Koh-i-Noor is a gold standard for drawing pencils in Europe. It is a bit softer than many American pencils, I found. And yes, it's Czech Republic now

It is actually officially Czechia now.

I use Kooh-I-Noor on Darrel's recommendation for almost a year now, very happy with it, they're less than 50 cents a piece.

Thank you for this very helpful review! However, Czechoslovakia hasn't existed for over 30 years. The Czech Republic is its own country now and it would be proper to refer to it as such.

If you do another pencil update, I so hope you include Prismacolor Turquoise in the mix. They were my favorite for so many years, but I will trust your judgement on whether they've fixed their problems. (They seem to have fixed the problems they were having with their colored pencils, so that's encouraging.)

There are no Blick Studio pencils in Europe.
    I recently bought Stadler Mars.

The last pencils I bought at a local store in the 1500 and 1900 series had problems with the quality, they became disgusting, of lead crumble, with extraneous impregnations that scratched the paper, the wood cracked when sharpening.
At the same time, I gladly use the Koh-I-Noor pencils bought 10 years ago no complaints, especially to very soft 5B-9B :)
I don’t know how good this series is, and I don’t want to find out - there is no more confidence in their qualities, I completely abandoned new the Koh-I-Noor, I do not regret it. :)

GIOCONDA pencils are great brand, they've been making them since 1790
almost as old as USA. They sell them everywhere not only in USA LMAO!!! Correction, these are fine arts pencils and they're expensive, its not your average No. 2 yellow pencil price. You were very fortunate to buy them cheap. These pencils are expensive. Individually, they cost like $2.50 USD plus tax. Gioconda red chalk pencil costs $3 USD, each, plus tax for sanguine drawings.
I use graphite 1 H, 1HB, 2B and anything above 2B I recommend charcoal. These pencils do not smear so easily. Second brand I recommend is Faber Pastel or Staedtler; for charcoal --General from USA.

Koh-i-Noor is persian for "mount of light" and its the name of a diamond

From HB to harder H's, the Koh-I-Noor are horribly scratchy to the point of being unusable. The 2B and softer aren't as bad, but they're nothing to write home about (or with). Staedtler Lumograph are miles smoother and more consistent in my experience.

I need to do an up to date Pencil Review, so that we can document the differences and similarities between the brands. Also things are constantly changing for one reason or another…, Darrel :)

If he had called it the Czech Republic, would that in any way have altered the subject matter of the video in any meaningful way? ( No, thought not? 😆)
