Approximately 15 years ago I collected some seeds from a Northern Catalpa Tree growing in Kingston, Ontario. Today we have three Catalpa Trees growing on the farm that came from those seeds. Sadly, I have now learned that the parent tree that I collected the seeds from has now been destroyed. However, I feel very happy that I managed to preserve "offspring" from that tree that can now live on into the future.

A wonderful story! Glad you were able save the family lineage, of this lovely tree. Too bad, the restaurant and mother tree, did not survive.
So often, cityscapes do not evolve for the better. Your combined skills as a Naturalist and Visual Artist, are a huge benefit to enjoy, for us viewers. Happy Thanksgiving Monday. Pat

Beautiful trees and they can get pretty good size. I know of one in Ohio that is easily pushing 200 inches in circumference. Now that you mention it I think I need to run down to Ohio for some Catalpa beans.

I imagine in their most preferred locations they can get big. I’d like to see that one you mention. Must be very impressive. Have fun on the way to Ohio.

I may plant one in my yard along the back fence, I always liked them. There is one growing (SW Ohio) near a old pub I may plant some. I planted a bunch of paw paw over the last few years but , unfortunately due to the drought (and a pit bull attack keeping me from going in my back yard for fear of another mauling. ) I lost them. Hopefully the pit beast will be gone next years (renters next door) and I'll be able to garden again next year.

Yes they are beautiful trees. We don’t have paw paws here and I’m not sure they would survive here but maybe. Too bad about your back yard situation. Hopefully resolved soon.
