i literally wore a green bomber jacket almost ever single day in middle school and switched it out for purple university hoodie my freshman year of high school. i wore black leggings, white combat boots, and that hoodie to the point my mom had to hide it to stop me from wearing it.

yall need to remember that ashley is an adult. The clothes she invests in are probably going to fit her forever. If you're a teen with a really small budget who probably isn't going to graduate with half your wardrobe these are obviously not ideal pieces for you!! Just wait till you've stopped growing and your wardrobe will build up fast and you can buy expensive items
This 100%. I’m 24 and I’m in the process of investing into quality clothes. I’ve gotten rid of all of the Forever 21, H&M, Zara, etc in my closet and just shop at sustainable stores with good quality clothes or I buy from goodwill outlets and thrift stores. I started building a tiny little jewelry collection with real gold. It’s expensive but once you become an adult and start making more money, you’re able to spend more on items that you can invest in. When I was a broke college kid I would buy $6 tops from Shein or something and the threads would be loose upon opening the package and would fall apart in the washer. It’s cheaper and better for the environment to buy one good quality pair of $95 jeans that’ll last forever than buying a new pair of crappy $25 FashionNova jeans every 6 months. The difference in wearing the nicer clothes knowing they’ll last a long time vs how I felt in my cheap Forever 21 clothes is astonishing

People commenting about money on Ashley's videos seem to forget that she's talking about INVESTMENTS... clothes and shoes that are meant to last. Instead of buying cheaper things that you'll keep having to replace, this is actually more cost effective in the long run. Also there are companies like afterpay and klarna which divide the cost of your purchase out into installments (really helpful). Ashley also believes in buying clothes sustainably, which often times is more expensive than bigger brands that cost less. And of course you can always thrift! Everybody deserves to look stylish, at whatever price is good for them.

The cotton/spandex tip is seriously the most valuable clothing lesson I’ve learned in a long time. I always hated how my jeans seemed to get lumpy and frumpy after a few wears, but the 100% cotton ones really do hold your booty and keep their shape SO MUCH better!
Forgot to add: Agolde from Aritzia makes super cute 90’s style jeans. They are expensive, but luckily Everlane makes a very similar one for $60 that is 100% cotton! (That’s the one I own haha)

Edit: Hello! It’s me, two years later. I completely have a different opinion now than I did back then. The purpose of this video is to help OTHERS find clothes, so Ashley should be promoting brands that OTHERS can buy. It would be one things i’d these brands were particularly sustainable and long lasting, meant to be bought once or twice a year or last forever, but they’re not. I rescind my earlier statement!

1. LOVE YOURSELF!!! stop saying you're ugly!!
2. Try the clothes that YOU like. It's not necesary to buy expensive clothes, just buy what looks good on you.
3. If none of this works, try using oversized clothing, so you will not look very skinny.

@@Sneha-de9xu hey I'm skinny too! I think maybe dresses like the floral ones that go upto your knee (they look good on me). I am muslim so all of my clothes have to be a little loose and it looks good so try things that are a bit more loose.
@@Sneha-de9xu Hi! i could be considered pretty skinny. The first advice I have for you is to not call yourself ugly, because even if you DO look good in an outfit, you won't think so. This will do nothing for your mental health and your self esteem. I know it harder than it looks, but it's possible. Tell yourself everyday the thing you like about how you look and soon enough the "flaws" won't bother you so much.
The next thing I would suggest when it comes to clothes is find what you like! Wear the things you like. Quality is better than the quanity of clothing for sure in this regard.
Styling choices I personally think help as a skinny person is that I personally enjoy wearing slightly baggy shirts and tucking them in, if you don't like this look don't do it but it will make you look slightly less skinny and put together. If you like clothes with puffed sleeves I would wear them because it can help your shoulders be more broad looking, and in the fall and winter layering always looks good! I personally like long cardigans as well for this step, but you can do whatever suits you

Watching this as a sophomore in highschool, it was not realistic for me to build an entire closet like this right away, but now as a senior in college I feel like my closet is finally at this point! So if anyone is watching this and feeling like this is unobtainable, it’s because on short notice, IT IS!! And that’s ok. Building up a closet like this takes time but starting out with a few of these pieces will still add so much to your wardrobe. Since highschool, my style has developed a lot more but this video was such a good foundation for me and my closet, I hope people continue to find it :)

Tip for everyone who can’t afford these brands: don’t focus on the brand name she is mentioning, and first compare the pieces she shows to what you already have in your closet (most of us actually have many of them) and/or make a note of the type of piece she mentions that you like, and look for it at thrift stores/affordable stores. “Beige cropped sweater, straight leg high rise jeans,” etc.
It’s about the style not the specific brand! 🙂

@@Sneha-de9xu late but if you want to hid the skinny part, then don't wear something tight. wear something flowy and maybe try frills (they're cute!)
you can also try to layer your clothes using puffy thing like; puffy sleeves for blouser, and then put some cardigan with wide leg pants(idk what they call but the one that is big around the ankle??)
if you're rich or something, try out a couple big hats!
thought you can just wear an over-size sweatshirt with a high waist loose pants(or smth)

@@Sneha-de9xu hey! I am a bit late, but try wearing less skinny clothes to hide the skinny parts of your body (if that's what you want). I think bell bottom pants look great on skinny people, so maybe try those. And also everything that @lovely mii said. and remember, expensive clothes and brands don't necessarily mean the clothes are gonna suit you. take time and study your body and different styles of clothes and I'm sure you're gonna find something :)
Also, go to a goodwill in a small city, or the edge of a big city, prices are still pretty cheap, there will be hundreds of jeans there.

your videos helped me find my style so much!! when i first started watching you i wore skinny leggings, tight crop tops that didn’t fit and uncomfortable primark clothes. i was scared to be girly and to express myself while also being comfortable, and having valid opinions. now i dress like i live in a cottage, sometimes hippie/punk, my style is so much nicer and i’m so much more confident! it boosted my confidence in my body, my personality (my clothing not reflecting who i am as a person) and feeling comfortable in my femininity. deadass i owe it to you so thank you 💕💕

I'm coming back 4 months after watching this video to share a PSA: EXPENSIVE JEANS ARE NOTICEABLE! I never cared too much about jeans because they're expensive as heck, but after I got smarter with shopping I'm never going back. I've never bought an expensive pair of jeans for full price but thanks to depop I have 4 pairs of vintage and/or name brand 100% cotton jeans and since then my jean radar has been beeping. I don't know how, but I really notice jeans in an outfit now. Even when browsing on depop I can tell whether or not jeans are good quality or not just from the picture. And that means I notice on the daily with people I meet, too. Obviously it doesn't matter in the long run if people have good jeans on or not, but good jeans do stand out. I've become more confident when I wear jeans because I know they fit well and look good. I really agree with Ashley that a good pair of jeans changes the whole game. But if you don't have the $100 to spend and your thrift store is an abyss of grandpa clothes, definitely try depop, there's so much selection.

For Madewell bring in an old pair of jeans you want to get rid of (any brand) and they'll give you a 20 dollar discount on a new pair! If you wait until they have store-wide sales and use this discount the jeans get way more affordable (and you get to recycle your denim instead of throwing it out! Yay sustainability!)

I'm a senior in highschool who's finally confident enough to force myself out of that "Why bother trying to dress well if I'm not naturally pretty, I'll just wear what my mom buys for me" phase and actually changing things I'm capable of changing, like hair and makeup and fashion.
And honestly, getting comments about the way I've put together an outfit or the way I look in a certain piece of clothing makes me so happy because it's something I actually worked on changing for myself. People say you dress well for the benefit of other people, but that couldn't be further from the truth for me. When I look in the mirror and love the way I look because I CHOSE to look that way, I'm unstoppable.

I think it’s pretty easy to incorporate the whole oversized look into your style! What’s most important is that your style makes you comfortable. I love the oversized look and I wish I could pull it off.
That’s because you haven’t found your style yet! Once you find a style that you feel comfortable and confident in, you won’t be as insecure anymore. Trust me I know.
Most of my wardrobe includes oversized hoodies case my parents a have a problem with legit everything I wear. I have never choosen an outfit with them not tearing me down about it. And when I try to dress nicely they act someone else is influencing me to do so. They don't know that they are the ones ruining my confidence. 😳😳😕

That pop star level of wardrobe novelty is almost all fabricated. I can understand you getting bored of a unique piece if you wear it over and over, but the comment and video were talking about basics (white tees, jeans, etc). These are meant to be repeated for their simplicity. Also, as others said, if someone finds you boring because of your clothing, you probably don't want to be friends with people who make decisions so superficially. I wouldn't worry too much about what other people think, it's your life & your style, not theirs!
