Yeah, that was played on the radio a lot back then. Probably the last single of theirs that I've heard lol, but that's because the rock stations near me have died or changed.
"hypocrisy of relgiion" never understate the importance of them growing up in a conservative family They were in fact HEAVILY influenced by christianity in high school and still to this day are deeply religious, though spiritually, not via the horrid catholic church They didnt want to to be pigeonholed into that one genre Sadly they were robbed by the "wesinteinepstein" labels and made very little money

I met them once, when they were driving through my small town when i worked at safeway in highschool. Thier bus had "We're Lost" on the front of thw bus like where they were going. I met thw stage manager, tour manager, 2 members and had the dopest hangout ever. Cliffs notes, i watched their little grill while the manager went to the hotel to get the band t p meet, and we drank red wine and coke, talked about music, and at one point i yanked a magazine insert from metal edge mag and the two signed it. Then we sang one the members girlfriend a song from the eagles into a cell phone. This would be in either 02 or o3
Girlfriend drug me to see this unknown band in a fairly small Denver venue around 2005 and I was blown away at how great they were and how amazing their presence was. It was and remains one of the best (of many many) concerts I've seen.
100% AGREE! I saw them live for the first time in Iowa (in 2024) and it was everything I could have wanted and more than I expected! Chevelle is the best live band I have *ever* seen!
About a year and a half ago on the way back from Chicago to Texas saw these guys on our flight. After the flight they were hanging out a bit by the gate so I thanked them for making awesome music and was gonna be on my way. They struck up an entire conversation with us and were asking lots of questions and even remembered the venue in our city! Really nice dudes.
When I was younger, I went to a lot of their shows around the chicago area. It got to the point Pete started to recognize me moshing in the crowd and even announced "our crazy guy is here again" lmao. Gave me his guitar pick once and I caught one of Sam's drumsticks.
Please, Pete....Release that new album. I know it will kick ass. You guys have never made a bad album. Best band in your genre. Never sold out for commercial success. I listen to Chevelle every single day. Rock on....
Chevelle is my favourite band since Wonder What's Next. After getting exhausted with the exposure Linkin Park had during the early 2000s, Chevelle came around and they became a breath of fresh air. Since then, I never missed out on a new Chevelle album. Also, knowing that they are gearheads and naming the band after my favourite muscle car is so cool.

Wow. Chevelle is one of my favorite bands but I actually knew very little about them. So awesome to hear they're still going strong and I hope to catch them live one day.
I’ve only recently discovered Chevelle. Last year, I heard First to Eleven cover The Red and decided to check out the original, then the album, and I loved it. I listened to La Gargola only days ago. Still got a lot to listen to but glad I discovered them, and had to watch this video when I came across it.
I was fortunate enough to watch Chevelle before they were anything but a bar band many years ago. I lived in the same county as them. I still remember seeing them the first time in a bar that didn’t hold more than 200 people and you could instantly tell that one day they would be signed. Just a whole Nother level above everyone else playing the bar scene.
Watched them live and they opened their set with grab thy hand.. i will never forget the energy in that venue when they played. Amazing band. Great dudes.
I was lucky enough to meet Pete and Joe, when he was in the band in 2002 and 2004. They stopped in to do an interview at 102.1 The Edge in Toronto and I met them in 2002, when they opened for Stone Sour and in 2004, when they were doing promo for This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In). When I met them in 2004, they remembered me from when I had met them in 2002 and Pete actually let me know the last 3 songs on This Type Of Thinking, as they weren't listed on the CD, when someone read the song titles out to me. Also, I had mentioned the Tool comparison to Pete in 2002 and he didn't seem to mind all that much. I even talked about the guitar tunings from album to album and I wonder if that may have made me stand out to them, besides the fact that I am blind and kinda small.
I would think being compared to Tool would be flattering. Even if you're not a tool fan, if you've ever heard their music, you have to admit each member is a matter on their craft.
Band histories are always interesting. Chevelle's music either speaks to you or it doesn't. I was into every album and listened to them frequently until maybe seven years ago, and I think that was just due to age and life. I have a Chevelle station on Pandora that I chiefly utilize for intense 20-minute workouts. 😬
Chevelle is fantastic. One of the best live shows Ive ever been to. No pyro,no huge stage no frills, just killed it from start to finish. Hell,Pete played the show in a hoodie. Great vocalist,IMO.
Thank you so much for covering one of my longest awaited suggestions of this channel. Very Underrated Band of the 2000s and when I heard their 2002 Album Wonder What's Next, I was Pumped! Their Discography is really amazing! Even Point No. 1 has bangers like MIA. Once Again, Thank you so much for covering the history of my favourite band.
Chevelle is one of the bands that you go to their live shows and it sounds just like the studio albums. Hard to believe that all this great music comes from just 3 guys. Look forward to hearing their next record and live shows,
I saw them open for breaking Benjamin in 2019. I’d never heard of them beforehand and by the time bb came on stage. I was more impressed with Chevelle. Unbelievable live band 25 years into their career too
Don't get me wrong, I love Breaking Benjamin and think they are underrated at as well, but no way in the world Chevelle should be opening for them. It should be the other way around. I agree about the longevity of Chevelle , such solid songs and consistency throughtout the years. I've had a Chevelle album in my car playing on repeat for years.
Its crazy how some of my favorite albums come from some of the hardest times in some of these bands careers. I love this type of thinking can do us in so much, it’s really what got me into chevelle. Same with deftone’s saturday night wrists.
I remember this guy in high school telling me Chevelle was nothing more than a Tool clone and I was like "Bro, WTF are you talking about?! Are you serious?" As a music nerd that plays multiple instruments, I was so offended for them, especially considering Chevelle's unique style and sound. Chevelle is nothing like Tool, musically, stylistically, or lyrically. In fact, Chevelle completely stood out compared to other rock bands at that time, as mentioned in the video.
I've never understood the Chevelle and Tool comparisons. Two different entities entirely. I think Tool has their place, but they just depress me. I'll take Chevelle.
Through a series of unexpected events I found myself at a Chevelle show in the early 2000s. To say that I wasn't stoked to be there would be an understatement. Much to my surprise they had their shit together in the best way. They played super, flawlessly tight with zero slop throughout the entire show. More than anything what stood out was that the live vocals were dead on with their studio recordings. Often times at a live show you'll hear parts of a song where it's clear that the singer really had to struggle to nail that perfect take on the album, but that wasn't the case with these guys. Whatever sound you hear on their record, they've got that on tap, fully automatic all day long. That was 20 years ago and I've had nothing but respect for them ever since.
This has been my fav band since I first heard Point #1 when it came out. I love how they always keep to their core sound even when they try new stuff. They are so good. So glad I got to see them live a few years ago.
I might be alone here, but I'd LOVE to hear about Fair to Midland. I just discovered them a couple years ago and they were already split. They put out 2 albums but we're unbelievably amazing!
Roswell's Spell is one of my favorite songs. Chevelle has been consistently good since Point #1. NIRATIAS (2021, I think) is one of their best albums and (i'd imagine, at least) wholly underrated. Great live band as well. Not much bad to say about these guys. They rock.
I worked at a Culver’s in Grayslake IL back in the early 2000’s before these guys blew up. They would come in to hang band posters for gigs they were playing. One of them had a white supercharged camero which was badass!! Super humble guys back then and probably still are. Was really stoked to hear them on the radio two years later!!
I loved this band, borrowed all their albums from my brother. As soon as I turned 18 my brother took me to see them live. It was at some club with a stage. Very close up and personal. I was amazed they weren't doing huge concerts with how successful they were at the time. To this day, still the best concert I've ever been to. I was so absorbed into the band and the music, felt like it was a personal show just for me
This is so cool. I loved hearing about their origins and Pete's musical influences. I love the historical approach to the video. I was a tad late to the Chevelle scene, but heard a song named "The Clincher" on the radio maybe about 2006 or 2007 and thought " Wow, these guys are amazing." I went out and tried to listen to everything they produced. I consider Chevelle one of my favorite bands of all time right next to Foo Fighters or Queen or Soundgarden or Def Leppard. I've bought ever single album and try to find their hidden songs out there, too. Anyhow, love the deep dive into this band. Thanks!
Seen them live 3 times. Not gonna lie, they don’t have much stage presence but I just love how they make what sounds to me like laidback hard rock, if that makes sense lol. It’s soothing but heavy at the same time. Pete always has simple yet effective riffs. His vocal melody on Letter From A Thief is out of this world. But that’s just one example. I also like his lyrics, as they can be very mysterious which leaves it wide open for you to decide what you want the song to be about.
I saw them in California here at the Fresno Fair. It was 2012 around during the "Hats Off to the Bull" tour and Pete had a great quote for a fan in the front row: "That's a bad ass beard, bro." Right before jamming to a tune.
@@joeomalley2835 Haha 🤣 I seen them during the Sci-fi Crimes tour and that was probably my favorite concert from them. Sick Puppies opened (remember them?) and they had some insane energy. Seen them again around 2016 and then again last fall. All solid concerts but the Sci-fi album was my favorite so that tour takes the cake.
One of the most consistent bands of the last 20 or so years. I've seen them about a half dozen times, and I really enjoy their no nonsense approach to shows.
i remember my friend first showed me chevelle in high school(class of 05) i didn’t like them at first. Then i caught them live at Ozzfest. Hearing and seeing them perform live was awesome and I quickly changed my attitude when they played “the red” omg I was blown! I still put them on today.❣️
Excellent research! Their name sounds like Leffler, the o is silent. The NIRATIAS album they put out in 2021 is really great. I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks for posting this video!
I saw them in April 2010 in Springfield MA opening for 3 Days Grace. They were so amazing. My child was born 1/08/11 so do the math. That was a great night.😊
Chevelle is one of my favorite bands. I remember seeing the video for "Mia" on MTv's Flying Indie segment and it just grabbed me. I still have my original copy of Point #1 from high school.
I saw these guys live at a club in Jacksonville Florida . They tore it up , one of the best bands live I have seen . Just 3 guys on a stage playing music that punches you straight on the face . Highly recommend them if you like their music .
Dude so this was a sleeper band I'd sat on for years with the only album I'd listened to was "this type of thinking." Then one day I heard "safer waters" and was blown away, I had to hear more. Awesome video dude 👍
I have been a HUGE fan of Chevelle right from the get go! I remember watching the video for "The Red" and thinking to myself - who's this, and they ROCK! I have never seen them live and would absolutely love to see them someday. I keep checking in on their website from time to time to see if they have any new music. I wish they could recapture that sound from Wonde What's New & This Type of Thinking (Could do us In) Wonder What's Next has been my GO TO pump me up music in the gym... love it!!
Thanks for this!! I saw Chevelle a couple years ago as one of the bands playing ahead of Breaking Ben up here in Scranton PA(near where Ben is from) and wish I had left after Chevelle. They were absolutely amazing and outplayed & outclassed BB by miles. I have an amazing silhouette picture of Pete that could be on a live album cover it’s so cool. I only have one of their t shirts after hearing how little they’ve made(zero) off of albums I’ll go ahead to their site and order another and check out where they’re playing this summer. If anywhere near NE Pennsylvania my wife will go. Great band. Very unique
They've played at Summerfest in Milwaukee a bunch of times, and always put on a great show. It's a rock band that attracts a fair share of ladies. Music with purpose. Can't go wrong seeing Chevelle live.
Great video. Chevelle is one of my all time favorite bands. I never miss a show when they come to my town and have learned all the bass lines. Not all that difficult but fun to play. I really wish Dean would have stayed with the band. The guy is amazing
Girlfriend drug me to see this unknown band in a fairly small Denver venue around 2005 and I was blown away at how great they were and how amazing their presence was. It was and remains one of the best (of many many) concerts I've seen.
I randomly got fed these guys in my feed a few years back. Now I listen to them all the time. Awesome sounding band. I love em. They remind me of the 90s club bar scene. Would fit right in with Filter or White Zombie. (Oh wow they brought a Filter member in cool.)
This is one of my favorite bands of all time. I've seen them in concert a couple times, and met them at one. Cool guys! Their discography from "Wonder What's Next" to "La Gargola" has banger after banger on the albums. I can listen to all of those albums from front to back, and with very few exceptions, never skip a song. They're just that good. I wish the reactor community would get on board and listen to some to help spread the word about the band, because they're quite talented, and know how to craft a very catchy, and groovy song.
This type of thinking could do us in I still listen to cover to cover no skips badass album one of my all time favorites and one of the first albums I ever owned.
One of my favorite. I always felt like they this blue collar, down to earth band, they did their own thing regardless if they become a household name. True underdog
I saw them at Birch Hill in Old Bridge, NJ when I was picking up tickets for an upcoming show my band was playing. Mike from Concerts East let me stay to watch them. They were really tight.
Back in early 2000 - I was a hardcore fan of these dudes. I went to see them at the HOB in Orlando. It was 30 seconds to Mars and taproot with chevelle being the headliner. Best show ever.
It's cool how we both saw Alice in Chains for the first time the same year! Around that time, they've had their fair share of interesting openers, and it's not surprising that Chevelle happened to be one of them. I first got into Chevelle back in 2004 when their song "Vitamin R (Leading Us Along)" got big, and hearing that Steve Albini took a chance on them when they debuted made me appreciate their craft more. Glad they're still out there!
I can't believe there was no mention of "I get it" from the Vena Sera album, one of their best sings IMO.
God i hate it so much, when i want to write song, but it ends up being sing
Yeah, that was played on the radio a lot back then. Probably the last single of theirs that I've heard lol, but that's because the rock stations near me have died or changed.
One of their best songs from one of their best albums 👍🔥
Still jamming to "The Fad" and "Straight Jacket Fashion" more than a decade and a half later. Seriously, Vena Sera is so damn underrated.
Well Enough Alone has such a unique heavy energy to it and I don't think I've found a single person that didn't like it
Chevelle is one of my favorite bands. Love sooo many of their songs!!

They were in fact HEAVILY influenced by christianity in high school and still to this day are deeply religious, though spiritually, not via the horrid catholic church
They didnt want to to be pigeonholed into that one genre
Sadly they were robbed by the "wesinteinepstein" labels and made very little money
Chevelle is such a solid band overall. Thank you for this deep dive into them.

Underrated band. I crank them at work often.
To magnify pain, is point number one.
Yeah they jammed. I got a free demo when I was buying one of system of a downs albums. I was a fan after that
Highly underrated!!!
played all day every day in Chicago area radio stations. over played even. probably cuz they are from there

Saw them last night in Asheville, NC. Totally agree with you!
They have the best sound engineering I've ever heard live. Almost as if you're hearing the album

I was amazed they weren't doing huge concerts with how successful they were at the time. To this day, still the best concert I've ever been to. I was so absorbed into the band and the music, felt like it was a personal show just for me
I absolutely fucking LOVE Chevelle! Have since 2001. They are THEE most Underrated rock band, of ALL TIME!!!
I meet them back in 2015 , Sam was very mello and genuinely stoked to talk to the fans! Criminally underrated band
Your videos keep getting better and better! Fantastic work!
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Excellent research! Their name sounds like Leffler, the o is silent. The NIRATIAS album they put out in 2021 is really great. I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks for posting this video!
Amazing and beautiful song. Did you ever attend any of their concert?
Interesting! Going by the spelling I always thought it was "L-off-ler".
Aww man the clincher, I still rock out to that
One of my fave bands. Got to see them in 2010 and they killed it. Looking forward to another album!
I saw them in April 2010 in Springfield MA opening for 3 Days Grace. They were so amazing. My child was born 1/08/11 so do the math. That was a great night.😊
Every album is a banger. Easily in my top three bands of all time. So glad they're chugging along after so long. Excellent video, my friend!
I saw Chevelle back in 2000. The Mustangs and Camaros opened for them...great show.
Chevelle is one of my favorite bands. I remember seeing the video for "Mia" on MTv's Flying Indie segment and it just grabbed me. I still have my original copy of Point #1 from high school.
Grew up in the same area and have always loved this band…
I saw these guys live at a club in Jacksonville Florida . They tore it up , one of the best bands live I have seen . Just 3 guys on a stage playing music that punches you straight on the face . Highly recommend them if you like their music .
I remember seeing them open up for Local H a few months before “The Red” started getting played on radio stations.
Dude so this was a sleeper band I'd sat on for years with the only album I'd listened to was "this type of thinking." Then one day I heard "safer waters" and was blown away, I had to hear more. Awesome video dude 👍
Chevelle is a real rock band. The lyrics are on a different level
Chevelle is one of the few bands from that era of rock that I genuinely like they really stood out amongst the trash that was the whole nu-metal era
I agree
By far best band I’ve seen live, it was last year in Springfield IL
I have been a HUGE fan of Chevelle right from the get go! I remember watching the video for "The Red" and thinking to myself - who's this, and they ROCK!
I have never seen them live and would absolutely love to see them someday. I keep checking in on their website from time to time to see if they have any new music.
I wish they could recapture that sound from Wonde What's New & This Type of Thinking (Could do us In)
Wonder What's Next has been my GO TO pump me up music in the gym... love it!!
Same here listen to them in the gym
Chevelle is my favorite band just because theyre so fun musically. They inspire me forever and always!!!!
Great band. Very unique
Just saw them again 3 months ago. They are one of my favorite live bands to watch.
Seldom discussed but kickass version of Depeche Mode's "It's No Good"..... last track on "Wonder What's Next"... Strong finish to a great album! 🤘🏻
Thanks!
This channel the best of it's kind... thank you for all the hard work and research you put in to it.
Thank you for this deep dive. My favorite band. Seeing them for my 11th time since 2002 tomorrow.!
You’re welcome!
Girlfriend drug me to see this unknown band in a fairly small Denver venue around 2005 and I was blown away at how great they were and how amazing their presence was. It was and remains one of the best (of many many) concerts I've seen.
First time I heard The Clincher I was sold! Learned it on guitar and still jam it till this day!
I randomly got fed these guys in my feed a few years back. Now I listen to them all the time. Awesome sounding band. I love em. They remind me of the 90s club bar scene. Would fit right in with Filter or White Zombie. (Oh wow they brought a Filter member in cool.)
Seen them MANY times. One of the best bands in the last decade.😊
The best band saw them in concert at the woodlands awesomeness please release the new album thank you for your music
Dean was in a band as a drummer called Liftpoint, we use to play with them loads back in the day
I would have never thought all that took place I love this band and their music
This type of thinking could do us in I still listen to cover to cover no skips badass album one of my all time favorites and one of the first albums I ever owned.
Solid band!!!! They definitely have their own sound and that has carried them through the years.
Have yet to put out a dud. Niratias album is amazing. Keep it goin boys!
Sci-fi Crimes was their masterpiece
Agree.
I seen Chevelle at a smaller venue in NY years ago and it was the best concert I've ever been to.
Noone:
Me, lookig at the thumbnail: damn, did'nt knew that Johnny Knoxville has a band.
One of my favorite. I always felt like they this blue collar, down to earth band, they did their own thing regardless if they become a household name. True underdog
My #1 favourite band of all time!!! 🤘🤘🎵🎶
Chevelle never disappoints.
You should cover THE NIXONS from Texas they weren’t huge but I would be interested.
Sister is a great song from them
Great band
Vena Sera might be one of the best albums of this century
I saw them at Birch Hill in Old Bridge, NJ when I was picking up tickets for an upcoming show my band was playing. Mike from Concerts East let me stay to watch them. They were really tight.
Love Chevelle.. saw them with Thirty Seconds to Mars back in ‘05..
great show.
Yeah I had awesome seats for that show. Side stage section 134 or 136 from what I recall. Alice put on an amazing show!
Dang I didn’t know they had a new album ready to go. Very excited. The last one felt like a breath of fresh air.
Thank you for the post! 🤘🏻✌🏼😊
you're welcome
@@rnrtruestories 🤘🏻
This was excellently put together. Thanks for doing this!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Saw them at the NORVA. It was awesome.
I did too! Small world
Saw them in Montclair NJ in early August. They rocked, sold out, and bass player was great
