Thanks for this final review of the tcl 851G..I went out and bought one this past June...been very pleased with the picture quality..Will soon be signing up to your website to get your settings...Thanks Quantum!!
This year’s TCL QM8 really is very impressive for a QLED rather than a QDOLED! Looks like everyone who needed to get this TV got a pretty darn good deal! Some of the set up elements for my S90D arrived already today so maybe the entire order will arrive earlier than estimated. I am so beyond excited for everything to be here!
Quantum I think you should review the 75” U88N with the ADS Pro Panel, i am saying this only to help fellow consumers bought with my own money and after doing my research. I purchased it coming from a 65” Sony A80J (the kids smashed the screen) I can confirm that it’s a phenomenal TV and it is oled “like”. 3000 nits is more than I need I found myself reducing the brightness, the viewing angles are exceptional, blooming is present however I only noticed it once when using a legacy gaming console and blooming is something I personally cannot stand, with motion I did notice judder three times early on in panning scenes and I had it for a month. This is brotherly advice and a recommendation only do with it as you please.
Got the 75 inch and it's fantastic! The hdr content is super clean. The upscaling isn't great, but it's satisfactory. The anti glare screen is also very good. No blooming and the color is beautiful. Thanks for the settings Q. I turned off the motion, but the color spectrum is spot on. Love this tv.
That opening scene honestly just showed how good the s95d is As someone who was thinking of getting the qm851, I may have to spend the extra and splurge on that
Thank you very much! Only thing you didn´t mention is the viewing angle perfomance. Reviewers say it is bad. What is your opinion on this? Is the viewing angle perfomance acceptable or not? I watch in a dark room and I sit very near, max 1 meter by 75 inches.
Great review as usual. Here in the UK we will not get the QM851G but the C855 which is supposed to be the equal to the 851G in specs. My question is would your purchased settings apply to the C855 in the UK. Thanks
As others have said I hope you do the TCL QM7 55” next there aren’t allot of reviews on that model and I think it would make sense to go to the QM7 after doing the 2024 QM8
Hey Quantum, guess who just got validated by the grand deity of your haters, D-Nice himself. On FOMO's 2024 live shootout just now, he straight-up said he prefers SDR over HDR. Check it out around the 49-minute mark. You should totally drop a casual line like, "As D-Nice and I both agree, SDR is the superior format compared to HDR," in one of your next videos. That’ll have your haters short-circuiting and you'll have the receipts to back it up.
TCL did a great job this year. Hope they continue to put out high-quality tvs for budget price. Your settings are amazing. I use them. I would recommend anyone to use them as well. S95D highlights definitely better, but $1500 more. It's hard to justify that amount of money for a little more you get. Stll like to see you have QM8 vs. Sony Bravia 9.
I think that using Special K or ReShade HDR shaders (like Lilium) will significantly improve HDR quality on the QM851G (and other Mini LED TVs) compared to the native HDR on consoles

Does Samsung have the same burn in tech that LG does?
@@Quantum_TVthanks! I’m deciding between a 85” Hisense U8N or the 77” Samsung S90D. Any recommendations? I’m thinking the bigger size. I was considering the TCL but went to Best Buy and it looked like the Hisense had better colors. And the TCL was over brightening the entire screen. Spec wise you would think the tcl would be better. My local Best Buy didn’t have a S90D on display. They had the LG C4 and B4 and Sony Bravia 8 which all three of those looked amazing. Bravia 8 and C4 seemed close and the B4 last.
Question, would the highlight contrast be even better on the larger screen sizes? The sun on the clouds for example, since the larger sizes increase the amount of backlights while stretching out the same amount of pixels, you technically have a lot more control over smaller areas for highlights and contrast.
Been researching a ton and it came down to QM8 vs Bravia 9. This “review” sealed the deal for me. QM8 It is! Do you have your calibration settings posted somewhere or can you let us know how you’ve calibrated your set values by chance?
