    Great video. I have 72 El Camino when purchased had no keys. So I purchased an AC Delco ignition cylinder. I removed the steering wheel and other parts down to where you can press on the cylinder release to remove the old cylinder. That went fine, but the trouble started when I tried to install the new cylinder. It appears the new cylinder is not going into the column enough for it to engage the release. Key in or key out no difference. Have not been able to get any results from any video or any articles. Do you have any suggestions.

    I have a 75 Malibu, I’m trying to get a column from a 76 cutlass out of a junkyard and I don’t have a key. I need to turn the wheel to be able to have easier access to one of the bolts at the coupler by the steering box. Can I move the wheel by taking the lock cylinder out, or should I buy a cheap cylinder and install it so I can turn the ignition and move the wheel? Or is it easy to mess with the mechanism after removing the cylinder so I can turn the wheel??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Nice video also 😂🙏

    72impala. I have a no start ,no crank situation , I’ve changed the starter ,old was good !
    I’ve changed both battery cables ,both were 50 years old and green all over . Now I’ve changed the ignition switch ….. turn the key the dash lights light come on , then go out when key turned to start . Headlights are bright ,dome light too . Everything seems normal but when key in START position ……nothing. No click or anything .
    Shut it off one day in garage and next day nothing. been working on it almost a month now ! New starter can be jumped from battery over to S terminal and it cranks .

      I had the same everything. I was so pissed at myself for not being able to solve this problem.
      Weeks of fighting with it, off and on, still nothing. So I walked away.
      I went back to Upstate NY to work on my mothers house and I went and talked to my old high school buddies who I used to race these cars with.
      Both told me that I have a ground issue.
      I painted the block red when I rebuilt the engine.
      The ground cable is bolted to the thermostat housing. So I scrapped off the paint and super cleaned it.
      It started. Let me know

      @davidlis6709  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure because I am not familiar with Pontiac and I can not remember what happened after 1972. (General Motors changed things)
      I had the same problem with this Chevelle. The problem was the ground.
      The ground cable from battery to negative contact going to the motor was not grounding.
      The cable on both sides was color green with corrosion and not making a connection. I cut back the cable by 2 inches on both sides and reconnected and it started.
      Nothing wrong with starter.
      Let me know what happened.

    • @davidlis6709
      @davidlis6709  ปีที่แล้ว

      What else could it be.
      When you pull out the keys, are the dash lights still on?
      Do you pull the coil wire to stop the engine?
      When you put the key in, does the dash lights come on?
      And then when you start does the key come back one slot so the starter stops?

    • @davidlis6709
      @davidlis6709  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No - if I remember correctly your ignition switch is on the dash and does not have a steering wheel lock.
      Do your head lights come on? battery
      Check the connection on the negative cable, it may not have a good ground
      May need to cur back 1 inch on both battery cables and put on new battery connectors, the cable could be green with corrosion.

    • @gsbe561

      The screws that hold the switch in place on the column can be loosened and the switch adjusted up or down the steering column. You may have the switch adjusted too far up the column. When you turn the key, the rod activates the starter in the on position because the switch is up too far. Try loosening the screws and sliding the switch down a little.

    Here i am experiencing on my 1970 chevelle. When i turn the key to run the engine nothing works. Only the first click is the gen light . Then i believe the oil light comes on the 2nd click.
    I took a test light to the 3 terminals on the fuse box #1 "Bat" /#2 "acc" & #3 "ign" all 3 terminals are dead with out electricity. I also took the plugs out of the ignition switch and the red wire is HOt.
    I dont get it. The only thing i am thinking is the column shifter is in a wrong spot.? I dont have the column shift lever attached just like in this video. I put a jumper wire in the plug that goes to the nutral safety switch so .. i don't think the position of the gear selector on the column makes a difference

      Do you think the switch moved on the steering column

    • @erik9685
      @erik9685 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just took it off to verify the "locked" position on the switch. The key was in the lock position but the switch was in the 1st postion not the 2nd position. I saw your video in detail but neglected to make sure the switch was in the 1st click on lock. For some reason i thought the switch would move to where the rod was position when i put the 2 small screws. I guess thats why the holes are slotted on the switch???
      Anyhow i will know if that was it. when i replace the negative battery cable tomarrow. (Long story on that... i needed a cable on my daily driver) thank you for responding

      Sanity check: Unbolt the new switch and install the old one.
      Look at video 2:40 because it shows how the switch works.
      With the old switch hanging down not connected to steering column put it in the on position and see if you have power to your after market parts.
