    So, is the new Nest Wired doorbell a keeper? Here’s a link to it if you’re interested: amzn.to/3rIsRMF

      WORST PRODUCT EVER !!!
      1. APP GOOGLE HOME IS NOT DOWNLOADED IN ALL PHONES. I HAD TO BUY A MOTOROLA PHONE THAT ALLOWED ME TO DOWNLOAD THE APP.
      2. THE CHIME DEVICE MUST BE PLACED IN A WORKING ONE CHIME BOX. MY CHIME BOX WAS DEAD, SO I COULDN'T INSTALL IT.
      3. FOR 150 DOLLARS I OBTAINED A DOORBELL THAT ONLY SOUNDS OUTSIDE MY HOME, BUT UNABLE TO SOUND INSIDE HOME.
      4. IT IS TRASH.
      5. MOST CHINA DOORBELLS COME WITH VIDEO DOORBELL AND PLUG IN CHIME DEVICE!!!! WHY GOOGLE NEST DO NOT OFFER THE SAME????
      6. ELECTRICIAN COST 50 DOLLARS TO ATTACH IT OUTSIDE ONLY. THE EKECTRICUAN TOLD ME THAT GOOGLE DOORBELL S ARE THE WORST PRODUCT EVER, BECAUSE MOST OF THE CASES ARE LIKE ME. IF I WANT TO HEAR THE CHIME INSIDE, THE GOOGLE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT I HAVE TO BUY THE "NEST MINI" OR "HOME MINI" IN ORDER TO LISTEN THE DOORBELL SOUND INSIDE MY HOME.
      RING ARE 10000% BETTER THAN THIS GARBAGE PRODUCT.

    Just installed it yesterday, couldn’t be happier. It was a very simple install for both the doorbell and chime. I think total time between installing both was between 5 and 10 minutes, if that much. I installed a regular doorbell maybe 20 years ago. I was happy to see the screw holes lined up perfectly, I wasn’t expecting that. Setting up the camera on the Google Home app took a while, maybe 30 to 45 minutes, but it walks you through every single step with easy to see illustrations and clearly defined instructions. I created 2 zones, one for people and the other for packages, both of which will send notifications. Outside of my zones, I told Google what to watch and what to ignore, such as vehicles and animals. It will still record people walking by, but I don’t get notifications. 3 hours of rolling recording time is enough to capture anything that happened overnight. I don’t see a need to get a subscription, at least not for now. It captured about 20 events involving people walking by outside of my zone from about 10pm through 7am. One feature that surprised me, is a notification that a package was missing. It was actually me retrieving it just a few minutes after getting a package alert. I’m sure it was mentioned somewhere while I was researching which doorbell to buy, but I thought that was pretty neat.
    My wife and I tested everything out yesterday and made adjustments. We are very happy with this purchase. I have the doorbell announcement on several speakers and audio devices throughout the house. It wasn’t necessary for all of them. I’m still trying to get alerts on my Google TV and Chromecast device. I haven’t figured that one out yet but I’m working on it.

    Thanks for the preview. I agree I would rather have the wide view and use a wedge to point the Nest Hello downwards to cover the area in front of the door. It works perfectly for us. Our first wired doorbell had a bad halo effect and was returned. Due to the timing, we are looking at both the 1st and 2nd Gen Wired, but after your review, I think we will stick with the 1st Gen. The only downside is we cannot get the replacement 1st Gen wired to join our existing network. Now that I know we will be keeping the 1st Gen, I will have to figure out how to get it added to our home network of existing NEST cameras.
    Update: The issue was we had Nest Thermostats installed. They prevented our cameras from being added back to the system. I had to remove the cameras from Nest, install the cameras, and then add the Nest Thermostats back. This is a known issue, but it is not documented anywhere I could find. Everything is working since.

      My first Generation Nest Video Doorbell just died on me. I had it for approximately 3-4 years. It was working fine until the recent monster snow storm we had caused a brief power failure but I couldn't get it to power up again. So I'm getting the 2nd Generation Model to replace it. I assume it's been improved since the first generation.

    I have 4 Nest battery Cameras and the battery Doorbell with the Nest Subscription. The Nest Cameras are great, but the battery doorbell would always miss some parts of an important event. Despite putting it on the highest sensitivity and having it wired... the battery doorbell would fall sort of recording important events. So I bought the new wired one that just came out and love it. I had no idea it has a HDR camera, all I cared for was having 24 hour recording which I do now. I can't wait for Google Home to have a Web View in the near future.

    I really like my first gen wired Google Hello doorbell. It has been hassle free for 2.5 years. I am also impressed with its AI as it knows when a package it is both delivered AND retrieved. Yeah, it is smart enough to know the difference between delivery and picking up a package. I also have a Wyze v3 mounted underneath the porch roof (out of easy view) that has better night sight. So if the night vision is a blurry mpeg mess with Google, I look at the time stamp and find that same footage from the Wyze cam. So a second camera at a different angle really helps.
    Thanks for the video. I think I will pass on this new iteration of Google's doorbell. I think my first gen will still provide more on-going value.

    This is the first time I’ve ever heard of a product losing resolution.
    Ever since Google acquired Nest, there have been so many fumbles. The door bell should have a 4K sensor oversampling to 1080p for great detail, or 4K compressed.
    It is 2022, you need to see faces clearly for any incidents.

    • @sulylunat
      @sulylunat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agree, I have had a few instances in the last few months of a thief walking through my street at night and haven’t been able to get a good enough picture of his face on my nest hello, so seeing that both the resolution and the night vision has downgraded makes this a non starter. Also not a fan of the narrower FOV. The only feature that looks like an upgrade is the 1 hour of local storage. Aside from tha, this new one is a big downgrade from the Hello imo.

    What I really wanted to see was Nest Hello gen 1 vs this new wired. That's the apples to apples. I still can't find any reason to upgrade from gen 1,. especially with lower res and narrower firld of view. Really disappointed with these decisions Google made knowing this was going to be viewed as the potential gen 1 upgrade option. But it's nowhere near enough.

    • @TeamMystic851
      @TeamMystic851 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just curious: what do you like about the Unifi G4 doorbell that is better than the other ones currently on the market? I've been thinking about getting it too and would appreciate your input!

    • @mxdanger
      @mxdanger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TeamMystic851 If you have a Unifi setup and their other cameras it's a no-brainer to get but if you don't have any Unifi equipment then it has a really high barrier to entry as you need an NVR like the UDM Pro to record the footage and a decently sized hard drive to store the days of footage. Although this means you don't pay for any subscription which I greatly enjoy.
      I got their cameras when I upgraded my entire house to a Unifi system, with the UDM Pro, their switch and 3 APs. Which included doing ethernet cable drops for each important room and the PoE cabling for the APs and cameras. I later replaced my Nest Hello doorbell (an actual paperweight without a subscription) with the Unifi Doorbell.
      Although for choosing the doorbell it was more that it was on-par or better than what was on the market at the time, and it just made more sense to go with what worked with my existing camera system.
      I don't regret anything.

    • @TeamMystic851
      @TeamMystic851 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mxdanger Hey I really appreciate your reply! I am very highly considering the Unifi G4 Pro, but can't decide between that and the Nest and the Ring 4 doorbells. I have no issue with setting up my own NVR if it is worth it. I understand the 24/7 local recording is a major advantage of the Unifi, without the need for a subscription fee. However, I have heard of two disadvantages: 1. the two-way audio is choppy and also delayed (to the point where a delivery person at your door has already left before your audio reaches them), and 2. the night vision is subpar.
      I would like to ask a few key questions that would really help in my decision-making: how beneficial is 24/7 monitoring, truthfully? For instance, does it meaningfully catch anything more than a system that only records events/movements? Next, do you feel like the disadvantages I mentioned above are issues that you've experienced, and are things you wish were better? Thank you again for all your input, as this would truly help me with deciding!

    During this big sale for “prime day” I updated all my indoor cams from gen 1 to gen 2. And the gen 1 doorbell to gen 2 wired. I will say the video quality is worse but the features such as listening and talking thru the camera are improved. With the gen 1 I was not able to speak and listen. Also the gen 1 with the hub the video would cut out. The gen 2 fixed all those issues. So all in all it’s worth the upgrade. Nest app is being shut down April 2024. So I just decided to bite the bullet now. Especially since I have like 15 google smart products. The google home app has improved a lot. The wide angle in gen 1 door bell is better. Not sure of why they change on that one. I will most likely buy the new two pack outdoor cams during the Christmas sale to fully switch to all gen 2

    I'm rather puzzled how nest, ring, and unifi doorbells get so much pub while the camera resolution is so terrible. I've switched to a Lorex doorbell, and have been super happy with it. Near 5mp resolution, excellent image quality, day or night. App works great. Ohh, and it smoothly integrates into any dvr that accepts rtsp. Been using it with BlueIris and deepstack AI, and it works a treat. I know not everyone wants to self host, but if the conversation is about a subscription, then even a super basic DVR and Lorex is miles better. The difference even between my older 2mp doorbell, and Lorex, leaves me really confused how < 1mp is acceptable.

    You’re getting this all wrong. The HomeKit Logitech Doorbell is by far the best under $400 doorbell. I love UniFis stuff as I have all their networking gear but the lack of native HomeKit integration. Control4 and savants doorbells might be a little better but honestly I think having the Logitech record to HomeKit secure video is the best bet. One camera is included in all iCloud accounts. I have 12 other 4K cameras recording to HKSV and everything works great. Use Hikvision cameras that also record locally to a NVR. But facial recognition works great and announces people on all TVs and speakers and all devices. Package detection works great. The 9:16 image is wide enough to see packages and it does color at night pretty well. I had a little trouble with it initially because the power supply I bought for it was too powerful. 24vac supplies really isn’t 24. More like 27-28vac. I only had cat6a running to my front door. Why can’t companies just put a Ethernet port with poe on their devices. Even UniFi of all companies. Yeah I know they sell the poe to usb kit now but even though the Logitech has a usb port for power while setting up, it’s on the bottom not the back so it’s not able to use it when attached to the wall without seeing the cable.
    Logitech support is pretty good. A lot of people have complained that it overheats especially when the front door is in direct sunlight, but I don’t have that issue. I mounted mine on a metal decorative switch cover plate and I think it helps dissipate heat and makes it look nicer. I wish they’d make a flush mount version. Wifi on the Logitech is good. 5ghz high speed supported.
    The Logitech just works on all apples devices including the Apple Watch. Two way audio works perfectly. Works great on Mac using the home app. Notifications are instant. And it works with any HomeKit automations you may want to program. And it has a lux light sensor in it that shows in HomeKit.
    I’ve had the Logitech for two years with no problems.
    Oh and zero subscription fees. And because it uses HomeKit secure video, all of the video processing is done locally and works without internet. All video that gets uploaded to apples cloud is encrypted locally and apple doesn’t have the keys. And they’re not selling user data. No way would I ever use a google or Amazon product in my home. Even with secure dns ad blocking servers.
    Quit saying these other doorbells are the best. Compare it to the Logitech. Then you’ll probably want to make a video saying how wrong you were.
    And I hate Logitech. Their remotes have been a pain in my a for 20 years. And they just discontinued them.

    Hi Reed,
    Really enjoy your videos. Wanted to suggest adding the Logitech Circle View Doorbell to your upcoming doorbell comparison video. The HDR on this doorbell is really good so I’m curious how it will compare to the Nest. Also an opportunity to compare Google’s AI to Apple’s. Adding Reolink if you got it would be awesome too.

    Have you seen the reolink Doorbell yet? I see it in their site, but no reviews yet. I have some reolink cameras and am tempted by the features such as local recording and rtsp/ftp but no reviews makes me nervous. I currently have ring pro but cancelled the subscription after they jacked the price this year.
    I use home assistant, so integration with that would be very useful.

    Great video! I have yet to get a doorbell but this one looks pretty good. Question. I would really like a nice decorative modern looking porch light that has motion detection to turn the light on and off, can be controlled with an app, work with google Assistant, and has a camera that does what the doorbell does. do you know of or have you reviewed any with that functionality? Thanks!

    Hey Reed! Big fan of the channel! Question on the new google wired video doorbell. I currently have the Nest Hello, and a google eco system through the house. But I do have smartthings too.
    Anyway the Nest Hello is delayed anywhere from 10-30seconds. Has the new doorbell improved on that? And if not do you have any other recommendations?

    I had a battery version of Google Doorbell. They forgot to tell there is no call on the mobile just push notifications. Very slow operation. I never had a chance to talk with anyone as the person was million miles away once the doorbell connected to the mobile. I sold mine and avoid any other Google doorbell now.

    One request: Reolink has a POE and a dual band wifi doorbell for under $100 each coming out this month, would be great to see in that round up.

    Thank you for this review. I almost bought the gen 2 to replace gen 1 yesterday. So far the reason I didn’t. Is bc it won’t work on the nest app and only google home app. I’m waiting until they make the google home app as good as nest app or close down the nest app. I am disappointed of the narrower field of view. Odd choice

    Question on google. It's 3 hours for free recording but idk what that means. Can you only see the most recent 3 hours? So if something happens at 1am when I'm asleep, does this mean that I can check footage at 7am when I wake up? Also, when I view the past 3 hours of footage, am I able to download the portion iof the needed footage (like 1 min of package delivery, not all 3 hours).

    Is there any kind of router involved and is there any way it could be hooked to a hard drive? I have Arlo 2 now and all vids are sent directly to a hard drive I clean off about every three months. No costs.

    I know you covered the speed of doorbell notifications, however, how is the speed of package/ motion notifications? I find that to be a huge downfall with the nest hello, as it can take 10 seconds or even more. Nest Hello doorbell notifications still come quit promptly on gen 1.

    I just got the eufy 2k 2 camera doorbell and it's nice but it doesn't fit with the the Google ecosystem. It doesn't show on the good hub max, on the Sony Google TV's or any where. You have to ask for it to be shown but you cannot respond. I think I might get this Google doorbell instead, i want it to integrate nicely to the hub and TV's. Hopefully it's better than the eufy one
