Back in the day, all hosts were in broadcasting. Letterman was the last one. Since Leno they've all been comedians. He was the rare comedian who could also listen to a guest. Almost all others are trash.

All established comedians today learned from him so, we're good. On the other hand, he had such a specific niche and style. You really had to be as miserable and fucked up as him to be able to do it and honestly I wouldn't wish his life on no one.

End of an Orang Utan. Well anyways they both start with vowels. Orang utan in Indonesian means man of the forest. And i know Rodney loved trees. The tree of Respect was one of his favorites. How to identify such a tree ??? It had $50 dollar bills as leaves.

Julio Santos You are right and Rickles is the last one of that era of real comedians who don't have to say FU in every other word to be funny. I'm glad I'm old enough to have seen them when they did their original appearances on TV. Also I remember some of the Dean Martin roasts from the early 70,s, I was a kid but I remember my parents laughing there assess off, every now and then I go watch them on TH-cam and crack up, they destroyed each other without swearing and it's still funny as hell.

We didn't have political correctness BS and everyone got along with each other. Kudos also to Doris Day, for after all...Generally, when Carol Wayne was in a room she got all the men's attention, but Doris found the answer to that dilemma...She no doubt blind other drivers in traffic with those high beams on her way home (LOL) Carol Wayne ? The woman was so smoking hot that she could grill a cheese sandwich from across a room...Tragic how she passed so young.

Johnny Carson had his own Sport Coat line. He was wearing one of his coats tonight. He made millions of dollars from his sport coats every year. One day he canceled his line, the reason, he had to pose for pictures for two or three days for that years new sport coats. He hated that part, so he just canceled it.

There's a real art to stand-up comedy. It's not easy. But, Rodney was an artist and always delivered. Back in 1968 or 1969, I was in the Steel Pier theater in Atlantic City waiting for the main act, the Temptations to come on. The warm up act was a comedian. The guy came out and told some of the worst jokes ever. I felt sorry for him. The audience was silent. But, that was the set-up. After a few minutes he said, "this isn't working, I'll be right back." So, he came back on stage with a dummy and was a brilliant ventriloquist. I laughed until my stomach ached. Never forgot it. Great comedy brightens our day. Delivery is what it's all about. And, Rodney could deliver with the very best.

On Friday nights I’d have to go to bed by 11:00. I’d listen to Johnny and his guests from my bedroom, as my parents watched. I’d have my door open, somehow it was magical and exciting. God I miss those nights.

    • @jusayenso8186

Me and my brother would do the same thing! We would try and "sneak up" as we called it by trying to creep along the floor unseen by our parents, to get from our bedroom to the dining room with a view of the tv! I've heard similar comments before. No, Johnny's show couldn't have been that great to a couple pre-teens. I'm sure it remains a special memory because I now realize I never even worried about either of them dying. Life was easy back then. Yep, I was so lucky...unlike many other kids childhood memories.

A member of the crew on the pumper I was assigned on the local FD reminded me of Rodney D. He wasn't trying to imitate, he was just a quirky, funny guy. Had some fantastical, far out views on some subjects that rubbed the more restrained tightas..s the wrong way. I just figured yeah whatever to each his own. Overall the guy was a trip and interesting to work with. He was originally from NYC. His dad was on FD there but joined PD here and rose to Asst. Head Cheese and the Interim Big Dog until it was sorted out. He didn't talk about it. Found out years later. Maybe that's why he was a little irritating to some, after all Mob. Ala.aint the big apple. Anyway, he damn sure shared some DNA with Mr. D. Even kinda looked like him. He's gone now. RIP Brohican.
