Cliff I haven't heard you giggle and laugh like that flying in a while! I'm glad you had fun with it my friend! Great flyers those Habus. The frisbie launch was awesome! I'm curious what you're gonna build...
Thanks Adam, it was a blast, much more than I thought it would be, I'll have a bit more fun with the haboo before I retire it, but I've already started cutting the bits out for the new model which I'll announce at a later date 😁👍🎅
You could actually learn to fly on it Bob, she's very docile at low speed, only problem is she doesn't slow down much on landing but you can't have everything 👍
Fantastic! That launching technique is really interesting. Surprising what can fly with enough thrust. Slow glides were also very elegant. Looking forward to you next EDF project!
Great first edf. Sweet flyer. Real flyers do it without AS3X! And you're right about wanting to open the throttle. I have an FMS Avanti running on 6s and for 3 mins I'm Chuck Yeager! 😈
Cliff, outstanding. That first landing was perfect.... Right at your feet... Well done.. Impressive discus launch too... Those Habu's are great flyers. Very gentle and forgiving...
Hi Raymond, the Habu is a great first jet for someone with a little experience of rc flying, the flight controller caused me grief but once removed a decent video came forth 😁👍
Nice flying Cliff, you got the wing launches down pretty well, I can't hardly throw over handed anymore, I broke my right shoulder in a motorcycle accident and I throw like a girl with my left lol so thats a good idea for me to try as well, Very fun watching you fly a edf jet for the first time, Great job Cliff 👍✌️ Happy holidays 🎄
That flew wonderfully!! I tend to hand launch jets slightly differently. I launch it under arm, holding it by the fuselage above the leading edge of the wings if that makes any sense it gets it in the air quick on the plane remain straight. Next project a mini Yoyo jet?😂 no but seriously, I’m glad you’ve joined the dark side 😁
Hi Collin, thanks for your continued support, that's very kind, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I've just ordered two 4000mah 4s batteries so I should get double the flying time. My Channel Members cover my expenses (as long as I don't go crazy lol), have a great Christmas and New Year, cheers.
I had a Habu took it to the field once flew great but it wasn't for me. The EDF units need the air moving over them before they kick in. Love the launch technique 😊
Fancy a game of arrows Cliff? I was wondering if a dolly would help? I have seen the guys down the field throw these under arm like a discus. Not flown a RTF jet myself yet. A smoke canister would be interesting 🧐 ❤
Salutations Cliff! As you have discovered, the EDF jets can be tricky to hand launch, because the air which provides lift has to be established first for the plane to fly, which is very different from planes with a propeller, which washes air over the wings directly as soon as you engage the throttle. There are several ways that lift can be achieved, two of which were demonstrated in this video, two other methods can also be employed to launch an EDF jet, one is to take off from a runway which requires landing gear, and the other method is to use a catapult. Your best launches in this video were have someone else launch the plane for you and this is very helpful if you have a good friend that is capable of giving the plane a good and proper toss, however, you can not always launch a plane like this, particularly if you are alone. I think you could build a proper catapult with some surgical tubing and a few odds and ends. Another option is to install landing gear and take off from a runway. It definitely looks like you had great fun flying this EDF jet! Happy flying! Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨🛩
Hi Mike, you're quite right several ways to launch an EDF, I do like the idea of a bungee launch and, yes, I could make a simple ramp. l had great fun with this little jet but it days are numbered because I plan on pulling it apart to build a balsa one, thanks for your lovely comment, cheers
Hi Mike, it worked pretty well after I worked out the best way for me, there was a cheap Mig 15 I didn't buy at a local swap meet which I regretted, the older scale jets look really cool 🤔👍
Hi Cliff, I'm currently building an English electric lightning EDF by English electric models. I'm enjoying building it and I think it may be one for you to consider.
Hi Cliff , I'm building the 70mm version. I've seen the real thing at Bruntingthorpe with after burners going and I've repaired a Mick Reeves lightning for a friend so you can guess I'm rather fond of them
Man that stuff is too fast for me .... although , I have been toying with designing a ducted fan WW1 biplane with an intake like a Saber . Id'e like to do a slow flyer like that .
Hi DM, this particular model will fly very slowly but it's fun to open the throttle occasionally. Your project sounds intriguing, you should do it, cheers 😁👍
I've decided jet's are great 😁👍
I don't think I've seen a discus-launch EDF before. Well done Cliff.
Hi Bruce, I saw the technique from a chap on TH-cam and thought it worth a go, I'm glad I did, it was a scream, cheers

Great to see Cliff. Well done !
Cheers Dom, where will it go from here? 😁👍
Nice flying, Cliff. You took to it like the proverbial duck to water!
Thanks Gina, just like flying my Fokker Triplane only quicker 😁👍
It flies well, even quite slowly. Nice
You could actually learn to fly on it Bob, she's very docile at low speed, only problem is she doesn't slow down much on landing but you can't have everything 👍
Cliff fantastic flying and like your left hand toss. Flying EDFs is fun. Zoom zoom zoom. Jeff in LA USA
Thanks Jeff, you'll have to give it a go, it's not as hard as it might look!
Fantastic! That launching technique is really interesting. Surprising what can fly with enough thrust. Slow glides were also very elegant. Looking forward to you next EDF project!
Hi Andrew thanks, it was a ball playing with the Habu, I'm not sure if I would be risking the discus launch with a new model mind you, cheers
Nice job with the Habu. You seem to have the extremes covered quite well: ( Yoyo slow - to - Habu fast ) Glad your first outing went so well!
Thanks Roger, it's good to have a little variety, now I need a Yoyo fast and a Habu slow! Cheers
great maiden...looks like fun ! 👍👍
Thanks JCB, it was a blast for sure, cheers
Great first edf. Sweet flyer. Real flyers do it without AS3X! And you're right about wanting to open the throttle. I have an FMS Avanti running on 6s and for 3 mins I'm Chuck Yeager! 😈
Zoom zoom as Jeff would say, cheers Chuck!

It was a jammy bounce Will and I had a great morning to boot 🙂👍
Looks like you're having too much fun Cliff - be careful.
I promise Tim, this is a serious hobby lol
Nice one cliff just enjoy it for what it is a fun little speed ship crack on
Thanks Barry, it's surprising how stable, yet manoeuvable, she is, cheers
You need a throttle/elevator mix programed to a switch that you turn off once in the air,I use it on all my hand launchers.
Good idea Jim, cheers
Great flying, Cliff! Looks like fun. Maybe I should try jets next season .. like the Habu. You planning of building a jet in balsa?
Hi Raymond, the Habu is a great first jet for someone with a little experience of rc flying, the flight controller caused me grief but once removed a decent video came forth 😁👍

Hi Oliver, I'll have to give that technique a go, Darth out!
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes haha ok 😁

Hi Mark, it's not really what I would choose but she'll make a good donor for a more scale British jet, cheers
You did good
Thanks Paul 👍
Fancy a game of arrows Cliff?
I was wondering if a dolly would help?
I have seen the guys down the field throw these under arm like a discus.
Not flown a RTF jet myself yet.
A smoke canister would be interesting 🧐 ❤
Hi Nick, a dolly would probably work ok, especially with a bungee attached but then you wouldn't need a dolly! Yes, to your last comment, cheers
Salutations Cliff!

Maybe not the best way to launch if you have built it! 😅
Edf models are lovely to fly. I love my MIG 15 especially 😊
Hi Mike, it worked pretty well after I worked out the best way for me, there was a cheap Mig 15 I didn't buy at a local swap meet which I regretted, the older scale jets look really cool 🤔👍
Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année!!
Bravo Guy, toi aussi 👍
Hi Cliff, I'm currently building an English electric lightning EDF by English electric models. I'm enjoying building it and I think it may be one for you to consider.
Hi Kevin, are you buliding the 50mm or 70mm?, they look like very well designed kits, cheers
Hi Cliff , I'm building the 70mm version. I've seen the real thing at Bruntingthorpe with after burners going and I've repaired a Mick Reeves lightning for a friend so you can guess I'm rather fond of them

Nice , l like 👌😎☕️
Thanks Fred, a long way from model rail-roading! cheers
Great flights Cliff, you did look at home with the EDF, was some nice launches, if it works it works. 🫡
Thanks Chris, I haven't had so much fun since the last time I had so much fun lol, cheers
