Very true. He was a product of his times. When times were potentially tough and you had to make it on your own - No safety nets. Produced character, and not infrequently, characters *with* character. Rodney, exceptional man, broke his own mold.

@@mr.wizard2974 I love both comedians and they're totally different. Carlin had a hit record at the start of his career called "AM./FM". Rodney ia AM - old school, and George is FM - new ideas. I don't know who I would rank as number three. Rodney is the quintessential nightclub comedian. Carlin is a 'thinking person's comedian'. He's a philosopher who uses comedy. Both are missed by their many fans.
It's strange that what I like best about Carlin is his philosophy of life right before he died. He said he was too old to really care about the future of the Earth and people. He said he didn't "have a stake in the game anymore" That freed him. I, too, am at the age where I have turned my outrage to a low setting. I no longer see it as my job to "save the world." I can relax. (Well, I try). The world will just have to carry on without my sage advice and actions. Yes, it will be hard, but if I got outraged at every crazy thing that Trump does or says... lol.
Btw, is your screen name based on the fifties TV show with George Herbert? I loved to watch him perform experiments and then explain what happened. Usually, I didn't understand the explanation. I'm an engineer and that bothers me.
As Rodney: That was a rough week, I tell ya, when Rodney left. I mean, I'm ok now, but that was a doozy. The man got no respect; no respect at all!. Why, last week i went into a store to buy a Dangerfield record. There was no clerk! There was no store! The world had changed! It was Amazon, I tell ya. Now I gotta send an email just to buy deodorant! No respect at all.

That's a bit introspective, maybe you should focus on the living more? It's a bit of an obsession don't you think. I mean I'm not knocking it, I'd go see a deceased star's grave too, but preferably only on a sunny day and only once in a lifetime! I'd say this is "normal", and fanaticism with a deceased celebrity can be indicative of a condition, you know. It means something about yourself. It might be worth seeing a counsellor to see if they reveal anything you didn't know about yourself, in the interests of self-improvement. Never the less, it's interesting to hear of your devotion to the late great, sensitive, warm and charming, Rodney Dangerfield. May God bless him, and you. 🎉

His timing is amazing. I've seen other comedians try to do Rodney's act (usually impersonating him), and they're ALWAYS terrible because they just don't have Rodney's timing.

Hahaha! That's great! Took my man into the city to see him at DANGERFIELD'S in the city. In the 80's. The 'New Yorker' magazine said he'd be there. Jim was CRAZY about him. Rodney wasn't there (we realized 3 hours later). I really felt bad. I wrote to him, (a funny letter w/the New Yorker article.) Said 'we didn't get no respect'!
A couple weeks later, I received a letter back from his secretary. Enclosed were 2 tickets, dinner ,& drinks on the house, & he was there! They sat us front & center. He pointed at Jim, & had him come onto the stage. He said what do you do? Jim said he was a golf instructor-semi-pro (at a very prestigious club). After a couple of jokes about golf, Rodney asked him to give him a lesson- right on stage! Jim was pretty lit, & gave him a fine lesson. Where the club points after your swing, is where the ball is going to go. They tried a few puts (Rodney was FUNNY), & then Jim taught him how to hold his club correctly. He said 'youre grip is off - that's the problem.' Rodney pulled out a couple hundred & handed it to Jim
He said 'thanks buddy! Nobody taught me that.' It was a great night!
