Hello, thank you very much for the video. As I understood correctly, you should first attach the lightstrips to all the shelves, including the middle one which cannot be moved later, and to the top one, and only then assemble the Billy. Then you just have to drill the holes at the back and pull the cables through and connect them, right?
I'm not the guy from the video, but I have added DIY lights to three Billy bookcases so far... yes you should install the lights on the shelves prior to assembling the bookcase. I like to to assemble most of it, slide the backing board in and mark the drill hole locations. then drill flat surface. use masking tape to prevent damage and chipping from the drill. If you haven't decided which position the movable shelves will be in, then you may have to drill after fully assembling and adjusting the shelves.
@ okey thank you. I ordered my Billy and some lights from Ikea, let‘s see how it will look. I think I will drill the holes after I put the shelves in because I have to find the perfect distance between them cause I want to put Anime statues and some are 30cm high and other 50cm.
I couldn't find this answer online, so I hope you can answer it here. The TRÅDFRI says up to 10 devices can be connected to it, but that connector thing only has 9 ports, where or how does the 10th port come into play?
@@Noyma The TRÅDFRI can connect up to 10 devices, as in the drivers, not the individual light strips. That means you could *technically* connect up to 90 light bars. That being said, I have already run into de-sync issues with only two, so I would only advise attempting this if you are willing to do a lot of plugging in and unplugging to sync all of them.
@@leoalpha7 Oh sorry the IKEA naming scheme confusing. I meant the 30w power supply, I see only 9? connector holes, where on the power supply is the 10th hole for a 10th light bar? I planning to connect some more lights outside the bookcase, but the desync fixing doesn't sound fun.
@ Yes, you can connect 9 light strips to the TRÅDFRI 30W driver. The TRÅDFRI remote can pair to up to 10 drivers, meaning one remote can hypothetically control up to 90 light strips.
@@ytubebrowser7560 Entirely possible if you put them directly on the light strip itself. You won't get the same flush fit, but if it's something you are more comfortable with, or perhaps you don't want to deatructively modify the shelves, you could certainly try.
you skip the most important part after you drill the back of the shelf you dont show how you make the cable pass through that hole. shame cuz that's really the whole point
@@hnia0 I apologize for neglecting to show that, but it really is as simple as just shoving the end of the cable through the hole. Obviously, since one end is already attached to the light strip, you just stick the other end through the hole. The drill bit I use to drill the larger hole is large enough to fit the head of the cable.
Thanks for the video! I'm definitely going to do this for my Star Wars The Black Series Collection.
Great video! Thanks!

Amazing video, are they only warm white or also cool white?
The color temperature as labeled on the box is 2700K, so warm light.
Do you have any advice on installing the Oversidans on an already assembled Billy bookcase? In particular for the middle and top mountings?
@@kubrickman A strong arm.
Would Command Strips would work instead of drilling?

Check out the latest short on my channel, it shows you how to thread the cable through the hole.
