yeah.. been doing some nickel plating myself. As you show, prep and polishing are the big deal. For steel it is pretty simple to copper plate then nickel over that. It is also easy to nickel over steel or existing nickel. Getting copper to plate over nickel tho? mostly it takes an 'activator' in my experiance... kinda just an acid that gives a little bite to plating. Stripping off all the old nickel works but that can be a real chore.
Definitely is something that takes time and practice. I haven't tried plating anything since but I have tried stripping and nothing seems to be working properly 🤷♂️
@@igolf906 For a bad nickel job I did when I was learning I had plated an extra barrel for a 36 caliber cap and ball Colt clone. sooo... what I did was just sand and polish it out till it was smooth which of course did not get all the old nickel off but because the part was now highly polished I just ran it through the nickel again and it came out great. That is how I would have done your top break if you wanted a nice glossy finish which...you did not but.. that is the way I would do it. One very cool cordless tool I use a lot is a Ryobi hand held belt sander that takes one inch belts. sorta like a small chain saw but with belts instead of a chain... anyway you can get belts from 60 grit down to 1000 or maybe even finer. The rounded pulley part in the front is also good for some curved areas. It works particularly well on the octagon barrel flats. I use it a lot for all sorts of things. I actually do a lot of work right at my desk with cordless tools. Very handy
They're Convolute wheels specific to Supergrit. Check out their website. I will be trying out different types of wheels also to see what type of finishes I can get
It varies depending on your setup but for me, I like to have a thick layer so I usually leave it in for an hour or two. I'm still learning to plate but, for me I like it a little thicker so I have room to buff out any imperfections.
It was a customers putter so, I only make putts with them prior to restoring 😁. So I did not see if there was a difference. BUT. I'm assuming they are similar to all the Pro Platinum models as they were carbon steel plated in (I believe) nickel also.
I haven't really messed with it at all since, due to not really getting requests for it. In order to really do quality work I think I would have to upgrade my setup and that would be an expensive experiment.
Nice work. Like how you matched the grip for the color scheme, ties it nicely together!
Thank you!
As much as the copper would have looked cool, the nickel still came out really good.

i think it turned out so nice.!
Beauty!
Nice done as always, can you please share the model of the nylon fiber wheels? Thanks

How long do you leave the golf club in the nickel plating bath??

Did this change the feel of the putter while putting?
It was a customers putter so, I only make putts with them prior to restoring 😁. So I did not see if there was a difference. BUT. I'm assuming they are similar to all the Pro Platinum models as they were carbon steel plated in (I believe) nickel also.
Did you find a technique that worked?
I haven't really messed with it at all since, due to not really getting requests for it. In order to really do quality work I think I would have to upgrade my setup and that would be an expensive experiment.
What's this process cost?
I no longer offer nickel plating. But if you're wondering about restore costs feel free to email me!
Have you thought about re-milling the face?
I have. But I need to fix up my mill, and practice on some test pieces before I start milling out Scotties. Lol. Might be awhile before I try this.
Hey i had your email but lost it. Was wanting to ask some questions!

Turned out nice but you have to re mill that face.
Customer didn't want it done.
