Thanks for the review and the hard work in putting it together. I have had these pencils for years now and enjoy them. Yes, they do look fabulous out on the desk. I use mine mostly with ink drawings. They are a joy. Your reviews are appreciated and always looked forward to. Thanks again.

I bought the exact same set a few years ago and all of the softer leads keep breaking. I can't even attempt to sharpen the 8B. I don't know if I got the defective one or they changed them for the better, since the wood in my pencils doesn't look near as nice as it does in yours.

Harry (I think that's your name - pls correct me if I'm wrong) you area really making great reviews. I could recognize all you recognized and documented properties of the products you're reviewing! I tried: 12 Pack Polychromos and 36 Pack Koh-I-Noor and everything what you've said I could directly recognize. I bought the Polychromos befor I've found you and the Koh-I-Noor actually b/c I felt like your review is authentic and I related to it. To be honest I don't regret it! Pls know - at least from my side - you're done a really good job. It is not a matter from myself to be polite or something but as objectiv I can be on that I can fully 100% approve your documentation accordingly to my experiences and I LOVE Koh-I-Noor Polycolors! Since I went through your videos yesterday and got a bit from your story and how important it is for you to be on a good quality level I felt like to tell you what I've experienced. If it wouldn't be that way (meant the approval) I'd writ you anyway just because if we communicate we can be better :). But I want you to know that I really like your reviews and especially b/c you're truthfully trying to be objective and at least that matters. I also really like your website and got your light-fastness-charts which are very helpfull for me b/c I'm a carrier changer myself (luckily not b/c of an accident nor other inncident) and want to go PRO on art. And I love workin' with coloured pencils. So I consider everything on that by the view of professional work. And even on that consideration your reviews are on a decent quality!
I'd like to suggest you another coloured pencil which is often used in schools (at least in the german speaking area). It is the Jolly Supersticks (Classic) 36 pack. Those are school pencils and the pricing isn't actually that low (about 31€ for a 36 pack for NON artist pencils!). It would be great if you can do research (lightfastness - I didn't found anything) and usability. Since I'm just started in Jan 2020 (you can see my art as time laps (speed drawings) on my channel btw. And started what I've had which was the Jolly Supersticks.
    My Current Projects:
-> I just completed a DIN A3 Paint/Drawing of Helms Deep (of The Lord of the Rings) scene which is actually an environment/landscape type paint. (used Jolly and cheap drawing paper)
-> currently on a game concept art style of Anno 1800 with the 12 pack Polychromos to test them myself.
-> planned: doing an Anno 1404 Artwork with my 36 pack Koh-I-Noor before considering getting the 144 pack.
Ad the Koh-I-Noor: You've said they are work plenty on every (non cheap) drawing paper but would you recommend me one specific? I'm currently on the 15 sheet pack of Stonehenge (250gsm) white for coloured pencils. And just as it is 100% cotton it is literally another world to work compared to ordinary cheap drawing paper.
Thanks for your answers in advice and I wish you well :) - since I'm disabled myself .. I know the preassure of everday limits. Happy Drawing :D

My 3B is softer and blacker than my 4B which is of course a significant flaw. Exactly the same set as yours.

Very nice review! I have a koh i noor lead clutch pencil (it's a mechanical pencil for thick lead) for 5.6mm lead. I bought a pack of lead that comes with 2 charcoal lead (soft and hard), 2b, 4b, 6b and 8b, and a "black graphite drawing pencil" . Does anyone know what a "black graphite drawing pencil" is? It does not smudge like a 6b or 8b, it is not as shiny either. It reminds me of a black coloring pencil, but it's harder than a normal coloring pencil. It's almost as black as the hard charcoal, but it is smooth like a colored pencil, similar to an oil sanguine pencil. Any ideas what this is and what it is used for?

Hi Marina I think the black pencil is either Carbon based or a Fusain Charcoal. I have two reviews that will show you both these pencils. One is the Staedtler Lumograph Graphite Pencils bit.ly/34wlxc5 and the other is the Conté Sketch Pencils set. bit.ly/2S7DGF5 just click on the links I’ve added to those reviews or if you can’t click on them copy and paste them into your browser. I hope this helps

Hello, does anyone know if these are suitable for a career in architecture?

Ordinary wood Graphite pencils will work well in architecture, however, if this is a field you are serious about getting into, you should look at pencils like this amzn.to/3dLacqV. I done work experience in an Architects Office for a week when at school and loved it, but I wasn’t smart enough to actually be an Architect but these types of pencils would be incredibly helpful.
