I just returned my QooCam Ultra after 2 weeks of testing. It's a good camera, but something is missing, the images were always "dull" and "uninspired" and required tons of tweaking to be remotely usable. The raw images had tons of data and that's great for someone who loves to tinker every single image (I'm a retired colorist) but I found out that I got tired really fast. Depending for what you need it , this may be the best or the worst 360 camera. For everyday fun shooting I'm still using my insta360 x4. It's way worse sensor and low light capabilities are abysmal along with lacking AEB for proper real estate shooting, but if I'm using it just for fun (vacations etc) it's way better than the QooCam.
That’s an interesting take. The X4 is fun, saturated, bright and the app is wild and ready for todays TikTok generation, whilst the QooCam 3 seems much more serious and full of tonnes of data for people who love grading. Yes, two quite different cameras for different users, totally.
It does have very down to earth, natural colours. After using it for a while I like it, it's very sharp, has great tonality and is forgiving to grade. I think the app needs some work to bring it up to par with the like of DJI and Insta360 but I'm sure Kandao are working on that as I see how quickly they're improving their cameras.
It's good that other companies are trying to catch up with Insta, GoPro and Dji, but Insta still is winning, video is just better in every condition. Thank You for Your effort Filip 🙂🙂🙂
I didn't include it, as there wasn't much point, it can't handle low light, but the Ace Pro can, so it's impressive to see a 360 camera even coming close to it.
The QooCam seems much more serious, right? Which is a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what your needs are. Some people want the punchy out of camera look you get with the Insta360, some people are looking for the more serious ready to grade look of the QooCam. It’s all good feedback for Kandao, thanks!
Off topic, but the Dji mic 2 sound is trash, though. It doesn't make it justice, but it's really a great feature for the price. There is no need for additional accessories
Thanks for the review, I think the flesh tones and overall color seems better on the Insta360 X4 to me. Also the QooCam blew out the highlights in the sky a few times.
Insta360 is insanely over sharpened here. Preferring the the less processed look of the Kandao but the stabilization needs much improvement, the buildings are shaking
In my opinion you missed out on the chance to compare the QooCam to the X4 in low light conditions. I mean, I know how bad the X4 is in such a situation but it might have given the QooCam an opportunity to shine. Compared to the Ace Pro it's sort of meh. OK but hard to get one excited. In regular daylight the X4 looks better to me.
@@PhillipSkraba I must respectfully disagree. about the X4 being OK at night. Maybe with some artificial light and little or no movement of the camera. But in low natural light and used as an action camera, the image stabilisation completely falls apart to the point of being completely useless. And don't get me wrong, I love my X4 (and X2). When the conditions are right, they are (for my purpose) perfect!
It's okay at night, but only in a pinch, it excels in full sunlight, with blue skies and green grass. I love my X4 too, actually the whole X series are amazing. It's not a camera I'd reach for when the sun goes down though, I totally agree.
My gopro fusion from 2017 gives a better image (less blurry at the edges) than this thing.... only the gopro doesn't have slo-mo... I would definitely choose insta 360 x4
@@PhillipSkraba Gopro MAX records on one card and Fusion on 2 cards for each camera, maybe that's why the image may be a little better (I read that the bitrate in Fusion is also higher, but I don't have a comparison between Fusion and Max... another thing is the conversion program from the "panorama" to the rotated 360... INSTA 360 handles it best, but seriously, comparing my Fusion with the Chinese one here, the difference between 2017 and 2024 is very small compared to QooCam (and GOPRO is probably better in the shadows... .).
I would never post video straight out of camera with Qoocam. Doing so invalidates one of the king features of Qoocam. Less noise out of camera and higher bit rate means you can push color corrections and other editing processes further in post processing. I'll go as far to say that this camera is made for people like me who like to edit.
It does do a very good job, and I noticed it has a nice clean image during the day. I like showing what footage straight out of camera looks like so my audience knows where they can start from, and I do know that most people who use these cameras like to post straight to social media. Generally I'm very surprised at how good a camera it is, I've been having a lot of fun with it.
I'm very impressed, I agree, they might not have all the boxes ticked yet, but they really are on their way. It's a good camera in terms of hardware, but neither GoPro nor DJI are on par with Insta360's software, but I'm sure Kandao are working on it.

the qoocam has really nice colors not the overprices look of the insta, damn def worth a look

I agree, competition is needed! 360 cameras need more competition, but I would love to see DJI get some competition when it comes to drones. Thanks!
Except that X4 is horrible in low light conditions. Omitting the side by side comparison in those conditions is a bummer!

I love it! ❤
It’s pretty cool!
Hi Philip! IMO Insta 360 looks way far better in every aspects. Exposure, definition, color, sharpeness… You name it. Thanks!

Yes, sometimes the QooCam lets the highlights clip, but this is something I've been told by Kandao that they are working on.

Yes, I find the Kandao is very natural, very clean, ready for post production, I think that's a good direction for them.

In low light I wanted to put it up against the best to see what it really could do. The X4 is okay at night but nowhere near as good as the Ace Pro.

Really? My GoPro Max 1, a newer model, is way softer than this. Yes, this has pretty cool slow motion, it works well.
