All the damn time I get this comment in school. We only have one day to wear our preferred outfits since we have school uniforms, I wear plain longsleeves, croptops and other super casual for me and still some just can't let me be 😌😂

every time i wear jeans random people are like no dress?? and if i do wear jeans it’s jeans flats and a blouse i wore a hoodie and jeans one day and my friends thought i was dying
I would also totally recommend thrift stores when trying out a new style!! You can get a lot of pieces for cheaper and it's less of a risk if you end up not liking the style bc you didn't spend a ton of money on it
I have anxiety, so whenever I wear clothing that I really love I become insecure and paranoid. that’s why I usually come back to the same boring clothes.
I believe in u girl I do too but I’m slowly starting to change my style without stretching too far, so just swap baggy tees with tucked in tees that are pulled out halfway, for an example
I agree with the first one so much 😭😭😭 I know what my style is and I can afford to buy most of the clothing I want but I’m too scared to wear skirts and dresses to school
When I put together a nice outfit that really makes me feel comfortable and "100% my style" i take a pic of the whole look and save it to an outfit album on my phone gallery, when i don't know what to wear i just check these outfits and mix the pieces then come up with a few new ones! maybe this advice could help someone
Same. All of them are like Walmart and target kid clothes because there cheap . Crap didn't think this comment would blow up but also all I basic own is a couple good shirt , shorts, and jeans and I'm still stuck with my cat clothing from last year lol
Another tip I suggest is looking at movie characters who’s style you like. Since they exist in their little bubble of existence, they can’t change and follow current trends which more often then not, you follow cause you see a lot of people wearing and then get sick of.
I can just imagine Ashley dragging in all those houseplants from around her house just to have them in the frame and you know what...? Me too Ashley. Me too.
the tragic part is that i own so many plants that i didn't even have to move any into frame.. those are just the usual plants that hang out in my mirror corner
I feel most people are lacking the confidence to be themselves because they aren't completely open towards how other people express themselves. What we personally find uncomfortable, we tend to think of negative thoughts first-hand because it's something different which feels alien to you. I feel that in order to be more confident you have to accept others for who they are and see everyone more open minded. That in hand makes you more comfortable wearing what you want because others see you being yourself and don't judge you for it
this...i always like to wear bright colors and eye attracting stuff because i thought basic clothes were boring but recently i have experimented with basic crop tops & jeans and i find that it really flatters my body :>
Same, she always says I need basic t-shirts. I want to get into Gothic Lolita fashion. If I find a cute blouse or something, she says it looks like old lady clothes T-T
Understanding that your style journey is an ongoing process that is never fully complete, is really key. I have a terrible habit of wanting to curate the "perfect" wardrobe right now and buying a bunch of items all at once. I have since decluttered or don't wear most of what I've purchased over the past few years 😩 Your content is just so positive and inspiring! I wish I had known all of these things when I was young like you, and could have saved myself years of feeling unattractive and uncomfortable in my clothing. But I'm very grateful to have found your channel.
My issue: scared of looking like overdressing/being extra loooll cuz i sometimes i like polished styles (like buttoned shirt, slacks, loafers) but most people in my class wears hoodie/tshirt and jeans :/
Do it! I used to wear skinny high waist jeans with Tshirt so like really basic and stuff and it never felt right. It was okay but not RIGHT. Now I wear (extremely) ripped, Jeans, oversized Tshirt and men's sweater, stuff like that and since this change I feel so much more comfortable and it feels more like myself. You'll find people loving you for beeing that extra. Don't hide in the crowd be special!
that's me exactly. i feel like i'm going to stand out because my entire school wears sweats and sweatshirts, and i want to wear a skirt and blouse and clothing that makes me look nice.
Okay, but when my mother takes me shopping, she needs to know the difference between taking your time to shop, and literally just spending forever trying to convince me to buy something I don’t wanT
Mom used to do that too & I decided to stop wearing them & not buying clothes... Then she stopped but eventually my mom choice of choosing my clothes got better.. I was kinda surprised lol
"Why're you all dressed up?" idk mum I just wanted to look cute but I guess I'll go change- I'll wait until I move out to do that thing we call fashion.
I slowly managed to change it more to my style but to be honest I still have a lot of clothes that belonged once to my sisters since I'm the smallest one and our mom doesn't accept reasons like it does not fit my style to go shopping for new outfits
The only reason I'm here is because my mom told me I need more clothes. But I'm not sure what my style is yet so I just get some stuff and kinda forget I need clothes.
me: wearing something that i want to wear and that fits my style my sister: you don’t look in that/ you can’t pull that off me: going back to wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts 24/7
Ashley should start a podcast. I swear she's such a good motivational speaker and a smart ass person I wish to hang out with. Her cool style & understanding of things just calms me down because finally, I'm not the only one struggling here, even Ashley who's a famous girl with a wonderful fashion sense is still struggling sometimes. WE NEED ASHLEY TO MAKE PODCASTS. LIKE HARDER SO ASHLEY CAN SEE AND NOTICE OUR PLEA!! PODCASTS!!!
It’s so nice to look at this after a few years and realize I did follow this advice. Thank you so much this really helped me dress in a way that gives me confident in myself
If I were ever to become a mom, I would NEVER say a bad thing about my child's taste in clothing. The only comments on ANYONE'S clothing choices should be in terms of respect, like censoring to ensure they arent blaring hateful messages of any kind. Other than that, wear what ever ya love my dudes. Wear whatever gives ya soul the warm fuzzies
@Lee jasmin hey, hey, no need to be rude. It’s true that parents should be supportive of their kids’ choices (so long as they’re not harming anyone), and it’s also true that not all of them are.
dressing up and looking stylish and good is so fun!! it gives me an enormous amount of happiness and confidence that not a lot of people in my life can “give”, especially during this quarantine period :))
mom: why are you so dressed up, we're just going shopping? brain: *imagines meeting a celebrity out in public who will compliment my outfit* me: no reason
Also I’ve found that building self-confidence helps with enjoying fashion in general. I use this tip: Next time you’re sitting at a coffee shop or outside somewhere, or even scrolling through Instagram. Try and think one positive thing about everyone you see, “damn they look confident af!” “Wow girl is killing it in those shoes” “those glasses look awesome on him!” “Her hair is styled so well, looks amazing!” “I love that jacket he’s wearing!” “They look sensational” “I love the colour they dyed their hair!” Etc etc Then at some point after you just keep complimenting everyone instead of comparing yourself to them you slowly start just building that positivity about others and internalising it, to a point where you can say “yeah I look good today!” “I’m feeling confident in this” “I love this jacket it makes me feel good” “I love how my hair is styled this morning” and recognise sometimes you’re just going to have off days, but keep going ❤️
The second waves starting here and I am going on my second marathon of all of Ashley's videos and I am so freaking proud that my teenage self discovered her cause I am rewatching all of these videos and realising wWOW!!
Hey, Ashley, you’ve been a major inspiration for me in finding my sense of style. And I definitely agree that confidence takes time. I personally think of confidence as a skill, one you have to practice to get better at. These days, I wear a superhero cape to class, because it’s fun. And it makes me very happy. I’m glad I got to see this video, because it was very helpful
Lol I wanna wear dresses to school but everyone will think I'm trying too hard when in reality, it's more comfortable than jeans, and if I wear a hoodie and sweatpants, people are gonna judge me for not trying enough like seriously let people wear whatever they want to school as long as its not against dress code or whatever😭
@@targetbleach8689 So I'm going into high school next year, and the reason I didn't wear any dresses or skirts this past year is because I didn't want people asking questions! Up until this past year I wasn't ever really interested in the more "feminine side" of fashion, so I didn't want people to ask me why I was changing it up. Now I'm glad I can start next year and (hopefully) not get too many questions!
I wore a skirt to a boy’s birthday party.I rlly liked my outfit, but when I arrived there all the girls especially were dressed very casual with sweats and jeans on.I was like “i still like my outfit” but then a girl told me”why are you dressed so formal?” and jfudjjehd it just ruined my confidence for the whole night.
I really love how Ashley just increases our confidence by her amazing personality. Most of the times, we are all surrounded by people who either judge us for our style or are more stylish than us which makes us insecure as hell! I accidentally stumbled upon Ashley's channel a few days back and I am OBSESSED! She's natural, friendly and just amazing. I feel my fashion improving already. Thanks a lot Ashley!
Me wanting to dress grungy/alternative but being too scared to cuz I don't want my peers or parents to judge me and also not having the clothes to actually be alternative or grungy ;(
Hannah Campbell thrift or learn to upcycle clothes! I'm trying to get a casual grunge and vintage mixed style, and I have exactly nothing of what I need to dress like that, or at least I thought I didn't. I actually realized that a lot of my pants/shorts sort of match that style, and now I only need to search for shirts and jackets. Narrow it down a bit like that and try to collect pieces over time!
Try stores like Ross, TJMax, Winners, and outlets like Dillard’s Clearance Outlet (you can get high quality name brands for cheap prices) hope that helps 💕
Genuinely thank you so much for this. I've spent so much time buying random thrifted clothes that I just kind of like. This really helped me think about what I really like wearing and it helped find my personal style. I ended up clearing out 75% of my wardrobe, selling and donating it all, and then buying clothes I actually would wear and love. You probably won't see this but thank you Ashley!
Can we just talk about how fantastic her setup is? Like the two matching wooden bags hanging, the mirror at the back that reflects what she sees except she covers the camera, and the plants. Like, girl, you aesthetic man, subscribed.
My friends have described my style as, "Divorce court lawyer who is also a churchgoing single mom with a wild side" and I think thats pretty accurate. I attend a school that's 20% VSCO, 15% emo, and 60% athleisure so I stick out a bit when I walk into a sea of black sweatpants and scrunchies with a vintage blouse, teal blazer, mom jeans, and heels at 8 in the morning.
I used to watch your videos in awe, like, I could never be that fashionable or confident. I'm 21 now and I can't believe that I'm finally finding my own style and curating my closet with the help of your videos.
Confidence is key! After being in a shitty relationship for 4 years, and him literally throwing all of my clothes and makeup away. I left and now 6 years later I am finally starting to buy more clothes that I love. I recently bought a pair of bright pink gingham trousers and they made me so happy! And everyone I saw that day made a nice compliment on them. Now I feel so much better and I'm delving into my fashion a lot more which is what I love! Like the old me I finally feel like I'm back 😄
Thank you so much for mentioning how most of us have an eclectic style when we’re first trying to figure out what types of aesthetics we love and reflect our most authentic selves. I personally love vintage, minimalism, dark & light academia, and also a basic outfit consisting of a crop top and high waisted bottoms. I’m definitely figuring out how to wind them in together that is uniquely me. 💕
i love the fact that ashley addressed how scary it can be to wear what u wanna wear, and i honestly appreciate that so much bcs i thought nobody else relates ;-;
Fun Fact: If you don‘t have enough motivation and are in a bad mood so you don‘t want to search two pieces of clothing, wear a dress, people will think you‘re dressed up even tho you were just too lazy to match two things.
i hear this all the time i wear a wrap dress denim jacket and converse most day i wear a girly casual thing everyday my friends think i dress up too much
Also totally relate to the dressing fancy anxiety. My friend group almost exclusively wears like nerd t-shirts and as much as I love nerd t-shirts, I love feeling dressed to impress
My mom always told me "anytime you step out into the world, put your best foot forward" Dress up, love yourself, explore your options and have fun with fashion. I get that anxiety sometimes but then I push past it and then dress how I went. Once I leave the house I feel beautiful and amazing. When I am unable to I wind up feeling gross and awful anytime I pass by a window. And hey, maybe you dressing up will encourage others who thought they couldn't.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I always want to dress nicely and pristine but I don't want to look overdressed in comparison with my friends or people around me and feel uncomfortable.
The one and only helpful video about style on youtube! I keep coming back, rewatching it every so often ecpecially when I feel lost in my own style. Much love to you girly!
Im the same! I love mens jumpers and people always question it. Theyre nice, compfy, oversized, etc. mens clothing (jumpers and tops especially) are so comfortable!
I always feel pressure at school to always wear sweatpants/joggers and all the stuff... sometimes I wanted to dress nicer, but I felt like people would make fun of me for caring. This video really inspired me to be myself, and to wear whatever I want to wear. Thank you so much for pushing me to be myself❤
glad that people are getting their self confidence, i relate so so much and i have finally found what i like. be yourself and don’t give a damn what people think. if someone doesn’t like your outfit it doesn’t matter as long as your like it that’s all that matters!
Sydney yess everyone has different styles don’t let what other people think stop you from being yourself! My best friend would always dress up for highschool and would never leave her house in sweatpants. Me on the other hand, I wore sweatpants or sometimes jeans everyday in school because that’s what was comfortable for me ☺️
Sydney omg I couldn't relate more 😂 I've always wanted to wear a skirt to school, but the one time I did everybody was like 'oMg wHy aRe yOu dReSsEd lIkE tHaT tO scHOOl hUH?' So I never did it again, but now I'm starting to have more confidence and maybe do it again one day 😂
It was literally the exact opposite at my school, everyone came from rich households and had nice brand name clothes and I made/make like 85% of my wardrobe myself. It was a struggle but now in university people are less judgemental :)
i've been trying to find my own style for almost two years now and i have noticed that the clothes that i'm comfortable in is not necesarily the one's i want to wear. like i kinda want to try more feminine style but i'm just not comfortable in it.
How has it been going? If this helps: the first time you wear something outside your comfort zone it will feel pretty weird and people might look at you a lil differently. But after you wear more clothes of that style, people will start to not care and get used to how you dress and you will get used to it too :)

every time i wear jeans random people are like no dress?? and if i do wear jeans it’s jeans flats and a blouse i wore a hoodie and jeans one day and my friends thought i was dying
Haha I love that!! I wish it was warm enough where I am to do that

I would also totally recommend thrift stores when trying out a new style!! You can get a lot of pieces for cheaper and it's less of a risk if you end up not liking the style bc you didn't spend a ton of money on it

When I put together a nice outfit that really makes me feel comfortable and "100% my style" i take a pic of the whole look and save it to an outfit album on my phone gallery, when i don't know what to wear i just check these outfits and mix the pieces then come up with a few new ones! maybe this advice could help someone

Omg yes
I feel most people are lacking the confidence to be themselves because they aren't completely open towards how other people express themselves. What we personally find uncomfortable, we tend to think of negative thoughts first-hand because it's something different which feels alien to you. I feel that in order to be more confident you have to accept others for who they are and see everyone more open minded. That in hand makes you more comfortable wearing what you want because others see you being yourself and don't judge you for it
My tip is, don't be afraid to be "basic" and to wear ordinary or common clothing, you don't have to be unique to be incredible
Yash

Why is that such a mood
Sameee my mom forces me into dresses and I I littarly only were jeans 👁👄👁

Understanding that your style journey is an ongoing process that is never fully complete, is really key. I have a terrible habit of wanting to curate the "perfect" wardrobe right now and buying a bunch of items all at once. I have since decluttered or don't wear most of what I've purchased over the past few years 😩
Your content is just so positive and inspiring! I wish I had known all of these things when I was young like you, and could have saved myself years of feeling unattractive and uncomfortable in my clothing. But I'm very grateful to have found your channel.
My issue: scared of looking like overdressing/being extra loooll cuz i sometimes i like polished styles (like buttoned shirt, slacks, loafers) but most people in my class wears hoodie/tshirt and jeans :/
omg do it hunny!!!! i used to wear oxfords and button ups with a slim jean jacket! no one cares, express yourself!

I had the same problem but i get around it with saying:"you will just throw away money on something that i will never wear" maybe that will help you
YESS OMG
my mom used to do that and i would just never wear it and she eventually stopped
Or stay in one section of the store for over an hour deciding to buy jeans#1 or jeans#2 -.-
Mom used to do that too & I decided to stop wearing them & not buying clothes... Then she stopped but eventually my mom choice of choosing my clothes got better.. I was kinda surprised lol

Yeah and just make sure your personal bits arent out there
But what if your child wears socks with sandals?
Omg how hurt you
@Lee jasmin hey, hey, no need to be rude. It’s true that parents should be supportive of their kids’ choices (so long as they’re not harming anyone), and it’s also true that not all of them are.
@@shizotypical socks with sandals is the MOST stylish look. (actually as a backpacker i am guilty of wearing it haha..)

“why are you so dressed up?”
im not. i just don’t feel like wearing pants :/
Fun Fact: If you don‘t have enough motivation and are in a bad mood so you don‘t want to search two pieces of clothing, wear a dress, people will think you‘re dressed up even tho you were just too lazy to match two things.

Also totally relate to the dressing fancy anxiety. My friend group almost exclusively wears like nerd t-shirts and as much as I love nerd t-shirts, I love feeling dressed to impress
My mom always told me "anytime you step out into the world, put your best foot forward"
Dress up, love yourself, explore your options and have fun with fashion.
I always want to dress nicely and pristine but I don't want to look overdressed in comparison with my friends or people around me and feel uncomfortable.

glad that people are getting their self confidence, i relate so so much and i have finally found what i like. be yourself and don’t give a damn what people think. if someone doesn’t like your outfit it doesn’t matter as long as your like it that’s all that matters!

this video is so helpful and i love how she talks about finding the confidence to actually fit your style 🥺
i've been trying to find my own style for almost two years now and i have noticed that the clothes that i'm comfortable in is not necesarily the one's i want to wear. like i kinda want to try more feminine style but i'm just not comfortable in it.
Why this comment is talking about me 😑

How has it been going? If this helps: the first time you wear something outside your comfort zone it will feel pretty weird and people might look at you a lil differently. But after you wear more clothes of that style, people will start to not care and get used to how you dress and you will get used to it too :)
