Thanks for this, it reminds me how much energy and time is lost trying to manage, control, recover, negotiate etc etc. I just used to spend most of my time thinking about the next drink battling cravings but my perspective now is it’s literally the last thing I want to do and the worst thing I could possibly do. It’s so much better on the other side. It’s not easy per say but it’s real life and the good bits aren’t filtered out with the numbness of the booze and I can build on resilience and successes step by step a day at the time. I looked forward to a weekly meeting with a motley crew and I wish you all the best in your journey keep at it. It sounds like you have gained time and experience sober which is not lost. Find what works build your own system and best of luck out there mate! I still have my own work to do to keep safe. We are all a work in progress!

I hope you find happiness outside the bottle. If you find happiness beyond alcohol, that is the solution.

Don't beat yourself up man. I partied my arse off for 25yrs and just became tired of the same old same old. I had the same old excuses and the same happiness sabatague routine. I enjoyed being in the party but the sleepless nights and the hangovers became too much. A few drinks would give me days of crap sleep and 2-3 days feeling rancid. One day I said enough and just stopped. Its rough at first but then I started buzzing from feeling alive again. You can do it

If you fix the problems in your life you won't need something to suppress it

@swf4841 Definitely not easy but to beat addiction you need to fix the reasons you're using it

Just stop stressing about totally quitting. Instead try and moderate it and use it as a reward and limit it to a couple of glasses and not a whole bottle. The pattern of trying to go cold turkey and then relapsing is all too common and does not work unless you forcefully put yourself in a controlled environment where you are not in control of freely acquiring it.
