How To Install Nest Doorbell Wired 2nd Generation
1. Turn off power to existing doorbell.
2. Remove existing doorbell.
3. Wire new Nest Doorbell Wired and install on wall.
4. Wire new Nest Doorbell Chime connector
5. Restore Power to Doorbell Circuit.
6. Set up Nest Doorbell Wired 2nd Generation on the Google Home App.

This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

If you are having problems with the Mechanical Indoor Chime NOT WORKING, there is no need to install the CHIME CONNECTOR, IF you are using the original wires from the door bell to the chime. The CHIME CONNECTOR is useful if you have an ELECTRONIC CHIME otherwise it draws power and may prohibit your MECHANICAL Chime from operating properly.

What exactly does it do if it works without it?
@@Elephantmoonlight I think the door bell in this configuration, the switch or button with camera you press needs a constant power source, but it doesn't need to send the 'ding dong' signal through the switch directly, it can also send it wirelessly, meaning or alluding to the point of the chime connector, the chime connector draws power because it's listening for the ring signal from the switch.
OR
Another thing I think it might be is because there is a difference in how mechanical vs electronic chime systems work, this might be the purpose. Example, mechanical chime doesn't use micro-processor and latching/timing circuits, where electronic does, often you see a diode attached to the back of the simple switch on older electronic systems which serves an important function in the circuit.
I think it's one of these two things.
Nice demonstration, just bought the nest battery doorbell but ended up returning it because it’s mounting system was too insecure which makes the doorbell very easy to steal, I see this wired doorbell has a much more secure mounting system, will likely purchase this model

1. APP GOOGLE HOME IS NOT DOWNLOADED IN ALL PHONES. I HAD TO BUY A MOTOROLA PHONE THAT ALLOWED ME TO DOWNLOAD THE APP.
2. THE CHIME DEVICE MUST BE PLACED IN A WORKING ONE CHIME BOX. MY CHIME BOX WAS DEAD, SO I COULDN'T INSTALL IT.
3. FOR 150 DOLLARS I OBTAINED A DOORBELL THAT ONLY SOUNDS OUTSIDE MY HOME, BUT UNABLE TO SOUND INSIDE HOME.
4. IT IS TRASH.
5. MOST CHINA DOORBELLS COME WITH VIDEO DOORBELL AND PLUG IN CHIME DEVICE!!!! WHY GOOGLE NEST DO NOT OFFER THE SAME????
6. ELECTRICIAN COST 50 DOLLARS TO ATTACH IT OUTSIDE ONLY. THE ELECTRICUAN TOLD ME THAT GOOGLE DOORBELL S ARE THE WORST PRODUCT EVER, BECAUSE MOST OF THE CASES ARE LIKE ME. I'd highly recommend installing a 16v 30a transformer for those having an issue where the door chime won't ring. They're like $20 at Home Depot
Well yeah that’s a requirement for wired models. Most people can figure that out from the start

How do you tell which circuit breaker is the right one? Asking for a friend 🙂 Edit: IF you can find your transformer, disconnecting the wires to the doorbell is easier than trying to figure out which circuit breaker to shut down. I found my transformer so just disconnected the wires to the doorbell and it shut off the power to the appliance. I'm lucky I think...that may not be as easy for other homes.

The chime connector concpet confuses me in general, but my main question is if I have 2 one these doorbells, do i need to connect 2 chime connectors?
Via lived experience, I have found that the answer to this is yes. It's very difficult to shove two chime connectors into the chime housing by the way.
Hello! What if I have 2 doorbell chimes in the house? Does the nest only come with one chime?
I have seen another video that show the door bell should ring after turning on the power, even before installing the App. Mine does nothing. I can ring the bell if I short the two wires together so I know it works but the Nest does nothing. The other issue is it fails to connect to the app. The gets an IP address from the router , the wifi extender is 15ft from the door. Do you think this could be caused by the doorbell transformer current is to low and its affecting both problems?
I have a doorbell with a single switch in a utility box. Can this nest doorbell be installed in the utility box?

Great video! I hope you can answer a quick question for me. I've been able to locate our doorbell transformer, however I am not sure where the chime wiring could be. With that being said, where the doorbell would be and that wiring, can I connect the doorbell without figuring out the chime component and just use another Google home product as the chime(ie: mini home, nest hub, etc) and not use the provided Google chime connector?

Where do you get the chine connector? We have the first generation nest that stopped working several mo ths ago. We've purchased this one and watching your instructions, I see you need the chine connector. I am assuming there was one installed with the old. Could we use that or do we need another chime connector? If so, where to get a replacement?

Just installed with no issues, the light was blue, chime worked, but no live video. I turned the breakers off/on, removed the chime and reconnected it, now the light isn’t blue - no lights at all. So frustrating!! Wont do anything now!
Are there any smart doorbells that you suggest that work with less voltage for older homes?

Does the doorbell itself or the little chime connector thing receive the WiFi signal? At my place the doorbell is at a place where there is no WiFi signal, does the doorbell still work for me?

So, I changed out my Wi-Fi system and I can't get my google doorbell 2d Gen wired doorbell to connect. Watching your video at 10:04 on your video gives you an option to select your Wi-Fi network but I don't get that option when I'm trying to install, any advice?
Switch to mesh wifi, put a unit near the doorbell.

I have four wires coming out of the wall cannot remember which ones were connected to my old doorbell they were so messy that I just cut a clean cut and stripped all of them and realized there was four wires not 2 I don't know which ones to use. I have a red one and one that is white striped red and a blue one and one that is white striped blue. Would anybody know which ones I'm supposed to connect to the screws on my new doorbell?
I currently have a doorbell that allows me to choose from 25 different chimes including “happy birthday” oh Christmas tree”, etc. will I still be able to choose the chime from any of the 25 chimes if I install a google nest doorbell?

Nope. You’ll need to go with the battery version or upgrade your transformer

How wide is the viewing angle from this? Will the person at the door be visible if the doorbell is installed on the side of the door?
I don't have that particular doorbell but he says in the instructions that it's supposed to come with the wedge so that's meant for doorbells that are on the side of the door that way it angles the camera to the person in front of the door

This thing is garbage I got two of them and both worked occasionally, often saying live video unavailable. Wasn’t my internet nor was it installation.

Likely your transformer is too small or provides the wrong voltage.
Stucco House? Can be Big Problem. I have 2 security cameras, company installed. 1 installed and working in less than an hr. (2 walls to reach wifi router). Second one barely worked. It was going thru 3 wall and ceiling to get to the wifi. It took 3 technicians 6 hrs total, over 10 days to get it to work. 4th tech simply brought in a plug-in signal booster and works perfectly. Stucco and chicken wire meshing works like a signal blocker. Same with my phone, if I'm outside. Try a booster.

You'll want the battery version, instead.
@@Kracka21C8 Thank you for your reply. I managed to get the 2nd gen wired model working by skipping the chime option in the app and instead linked it with existin Google mini speaker. It worked!

I just installed one of these, and it DOES NOT WORK !!! It will NOT energize the indoor mechanical chime. Wait for V3.
That’s because your transformer isn’t sufficient enough. You need to upgrade your transformer or go with a battery version.
@@pagodad8079 That makes no sense. The V1 version worked just fine, and I'd still be using it, except it broke, and I was forced to buy another. I *ass-u-me-d* it would work the same. The V2 had a huge drain somewhere. As soon as it was remove, the dumb doorbell worked just fine. Screwed up implementation.
Did you ever get it to work? I just picked it up. Connected following the directions. The home app with doorbell worked. The doorbell chime didnt work. I tried again by deleting everything and restarting install from step 1. Chime worked. I had to put the wedge on so I disconnected it and reinstalled. Now no chime.
@@rchan1979 No. Gave up and went back to an analog bell and works fine. So sad - the first generation also worked fine and they went backwards with Gen 2. SHAME

Do not buy it. I had to buy a new phone because my phone didn't allowed me to install google home app.
2. The round chime indoor is a device that have to be connected with an existing electrical box. I couldn't install it because it was not working previously. No sound inside home. Only notifications by phone. Another option is to buy a new and add the round device. It is very expensive to install it properly
This product should be if they offer a plug in device to chime indoor. THE CHIME CONNECTOR DOESN'T WORK !!!!This is the worst chime i ever seen. I totally regret to buy it.
