surprised how heavy the model gets while you’re painting. Same with the base, make sure it’s not going to topple over when you put it down.
I may be remembering wrong, but didn’t a Dogs of War army require a “Pay Chest” cart model to be used as they need to be paid… would love to see your scheme for that.
Awesome job as ever.
Oh that’s coming, don’t worry! I planned to start the army with it but it will take more than a day to paint so needed to plan ahead more 😄
There's a copy of that shield on ebay right now...
Thank you.
was an absolute fan of WHFB, but never liked the Dogs of War. They were very dorky and didn't look they would fit. Well, that was the point, I guess.
Harsh words lol. But each other’s own.
A figure from the time when GW could still produce cool figures!
That’s just not true lol. They make the best miniatures in the word.
@@MediocreHobbies They used to, but what they do now can't hold the candle to what they used to do nor to so many different offers that are around nowadays. But if you like them, more power to you.
