They make a huge deal about their "halving inflation" target... 3 points,
    1. It was always going to come down because it was a supply side problem and as those issues resolve on the global stage it would come down.
    2. Because it was being resolved on the global stage, Rishi actually did very little.
    3. Because he did not put a date on it, he could resolve it at any point.
    4. We are still ahead of the BoE targets
    5. It's a meaningless statistic anyway because it is a rate of change of costs. When the reality is we should be looking at average costs vs average income.
So however you look at it, the promise was meaningless.

Smoke and mirrors on the inflation target. It's not actually true that he's met his target. Also, meeting his 'target' had nothing to do with what he's done. ALSO, what about the other 4 targets....that never get a mention...???

How bizarre that we have politicans who are obviously capable and smart talking like this but when they step into government they loose all integrity and honesty? We need some sizevable reform that promotes honesty and subtly of thought.

I understand he was useless as chancellor. But he’s very likeable. And he’s not wrong when discussing the election being a year away. A lot can happen.

I know what you mean. He’s tainted by the mini budget fiasco but he does come across as intelligent and articulate, and to his credit he straight up answered the questions and didn’t keep changing the subject, as so many politicians do these days.

If Ministers spoke like this and were less scripted, I think we might have a better view of them or at least view them more humanely.

The day and age of tax cuts are over. The British economy has more debt than GDP in historical cost terms. In accounting language, it's no more a going concern.
Of course, economies are not corporations, where insolvency follows if debt obligations are not met, because the central bank can print money as much as required.
The consequences of excessive money printing and monetization of debt will lead to negative outcomes, in most cases.
    However, MMTers might disagree.
