A lot of the fandom has pointed this out, but Mabel may have trusted Stan because he said “please” and from the boss Mabel episode we learn he has trouble saying the word
I honestly love that they’re both sets of twins, cause being a twin often runs in families and is super common to skip a generation, so from grandparents/ great uncle to grandchild is really common in twin having families! It’s actually weirder to have twins without some other presence of twins in the bloodline! Some people called them both being twins unrealistic once and I laughed as a family member of three sets of twins on my dads side LOL
Total jaw dropper! Had the same response myself People had to wait FIVE months for the next episode! So glad I didn’t suffer from that ordeal. You’re not gonna believe who voices Stan’s brother!
I was out of the country when the next episode premiered and had to pirate it off of terrible hotel wifi. It loaded about 5 seconds of episode after 15 seconds of waiting. I spent like 3 hours trying to watch it. Good times lol
When you think about it, the entire series is actually all about the relationships between siblings, and especially between twins. Just wait until you see the next episode...
This was it, a peak fandom moment right here. There had been SO much buildup to this, especially since the gap between season 1 and season 2 was kinda long. There is also an INSANE amount of subtle foreshadowing to Stan being a twin. I am by no means willing or qualified to list them all, so instead I'll simply make you aware of my favorite one: Stan gets almost irrationally happy in season 1 when Mabel makes him a wax replica, ALMOST LIKE HE'S REUNITING WITH A BELOVED LONG LOST TWIN!
Episode three, Mabel made a wax figure of Stan. He yelled and fell back at the sight of a figure with his face standing before him, and wound up bringing it around the house with him, talking to it, making jokes with it. When it was "killed," he was completely distraught and held a funeral for it. It was all played for jokes at the time, but it all feels a lot less funny in retrospect...
Your gobsmacked reactions at that reveal are the reason I love this channel. "Eat your heart out, Steven Moffat" indeed! Man, Gravity Falls is a great show.
There were a few clues that hinted to this but apparently it was too cliche so people wrote off that theory. The hints I've found were him casually removing the glasses and then looking at for a moment during that static carpet episode. The other one was the imagery of the swings but one's broken in stan's mind
There were some other moments too. When skipping through different time periods and we wind up at what would become the Mystery Shack in the winter we briefly see what looks like a young Stan peeking though the door. Look again closely and you'll see it's actually his brother. They'd gone back before 1982.
There's also the episode with the wax figures, in which Stan is traumatized by the 'assassination' of wax figure Stan, which was played for laughs at the time, but with this information it's clear he was reliving the grief of losing his brother again, to a degree.
@11:50 Hopefully this isn't a spoiler, but in the "Lost Legends" graphic novel, when Pacifica sees Stan's brother for the first time and thinks it's Stan, she asks "Hey, why is Stan suddenly hot now?" 😁
My wife was so upset over the scene where they find the box with the newspaper clippings that she wanted to stop watching the episode for a while. She didn't like seeing Dipper and Mabel upset like that. This is just a silly show when you start it, and before you realize it all of these characters (heck the whole town) means a lot to you. It's been a long time since an original show that didn't have previously established characters made me care so much for everyone on the show
So this of one of those twists that had subtle foreshadowing going back as far as summerween (if you know what you're looking for) if not further which I think goes to show the brilliance of Alex Hirsch and his team
@@galonski64 maybe the biggest one I remember personally was noticing Stan's license plate in summerween (I think) and reading "Stanley-Mobile" thinking huh that's odd his name is Stanford. And then forgot lol
If you're willing to stretch a bit within the first 5min of the first ep you can see a glove with six fingers in the shack. In ep2 there's the stan'o war. In ep3 it's stan's attachment to his wax figure hinting at him losing his twin brother.
It was such an insane time when this episode first aired because it was the main theory the fandom had. Also "The author of the journals....my brother" became a big meme.😫🙏
"Eat your heart out, Moffat!" Ooh, Moffat burn XD. Seriously though, this is up there as far as twists go. Even the people who subscribed to the twin theory were shocked it ended up paying off.
Martha: Yeah, and what is he to you? Like a colleague or...? The Doctor: He was a friend, at first... Martha: I thought you were going to say he was your secret brother or something. The Doctor: You've been watching too much TV.
The reason why the protagonist of this episode, the old grandpa, will throw the nuclear radiation barrel is actually because the old grandfather will do so if he wants to rescue his brother who is stuck in the gap of time and space.
Now wait 5 months before watching the next one like we all had to 😂 Also, the series does not let up from this point on. It's has maybe 2 episodes that aren't "filler" but are less plot based and more character development based. Besides that, it's all a single storyline that builds off each episode
Think back to the wax figure episode. I thought he was just a narcissist with his wax figure. Then after this episode I realized he missed his twin brother.
I've been binging this playlist all night, and I'm loving it! I try to tell people why they should watch this show, but I can't get it across to them. You have to watch it to understand, dammit!
Fun fact! Rick and the Author have met before. In the teaser trailer for S4 of Rick and Morty we see the memory of a robot Morty and in that memory we see Rick and the author eating Ice cream.
4:43 so their parents live in California, so until the parents could come pick them up, they’d be stuck with child services, which would be better than sitting in a holding cell waiting at least most the day until they got there😪
THIRTY YEARS AND NOW HE'S BACK, THE MYSTERY IN THE MYSTERY SHACK You guys are so fun to watch! :D Everybody waits for THIS EPISODE and your reactions did not disappoint. Truly, so many people have said that this is one of the best episodes of a series -- not just animated series, but any series -- they've ever seen. The tension! The stakes! The *emotional* stakes! It's *so* tightly written (how much plot and tension they pack into like 21 minutes is nuts). But for me, definitely the thing about the ep is not just the answer to a long-standing mystery ("what's in the basement?" then "what does that thing DO? what is Stan doing?" and "when will Dipper and Mabel find out? what will they do when they find out?) -- those are all things that *happen*. What makes this episode great is the emotional tension. Do we believe Stan, or don't we? (Like in that whole being arrested sequence -- he seems SO sincere telling the kids that "this time, I'm innocent!" But he 100% *is not*.) Do we believe *IN* Stan, or don't we? Is Stan actually who he says he is? If not, then what else does that bring into question? You guys were totally right -- it's often overlooked because of Mabel's huge moment, but Soos going from "do anything for Stan so that Stan will love me" to *fighting Stan* to protect the kids is just... wow. And then, yeah... Mabel's moment is tension all the way and so so beautiful at the end. (One note, not a spoiler: I think you guys have not been paying much attention to the codes and ciphers? And that's fair! Not everyone does, or will; the show put all kinds of little easter eggs in, but they're for amusement, they're not plot important, because the show knew that it could not count on everyone in the audience paying attention. But the fandom DID pay a LOT of attention. From the very first ep, there was a code on the end-image of the credits, where it flashes Bill and the Cipher Wheel. That code says, "Stan is not what he seems." So for the people in the fandom who knew that, this episode's very title was a hint. And it primed the fandom to question, "WHAT about Stan is not what he seems?" So when that whole sequence happens where you see all the aliases and "Stan Pines Dead" and all, it especially threw the audience, because, if the show planted that warning in the *very first episode*, then who knows? Maybe Stan really *isn't* Stan after all! Well, you'll just have to wait for more answers in the next ep. :)
This was an incredible reaction!!! So glad you included all the good bits! Also the fanbase had a prediction wayyy back in early season 1 that Stan had a secret Brother and was the Author. Crazy times in 2015
I love when shows foreshadow stuff, bc it's more fun to rewatch it. If your still interested when it's over, it's definitely worth rewatching and looking at the hints. I knew Stan cared, and you can tell throughout the show. And after seeing the next episode, it can explain a lot about Stan and some things he's said and his actions. Good luck though for next episode :)
Before watching: oh boy Oh Boy OHBOY! THIS IS GONNA BE GOOD! After watching: Fantastic! you two do NOT dissapoint! loved it and am gonna stay hiped for the next episode. (for which we had to wait FIVE whole Monts for!)

Accordingly, their presence in the family makes it clear that there may well be other twins, probably in older generations, too, which gives us a hint of the plot twist. It's so cool)
And so it begins! Would you have thought that this dhow would escalate like it has? From the first episodes to this? This is why Gravity Falls is considered a masterpiece. The beauty of writing a story like this, where there is a predetermined conclusion is that every character, even supposed side characters or comedy characters are able to be fully fleshed out and have back stories and their own personalities! Now we have a steady ramp up to the finale! Hold on to your hats! It's going to be a wild ride! Haha

And you thought this show was great before this. This episode makes you just sit there trying to get all the new questions you have in order in your mind, trying to understand what is happening. The rest of the series is equally my favorite and my least favorite part of the show. Interesting perspective. I do often wonder what the show would've been like if Stan's brother had entered the narrative sooner, or if we'd had more time with him - he's a major player in the back half of this season, and even though we've sort of gotten to know him through his writing, it's weird to think we really only get eight episodes with one of the most important characters in the series.
@@kadesmith8598 I could be wrong, but from what I know, he pitched it as a 3 season show. Unfortunately, he underestimated the amount of work, and became overwhelmed. He wanted to end the show, but Disney wanted all three seasons. They eventually compromised with the two seasons we have

@@kadesmith8598 I could be wrong, but from what I know, he pitched it as a 3 season show. Unfortunately, he underestimated the amount of work, and became overwhelmed. He wanted to end the show, but Disney wanted all three seasons. They eventually compromised with the two seasons we have
It's a big one
can anyone remind me as to why she does not like moffat? XD
The next episode will leave you the same as this stuck on wtf
So now your gonna wait 3 months too see the next episode like we did, right? :)
