It’s important to have your own independent lives so that you don’t get your feelings hurt when these types of things happen. If you have a friend who just completely forgets your existence when they get with a new partner, that is probably not a very good person or friend but if you have a friend who still cares about you, who still responds to your messages, who still tries to meet up maybe once in a while, even if it’s less frequent, I think that’s a good friend and she’s probably doing her best to make room for this new person in her life and keep you in hers at the same time. This is the nature of the world. We are all trying to find a mate. I’ve been really lucky with my friendships that my friends have all had partners and some have gotten married and I’ll always get the random texts just checking in and the “hey I miss you, let’s meet up soon” texts. I really cherish it. Good friends are hard to come by, let’s allow people grace.

One day out shopping with this witch I forget to transfer my wallet with my credit cards, cash, etc. into the crossbody purse. I decided to see if this witch would help, I saw an on-sale blouse that I wanted it only cost $95.00. This witch had a few $100.00 bills when she paid for her purchases I asked put this on your bill and I'll pay you back as soon as we return hm. she said no, I can't do that right now. This witch was staying with my husband and me rent-free for over a yr. didn't even buy food. But, when we returned back to my hm. I called the shop put the blouse on my card and helped her pack that night. She went to a hotel. She called me for at least two weeks but, I never interacted with her again. She would always say, you have so much and I'm a giver but, she thought that train was going to last forever, I watch one's behavior when I'm tired you will know. Nothing is worse than a cheap friend or user male or female.

I'm the single one with no kids out of my friends. They all married with kid's, I lost a child. And at times I wouldn't contact them, because I'm like oh they got they family etc. I don't want to intrude or what not.. But boy do they love me, they kid's too. They be like you're apart of our family too. So I appreciate them, that they still follow up with me, invite me places etc. My circle small, and can't trust everyone. That is lovely. I totally get your side of things and it's nice your friends still have that love for you and vice versa 💛. One of my friends has been with her guy for almost three years now and I hardly see or speak to her anymore. She leaves my messages unread for weeks or messages randomly on a Friday just to say "Happy Friday". I felt guilty in case I was coming across as needy so I initially didn't say anything about how I felt for about a year. When I did talk to her about it, she didn't seem to think there was a problem and said she would make more of an effort but nothing changed so I decided to let it be whatever it is. The few times that I have seen her, she has her phone glued to her and responds to messages she gets so I took the hint. Despite her saying nothing is wrong, actions speak louder than words. All my other friends with partners, kids or both seem to still be able to make time for friends. She doesn't have any kids and spends most of her time with her boyfriend and family (parents, siblings etc) so I'm happy for her and the love in her life. Whenever we do see each other, we enjoy our time together as if we saw each other yesterday so I guess it is what it is.
It doesn’t even have to be a relationship, it could be a new job. Balance is also important. You are not gonna immediately know how to balance everything so it is important that your friends be patient until you figure it out. I don’t think people owe me when I do them a favor. I am too genuine for that crap.

I recently lost my best friend for that exact same reason, kinda. Long story short, me and him were always the single ones out the group of guys. Once he met his girl I knew things were going to change and sorta had to mentally prepare myself for that. Once they made their relationship official things did change. We didn’t talk as much or hang out as much, but I was truly happy for him because I knew this was something he wanted for a very long time. We even spent a good 7 months without speaking, sorta just grew apart. I eventually reached out because life is short and that was my best friend… we ended up catching up and it seemed like we were in a good space. Finally, something ended up happening where I said something out of pocket, his girl got offended, and he cut me off. I wish him and his girl the best though. No hard feelings.

Ironically this is my number one sign of maturity. Once you get to an age where you understand (initially) when you start a relationship, you should spend as much time with him. And friends that get this....are true friends. Depends on your lifestyle. If I saw my friends a lot weekly bc I always partied with them as a single woman, then obviously getting in a new relationship not only means talking to them less but also not hanging with them as much, since those single activities are no longer appropriate when I get committed. Now if I always texted my homegirls once a week but then acted like I couldn’t text anymore just bc I got committed, THAT is completely different.

yup, we were best friends since HS...she met a man and it all changed an ex convict on drugs, our relationship has never been the same after 40 yrs!! I never put a man before our friendship- she didnt attend my wedding, nor my baby shower...but and I was there for her when her mom died, I loaned her money when she needed it.. NOT her man , because I dont treat ppl how they treat me, live and learn
I felt like when i was married or in a relationship, i still made time for my friendship but once they found a new boo things completely change and things were not reciprocated the same to the point where i gave her space to boo love. When it was me who was in something, i wasn't given space to be in all into that person. They would call me when i was with my man at that time and when i would try to get off the phone, they would make things difficult. They would make me feel guilty if i couldn't hang out like i use too when i was married. Then when they finally met someone who is now her husband, things didn't go the same way. When i would called her out on it, i became a problem. So needless to say we are no longer friends.
No they don’t suffer. They adjust to accommodate the presence of someone new. There’s only so many hours on a day. If someone gets added to the mix you have the same number of hours to now add in another person. No way you can go to brunch every Sunday like you used to if someone else (a parent moved locally, a boyfriend, a child, a new job) or anything else comes in your life. I think you find out who your real friends are. Not everybody is happy for you when they to busy trying to compete. I'm the single one with no kids out of my friends. They all married with kid's, I lost a child. And at times I wouldn't contact them, because I'm like oh they got they family etc. I don't want to intrude or what not.. But boy do they love me, they kid's too. They be like you're apart of our family too. So I appreciate them, that they still follow up with me, invite me places etc. My circle small, and can't trust everyone. But my circle is literally my family, love yall! ❤

One of my friends has been with her guy for almost three years now and I hardly see or speak to her anymore. She leaves my messages unread for weeks or messages randomly on a Friday just to say "Happy Friday". I felt guilty in case I was coming across as needy so I initially didn't say anything about how I felt for about a year. When I did talk to her about it, she didn't seem to think there was a problem and said she would make more of an effort but nothing changed so I decided to let it be whatever it is. The few times that I have seen her, she has her phone glued to her and responds to messages she gets so I took the hint. Despite her saying nothing is wrong, actions speak louder than words. All my other friends with partners, kids or both seem to still be able to make time for friends. She doesn't have any kids and spends most of her time with her boyfriend and family (parents, siblings etc) so I'm happy for her and the love in her life. Whenever we do see each other, we enjoy our time together as if we saw each other yesterday so I guess it is what it is.
It doesn’t even have to be a relationship, it could be a new job. Balance is also important. You are not gonna immediately know how to balance everything so it is important that your friends be patient until you figure it out. I don’t think people owe me when I do them a favor. I am too genuine for that crap.

I recently lost my best friend for that exact same reason, kinda.
Long story short, me and him were always the single ones out the group of guys. Once he met his girl I knew things were going to change and sorta had to mentally prepare myself for that. Once they made their relationship official things did change. We didn’t talk as much or hang out as much, but I was truly happy for him because I knew this was something he wanted for a very long time. We even spent a good 7 months without speaking, sorta just grew apart. I eventually reached out because life is short and that was my best friend… we ended up catching up and it seemed like we were in a good space.
Finally, something ended up happening where I said something out of pocket, his girl got offended, and he cut me off. I wish him and his girl the best though. No hard feelings.
@Queen Nikki it really does. Sucks cuz I knew him for 8 years. And no love lost on my side, I will forever be thankful for all the years of friendship we had. That dude taught me a lot. But you know, life does go on and people grow apart. I learned a big life lesson with that one.

@@-.a9942 we were just having guy talk and I jokingly, and now I admit I was wrong, said that one of my other friends girlfriend looked better than his girl. It was a joke , like I honestly though in the context we were having the convo that he would laugh and brush it off.. but nope.. lol
Ironically this is my number one sign of maturity. Once you get to an age where you understand (initially) when you start a relationship, you should spend as much time with him. And friends that get this....are true friends. If you even slightly feel upset that your girls aren't calling or texting as much, that is a wake up call you need to work on boundaries and internal growth.
I had a sibling like this...she would call talk to me everyday when she was overseas at college and the minute her friend visited her she stopped communicating ... when her friend left after 2 weeks she then started communicating with me again and I asked my sister if her friend left and my sister said yes... and I said “oh I figured that’s why you started contacting me again ...” girls are just like that... they prioritize your worth in their heads and reveal what you meant to them when things switch up... I haven’t spoken to my sister in years... to my mother in like 6 years... they only try to contact me when they need something from me

Have you communicated that to them? Don’t generalize women based off of your family. Many women, especially in long term relationships, know the worth of friends as well. Depends on your lifestyle. If I saw my friends a lot weekly bc I always partied with them as a single woman, then obviously getting in a new relationship not only means talking to them less but also not hanging with them as much, since those single activities are no longer appropriate when I get committed. Now if I always texted my homegirls once a week but then acted like I couldn’t text anymore just bc I got committed, THAT is completely different.
No, I keep my circle. It is important to have balance. Too many women lose themselves this way. Men do not do this.

I'm blessed that my friend didn't change on me she got married. We still do our weekend catch-ups, we still talk and text and her husband don't mind me being a 3rd wheel on certain occasions lol. I give them their space and respect their boundaries so they don't mind me being around lol 🤣💯💯🙏

I never put a man before our friendship- she didnt attend my wedding, nor my baby shower...but and I was there for her when her mom died, I loaned her money when she needed it.. I felt like when i was married or in a relationship, i still made time for my friendship but once they found a new boo things completely change and things were not reciprocated the same to the point where i gave her space to boo love. When it was me who was in something, i wasn't given space to be in all into that person. They would call me when i was with my man at that time and when i would try to get off the phone, they would make things difficult. They would make me feel guilty if i couldn't hang out like i use too when i was married. Then when they finally met someone who is now her husband, things didn't go the same way. When i would called her out on it, i became a problem. So needless to say we are no longer friends.
I had the same experience like you. Most friends use you as a filler in their lives till they find someone. This is eye opening.

No they don’t suffer. They adjust to accommodate the presence of someone new. There’s only so many hours on a day. If someone gets added to the mix you have the same number of hours to now add in another person. No way you can go to brunch every Sunday like you used to if someone else (a parent moved locally, a boyfriend, a child, a new job) or anything else comes in your life. Anyone who catches feelings for a change in frequency of contact is a needy peon.

I think you find out who your real friends are. Not everybody is happy for you when they to busy trying to compete. It’s only natural when your in a new relationship to want to spend time with them especially if you both have busy work schedules and a real friend would understand you might not hang out but a text or phone call at least.
Naturally yes, some for the better some for worse. Some people get distant because they are starting a family building a life etc. Others it’s because they are being controlled and can’t see their friends anymore 🤷🏽♀️

I don't think switch up but always realise that relationships are important. Friends of friends who get married will realise that priorities will change, friends won't make you pick or should be THAT self centred.
