  • An enjoyable ride for the novice off-road mountain biker. The video pays particular attention to the terrain to ensure potential riders can judge if it is suitable for their level of riding ability.
A wonderful, circular, e-mtb ride through Cartmel in the South of Cumbria. This is a lovely quiet region with some of the route being within the Lake District National Park. The route uses many bridleways and by-ways across very varied terrain from woodland to open grassland, fell land and of course the inevitable, rockier sections. To be fair, the only rocky section of this route is a short section on the bridleway between Low Brow Edge and Newby Bridge and this was minor and didn't pose any problems!
This ride is 21.5 miles long (but very easily shortened to around 15 miles) & roughly 65% off-road. A basic map showing the route is available at the end of the video.
This is a lovely route for those riders who don't fancy the more technical, high-level routes; the routes that are readily available in books, magazines, youtube etc.
I've put together this ride and several others (work in progress) as I've found a distinct lack of detailed information on rideable off-road routes for those of us with mountain e-bikes (hardtail or full suspension) who want to enjoy an easier, but fun, ride. I've spent considerable time walking bridleways to assess rideability as many are just not suitable for our needs or just overgrown!
The number of senior e-bike riders appears to be rapidly increasing and I'm hoping these routes will be useful to those visiting Cumbria and the Lake District and maybe even the local residents, like ourselves.

Hi Kate, we are really enjoying your videos. We are both the same as you two. Starting off with hardtail Treks and now moving up to full suspension Cubes, our trails are similar to yours but in the Yorkshire dales. We are looking forward to trying some of your routes out next time we are in the Lakes.
Thanks again for putting the time and effort into your videos. James and Caroline

Hi Kate, I was recommended your videos by a friend who thought myself and “the husband” would love your rides, and we do. I signed up to Komoot maps just so I could download some of your rides. Did you put this one on Komoot? Would love to do this but can’t find it. Senior riders on eMTBs who want to get out into fabulous country but without the too technical bits are a growing tribe. Your videos are so well pitched. Thanks for taking the time to share

Hi there, thank you so much for the lovely comments. Really appreciate it. We are having so much fun on these bikes and want others to as well. Apologies, I've just checked my Komoot site and realise that particular ride hadn't been opened up to everyone because the completed ride I did had a section not suitable for us novice riders and I had to re-plan and ride the new section the following day. I've opened up the re-planned route as per the video but it is available under my planned not the completed section (Cartmel and South of Cumbria). Hope this makes sense!

@@cumbriane-biketrails7944 Hi Kate. Thanks for taking the time to check this, I did find the ride following your reply. This ride is fairly similar to a route we had seen in a guide book, but we were unsure if parts of it may have been too challenging. Your comment answers that and I am sure your amended route will be just right for us. How lucky we are to have test pilots to blaze a trail 😊. Really appreciate it. Elaine
