One of my favorite planes. It was theoretically compatible with the Aim-7C since it has the same radar as the Demon, maybe we’ll see that added someday…
It never carried them so I doubt it. It did have bombs and bomb ccip though so that should defenetly be in the game.
Maybe we will get a tech tree F4D-1 late or something like that with some extra features because the Skyray is amazing and the fact that it's not tech tree even though they made over 400 of them is criminal tbh.
It’s also missing its drop tanks, which would help immensely given the poor max fuel load and the need to constantly use the afterburner.

Main problem with F4D is its guns working only half the time. For the plane with such a low ammo count (and wing mounted guns) having to spend additional time on each enemy is basically a death sentence. Also, Skyray can pretty much carry a 1v4, unless enemies are four mig-19s of course. Engine power is really great and since skyray is a delta wing it can just drop onto enemy planes much faster after stalling them out.
Absolutely love this plane and the retention isnt horrible if you counter input the turn often enough or if you fight a slower turning plane you can purposefully turn slower. Anythin up to 9.0 gets completely energy trapped by this thing and it turns fast enough to dodge almost anything. It has problems and shortcomings true but it definetely is very good after they made it not brake its wings as easily.
If you do have some extra time and motivation I'd love to see you revisit the "F11F-1 Tiger" one day.
I personally love the F11 and have flown it out more times than I'd like to admit.
I also cherish the F4D and fly it out from time to time when I feel like it. That thing sure is a beast in a downtier.
Finally, wings are not made out of cardboard!

One thing with this plane against subsonics is the climb rate, you can use the squirrel-running-up-a-tree strat
I remember winning a dogfight against a MiG-19 doing that spiral thing in the video except I full committed (despite the MiG-19 being able to maintain energy VERY well). Just stayed inside his turning circle for a minute or 2 until he made a mistake which allowed me to get the kill.
That’s the thing about this plane, it got the performance of a UFO, but the neglected 1996 Pontiac Sunfire equivalent of UFOs.
You can double your ammo essentially by using the switch primary weapons keybind. Only uses 2 of your 4 guns this way.
you double your fire time by sacrificing half your firing mass not double your ammo
@@daemonfifield1242 rate of fire is high enough that it is essentially double ammo. But tbf real shatter rn is a problem again. When that’s fixed it’ll be double ammo again essentially.

Nice timing ! I had give up spading that plane last year (Wasnt that much a jet player compared to nowadays), decided to complete last month, since im aiming to get to US top tier soonish and it's the highest br plane I had. Saw you had done a video last year, gave me PTSD, but yeah feels like they tweaked some stuff around to prevent wing rips without flaps out :P

The amount of killstealing we see on this video is insane but is what we get due to the bonus per kill system. Its like everyone is on a permanent event mindset rushing for kills.

@p_filippouz one of my friends was kind enough to buy me one of the premium packs on sale and I chose the TAF due to a lack of interest in the phantoms and the mirage
My main motivators for spading this have been its looks and the immense amounts of tomfoolery I commit in custom battles with it on infinite min fuel and in-air rearming

It has four guns with 65 rounds each and you can shoot them in pairs

I used to spade this thing while it has zero tolerance on any, let me repeat, on ANY negative G maneuver, else you would get prompt wing snap. If you want to put your nose a little bit down, you roll 180 deg, and pull, and roll back. You would get used to it but it's annoying as hell and still you would get wing snaps. I knew this could not be realistic, pilots would die like flies in a machine like this. But, gaijin being gaijin ...
Otherwise, it was a completely competent plane. Great thrust /weight and flying characteristics for BR, as far as I can remember.
The instructor is the problem. It doesnt snap its wings in sim, where the instructor is not present. And in sim, this plane is extremely scary to fight.
