    Hi Lauren, I do so enjoy your flosstubes and all of the projects you work on. I’m so happy that you taught yourself the magic loop. I think you’ll find that it’s a much better way to knit socks than the small circular. Socks should have negative ease, i.e. they should be smaller in circumference than your foot. I have seen that many people that use the small circulars end up with “floppy” socks. Also, the tighter (smaller) the gauge on your socks, the longer they’ll wear. I’ve knit over 20 pair of socks for my husband and he’s still wearing some that are over 20 years old. Enjoy all your projects and please keep sharing them with us - you inspire us.

    • @newhampshirestitcher

      Good to know that tight gauge helps with socks because I pretty much always knit too tightly!! Thank you for the info - I feel like knitting is such a rabbit hole and I am only at the very beginning of my journey!!

    Turning the heel is magic. I knit a lot of socks (such easy travel projects, especially on planes!) and sometimes, socks are boring with the exception of the heel. Of course, I've knit almost a half dozen pairs this year, so I think I've burned myself out. Whoops.

      In hand stitching is another thing I would like to learn, though maybe that will have to wait a bit since I am still so new to two handed! For the socks it's so interesting - everyone seems to have a pretty strong preference for their own knitting between Magic Loop, circulars or DPNs - I guess I need to try all three to figure out what works best for me!

  • @jonij794
    @jonij794 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Congrats on learning to knit socks. They are addictive! I recommend trying dpns. They are a bit fiddly in the first round but I find them helpful in giving my hands a bit of a rest as I switch from one needle to the next. For me the 9” circulars have too small an area to grip and cause hand discomfort but you may experience them differently. After all, your hands are a few decades younger than mine. 😊 also earthtones girl has some lovely tutorials on sock knitting. Have fun turning the heel. I’ve always thought it magical. Back to my stitching -ocean deep by Carolyn manning. Thanks for another video and sharing your work.

    Your cross stitch projects are great and I love watching them grow. I started knitting socks with double pointed needles and was quite comfortable with it. The I decided I wanted to try the 9" circulars and really like them. One heel technique I tried had a lot of stitches on the needle once the increasing was done and were so crowded on the circular so I went to put them on the double pointed needles - I felt like I had 14 thumbs!!! That's when I taught myself the magic loop until the number of stitches went back to manageable and put the sock back on the 9" circulars!

I was wondering your thoughts on the lap stand vs. the floor stand sold through Evertotes, especially if I have space for a floor stand. I have been thinking about ordering one and curious which you think is more useable/practical. I definitely would need the q snap attachment. I cannot speak as much to the floor stand only because I haven't used it, but I believe Jody - Trixie Tricycle here on Flosstube - has a review specifically of the floor stand, so you may find that helpful. I think the benefit to the floor stand is you may have a little more flexibility when it comes to height of the stand, and it may be able to accommodate more types of seating. For example I often sit cross-legged on the couch and I can not do that when using the lap stand. I hope this is helpful!

      Hi there! I definitely don't think it's necessary to 2-hand stitch on it if you don't want to. Even when I'm stitching with one hand on the frame, it's a good way to give your other arm a break from holding the q-snap or hoop! If you're going to stitch with one hand, I'd recommend positioning the stitching area you're working on closer to the left or the right based on your dominant hand, just so that side of the frame is closer to you. ☺
