"Do you want to watch the anime?" That's pretty much what everyone asks themselves after experiencing Nami's arc. Welcome to the fold! I hope to see you two explore the rest of the story too! xD
Arlong is a nasty villain people love to hate... but he's honestly not that bad. Or perhaps he is quite bad, but he's a product of the wider world, and there's some real scum out there. He has a bottom line of sorts, at least. But it won't be until the fifth season that you'll get a bit more of an idea, and probably the seventh or eighth season until you will the deep understanding of Arlong.
But you were both very right in identifying some real life parallels. One Piece's author might write a story aimed at kids and young adults, but he never treats them like idiots. There are shocking things that happen in the One Piece world that you wouldn't expect based on its happy exterior and lighthearted comedic moments.

      @Aviertje ปีที่แล้ว +3

Obviously it is very rough, and they'll have to cut a lot of material, but in terms of the content offered, I think they can make it work given how much they did for the short arcs in the first season that they basically covered in two episodes each.

Luffy has always called himself the Captain, but to me, him placing his hat on Nami's head and telling her 'Of course I will' is the exact moment he goes from being a boy who wants to be a Captain to a true Captain, which I think is beautifully reflected by the fact that immediately afterwards, when he tells his crew "Let's go" there is no delay and no hesitation. They all immediately recognize that "this is my Captain, and he's said it's time to fight" and respond. Watching the Live Action One Piece helped me understand why people enjoyed the show, but the writing in that one scene explained to me why this story is so beloved to have gone on for as long as it has.

One Piece is a masterclass of high highs and low lows. It's amazing how much you can feel from the series. With over 1100 (1103 at this time) chapters, the series has had time to plan little seeds of plot lines and harvest our emotions when it wants to. Most series peak pretty early. While not every arc tops the last, One Piece does manage to consistently find a way to overcome the highs previous sagas and leave you feeling you've not seen the best yet.
Oda even recently said that as a child he always hated how series had bad endings. That for his series, the ending is where the real story begins.

I started watching the anime 3 days ago and watched all 45 episodes the live version did in the first season. I do recommend that you watch the anime. It goes even more deeper and the battles are even more cool and the villains are even nastier and darker. And Nami's story, if you think you cried with the live version, it will make you weep in the anime.

When you said that One Piece has everything you don't know how right you are because after 1100 chapters it really does has everything but Oda still yet surprises us ^^
Also yes One piece is a very emotional show on the all range of emotion to pure joy to pure despair. The colorfull exterior only makes for more impacts into the darker moment.

24:31 Someone described Arlong and his crew as 'vengeance turns into blind hatred'.
The fishmen (in and outside of Arlong's crew) do have a legitimate to be resentful towards humans, some are able to move past it, while others hold onto it - and then there are those who are just psychopathic or sadistic.

    • @Phanthief95
      @Phanthief95 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is actually true for Arlong, but with him, it’s also him becoming like those he hates.
The creation of Arlong Park & his belief in fishman supremacy mirrors those of specific humans in the world of One Piece.

When Luffy puts his hat "his treasure" on Nami it is portraying that she is also a treasure to him. So well written that Luffy didn't even have to know the circumstances, he just needed to hear he say "help me".

    • @corbanbausch9049

My favorite thing about Luffy is how context matters not to him. All he needs to know is “my friend is in danger and needs my help”. What the person did to get in that situation does not matter. Their past does not matter. What matters is that they need Luffy, and Luffy needs them.

Sanji is honestly my favorite character of the crew. He has a perceptive nature that the others don't. He's able to read people really well. And Arlong is a perfect example of the fact that if you keep a group of people down and oppress them and mistreat them long enough, some of them will rise up and become monsters.

The scenes may be shortened compared to the anime, but still gives the same gut-wrenching emotions to us viewers. Glad you love it. AND I REALLY DO HOPE YOU'LL WATCH THE ANIME! So fun side note: The reason that one marine had whiskers and ears on his hat is to go with his name, Captain Nezumi, to fully signify his role as the marine who is selling out Nami's island to Arlong. Nezumi is Japanese for rat, so he's literally Captain Rat with his little ears and rat whiskers.
Looking forward to seeing if you guys start the anime and if it hits the same or different from the live action; your reactions so far have been so great.

The "Help Me" is one of, if not the most, iconic, signature scenes of One Piece. Everyone's perception about what One Piece is changes after that scene, no matter whether it's the manga, the anime, or the live action show. The latter especially treated the scene with the reverence it deserved, as no matter what, that was the scene they couldn't mess up. And they did it justice.

❤ OK on the last episode. I said that was my favorite reaction to that episode. I am now going to say you guys are just my favorite reactors to the whole season. I love how you guys just get it and also.
React so genuinely. With your heart on your sleeves. It's pretty much the way I was when I first.
Watched the animay so going in to this episode myself. Just that opening scene with Nami And her sister with their mom in the field. I don't know why but just seeing that serene scene made me choke up.
And my niece who didn't know the story looked at me and said are you crying Why are you crying?
    I just told her.
I don't kno you'll see. The actors for this live action were perfect. Love them all. I really want to meet them and thank them for bringing my favorite characters to life the way they scream that Naomi. Did in this episode was heart-wrenching and then the luffy Help me sing.
    So flipping, perfect.
And now I get to see all these new people react. That wouldn't give the anime a chance before before. And I just absolutely love how it always makes everybody say. I want to watch the anamazing amazing. Can't wait to watch the last video with you guys. Also I should point out love the way you edit your videos as well.
I'll be I'll be watching more of your reaction videos to other things for sure.❤❤😂❤.?.

Something that comes through a bit clearer in the Live Action, weirdly, is how Luffy taught Nami to ask for help.
Remember the Mihawk incident. "I won't stand in the way of anyone's dream." Zoro wanted a 1v1 with the strongest swordsman. Luffy respected that and didn't interfere even when things got dire.
After he speech about him not knowing anything, I think she realizes how ride or die this dude is, not just for her but for everyone. And all she needs to do is give him permission.
The lesson is that asking for help isn't an imposition. It's a gift.

26:09 after 1100 chapters of manga and episodes of anime, how well I know this laugh and the thought “Damn it got so much, its silly. Again.”
“I thought it was a fun show.” It’s the funniest, in big part because of episodes like this. Its the contrast between pure joy and tragedy that makes it work.
The creator of the manga Eiichiro Oda said that the reason he decided to agree to adaptation now is because he felt that this is last moment in time to bring his story to new audiences. He was writing this story 25 years, practically his entire adult life. The size of it is already a massive entry barrier for new readers. And seeing how many people this show convinces to actually try it is most critical success for the adaptation. It is the best time to be a One Piece fan, welcome!

The Help Me hook reels another one in, welcome aboard! Emily her actress is a big One Piece fan, she is all caught up with the series, this is her dream role so she extra knew the pressure to nail that scene . That said the Japanese voice actress for the anime does a haunting performance, portraying Nami's fears, anger and trauma all boiling over at once. Leading to why many refer to that moment as the hook of One Piece.
