Yes, there's no clutter and a sense of very little hustle and bustle going on. The people there are calming doing things. Very tranquil.
Thank you so much for your analysis of this artwork. ❤

I dont know if calm is the word. But it reminds me of those cloudy or rainy days when you are at home and just exist. Not a particular memory of course but just a feeling. Or maybe the feeling is of waking up too early and staying awake doing something: maybe thinking, reading, while trying to make as little noise as possible to not wake up others.

Yeah! That would also be one of the experiences you get from these paintings

around 7:40, I get what you mean but realism isn't about how real the things in the painting look, its about the reality of the situation. There are some very "impressionistic" realist paintings out there (Mr Hammershoi included) but that doesn't make the paintings less realistic as an artstyle/category. On the other hand, "Impressionistic qualities" talk about the use of light in a painting, which I agree Hammershoi puts in his paintings.
Another thing altogether would be hyperrealism, which does aim to make stuff as real-looking as possible. But realism isn't that. Yes, there are realist painter who made stuff look really close to reality, but that isnt the crux of the matter of realism.

Very well put together and you are absolutely right 😁 I used “realism” to indicate the “realness” of the painting with all the lighting effects and textures.
