hey good video! do you think it would be a good idea if I have 3 shelves standing next to eachother to make the holes horizontally through all 3 shelves? so I can put a led strip through the holes connecting all 3 shelves?
you could. I don't see any reason why it would not work.

What a great video, I understand that these are Billy/Oxberg, did you have to leave room next to each bookcase so the doors open with out hitting each other? Thanks for the lighting tips cheers
This is exactly the type of lighting setup. Great video and explanation. It looks like there's three different types of cases? Are they all Billys? I can tell the far left of the 3 is a Billy with Oxberg doors. But what is the wider case adjacent to it and what type of bookcase and doors are the two to the right of the Billy/Oxberg if you don't mind me asking?
these are all the billy/oxberg. here is the link for you www.ikea.com/us/en/p/billy-oxberg-bookcase-black-brown-s79020482/ i just didnt use all the shelves in the two on the far right. the camera makes them look different.
Thanks for the video. Quick question, I have 3 Billy bookshelves with 8 shelves in each that all need lighting. Can I use everything you did, or do I need a different power supply or converter? Thanks.
you can use everything i did. youbwould just need to add power supplies to accommodate the extra wattage. i do not recall off hand what each strand of light uses. i know its mentioned on the amazon site. just multiple that by how many strands and you will be able to see how many power supplies you will need. you dont want to max out the supplies to prevent it from overheating and catching fire
if you buy the same model, I did which is the Wi-Fi 5 in 1 model. Then yes. They have 3 different types, and the other models restrict you on the type of lighting.
Hey! Can you tell me, without the lights, can you see anything from outside of the bookcase? I want to get the bookcase from Ikea for my video games and souvenirs, however without lights, I am not sure if it would be too dark to see anything. The glass doors I wanted seems are not available anymore, so the oxberg in black seem too dark. How does it look for you during the day with the led turned off?
Here is an imgur link of what it looks like with just a ceiling fan light at nighttime. Day light just makes it a nicer overall look as the light isn't as harsh. imgur.com/a/m96twQI
It looks like my phone is increasing the brightness in the picture. It's not that bright when looking at the comics. But i am able to read everything on them without any additional light.
This is great and exactly the type of wiring I was looking for!! I have some questions though. I'm trying a similar approach, but instead of using white LEDs, I'm using RGB. I have a 12v 5-meter strip that I will cut into 10 smaller strips and put them into 10 shelves, will any led lights become dimmer? I will run them in parallel, that's my only concern is that the LEDs will become dimmer.
depends on how much voltage each strip needs and the power supply you use. as long as the entire strip combined is less than your power strip max voltage, then it will be at full lighting. The led strip you buy should say how much wattage is needed per foot.

Will the controller allow dimming/color change with the LEDs that you used?

Great video! How are the COB lights holding up? I like how they have a smaller footprint compared to the LED strips you normally see.
They have been holding up great. The brightness is exactly what I wanted.
