Multi-Router : Making an Auxiliary Table Plate

  • I've long wanted to make an auxiliary plate for the Multi-Router table.
    Many possibilities open up once the reference holes are mapped. With the aid of a CNC or Shaper Origin reference plates can be easily made.
    You can download the ,dxf - .svg and TurboCad drawings from my website for free. This is an "on your own" offering. I am not able to offer support for any problems that might arise from working with the drawings.

    I like your TH-cam videos as they are much more informative than the IG's. Thank you.

      the finished bed is coming soon! That's a lot of blanket chests! The 1st blanket chest I made was for one of my Granddaughters.

    Darrel thanks for the video the Multi Router is still on my list to pick up. Looks like the Slider is right at home at this point. :)

      You're Welcome, Michael. Yes the slider is right at home. When I walk into the shop though I still get a thrill just looking at it and realizing its mine!

      @@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker Forgot to mention kudos on your cutting technique of finish cutting on the saw and router bearing bit vs. trying to cut completely with the CNC.

    Nice video Darrell. I am looking at both the Pantorouter and the Multi-router as possible additions. I expect that Pantorouter will come out with their air clamps in the next several months which will be a big plus for me. Since I am space limited, if you only had room for one which would you purchase? I love seeing the slider in use as well. Also interested in your CNC vertical work holding setup. Steve

      Hi Steve, If I were to have just one it would be the MultiRouter. The PantoRouter has its advantages but for my purposes the MR is more versatile and precise.
      My Vertical CNC set up has limited capabilities. I think if I were to dive into it there is potential for serious improvements. For me its faster to employ the MR for the things I had intended to do with it. You might check out the vertical CNC surface that @JayBates has - it looks well thought out and more functional than mine.

      @@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker Thanks Darrell. I have seen Jay's and Frank Howarth versions and decided I didn't want to go that route which is why I ended up with the Shaper and workstation for vertical work.
      BTW - I tried the Shaper for the prototyping G&G drawer fingerjoints and it was doable but fiddly. I used the plunge roundover for the protruding fingers but got a lot of burning. It may be me or it could be the bit. Steve

    • @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
      @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      @ExtremeWoodworker did you use Shaper's onboard finger joint feature? I haven't tried it yet . In the future I hope they update it so you can vary the size of the individual fingers - instead of them all being the same .
      My experience with CNC and situations like finger joints - where you have an inside and outside mating contour - the call out for the bit diameter is hyper critical. If its off just a little the joint doesn't fit properly.

    • @extremewoodworker
      @extremewoodworker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker I experienced exactly what you describe. I did not use the on-board feature as it does not allow variable spaced fingers. I used the Fusion 360 plug-in and struggled with the offsets to get a good fit. Unfortunately, SO does not permit offsets on individual edges and applies it around the entire shape so that is something that has to be incorporated into the design SVG. I eventually got it right but it was painful. That is one of the reasons I am considering the Multirouter or Pantorouter. Steve

    Hi Darrell. Where can I get the pneumatic hold downs that you have on your multirouter and table saw?

    • @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
      @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff, The pneumatic hold-downs for the MulitRouter can be purchased at Woodpeckers - www.woodpeck.com/pc-1-pneumatic-clamps.html.
      I got the air clamps for my slider in a trade several years ago. As far as I can tell those particular ones are no longer made. Felder offers ones that are nicer than mine - www.felder-group.com/en-us/shop/pneumatic-clamps~sc123933

    Darrell,
    Will you be doing a video series on this custom bed frame in the Greene and Greene style? I’ve been waiting for someone to do a comprehensive video on this, it would be a unique project for TH-cam, thanx

    Hi Darrell. To slot the other end of your piece, will you flip over your registration template and mount on the left side of the table, or do you have your slot dead center so you can flip your work over and keep the registration template where it is. Nice template ideas. Thanks.

    • @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
      @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      My intention is to position the mortise (slot) dead center and flip the stock. In this case I recently mounted a different router in my MR. I will be running some tests 1st to make sure there isn't excessive runout with the bit or router.

    • @TallEvaGuy
      @TallEvaGuy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker Thanks for the reply. Generally I haven't been overly concerned with dead centered mortises, but I've had to maintain a reference side because of it. Since I got my digital scale, there is no reason that I shouldn't use it's precision and go for dead center.
      I would be interested in a video, maybe even a short video of your findings and reasons for choosing a different router for your MR. Maybe what you like about the new router? I use Bosch and pretty well love it. I tried a Milwaukee and didn't like it so well, but maybe it was just something up with the router motor.

    • @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker
      @DarrellPeartFurnitureMaker  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TallEvaGuy I might consider a video on routers for the MR.
      I have used both Bosch and Porter Cable routers. Both did well.
      Most of my routers are now Porter Cables.
      The current router is not new - but new to the MR. It's a Porter Cable model 890. The base on this model is longer ( has more contact surface) which I hope gives me more consistency. It also has better micro-adjustment for depth of cut.
      I am not familiar with the current line of Bosch routers so I cannot comment on a comparison.
