    For all of the reports about the damn being in bad shape before this happened, it sure is holding up really well given how much water is overrunning it.

    The opening shot of this video has someone standing on that embankment that is being washed away every second. Very risky behavior just to get a shot

    It appears that dam is a lot tougher than expected,wouldn't surprise me if if outlasts this flood. 🙃👍

    The white house is Rapidan Dam fell last night. And the remaining peice went this morning. The Rapidan store is now being threatened as the trees and fence behind the house have washed away too.

      Does that mean the "back room for rent - great river view" is off the market? Oh for shame-!! So many had their hopes for that lovely spot? "Insomniacs! This is your dream room! You'll be swallowed up in dreamy flowing water sounds-!! Snooze here!!" Darn. I had my swim-fins and sleeping-mask already-!!

      Sucks it fell in this morning plus the tree to the left. I suspect they'll tear the dam down after this. It doesn't make power anymore.

    This is so strange because I thought just a few years ago they reconstructed Highway 169 between Mankato and Saint Peter by raising the grade to prevent it from flooding anymore. Well, I guess that project was a failure.

    I've seen low-lying roads across this country in various states. Why, O why are roads and highways built on low-lying areas???
    And, furthermore, why are neighborhoods built in low, swampy areas???
    Then, stuff like this happens, and the swamps or river waters flow right over them all.
    Just doesn't make sense.
    Poor people and animals! Prayers for them offered up to the Lord Most High. 💜💙🕊💙💜

    looking on google the river seemed to be dried up for quite some time, would have been a good time to remove the dam but they didn't bother and now look at this mess

    debris or not, there's no way that dam could handle that much water - and it looks like there was no emergency spillway at all before, so the river created one. Seems like a really under speced design

    • @lunatechdesignsmedia
      @lunatechdesignsmedia 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes the city planners and managers of our country are idiots. Look around you. Telephone wires everywhere, roads with 20 lanes, urban sprawling, ugly apartment buildings, not enough family style ranch homes but trailer parks and million dollar homes. Your world is being planned out and there are many with agendas.

    • @nozrep
      @nozrep 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      there was one. the flood was simply too big. The flood overcame the emergency spillway. Emergency spillway have been a standard feature of hydroelectric dams since before the Hoover Dam was built. Standard practice. Nevertheless it was still too much even for the emergency spillway.

    • @patroberts5449
      @patroberts5449 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also it’s well over 100 years old, engineering is much improved! What if we still drove model A’s….. It did well for a spunky 100+ year old dam!

    • @gorak9000
      @gorak9000 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nozrep The "emergency spillway" seems to have been only as wide as the river was, and at that, they had permanently concreted the 2 gates furthest away from the power house shut. Every other dam I've seen has an emergency spillway that's around the side of the dam that's as wide as the river is - basically just like the channel that the river carved around the dam now! It seems to me there was a major design flaw with this dam.

      What in the hell are you even talking about almost every bit of ground in that area is Farm country

    • @nozrep
      @nozrep 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      just some idiot from the city who is uneducated or lacking ability to understand the rain absorption problems that asphalt causes in the cities does not in fact extend beyond the city limits where the vast majority of the dirt is not covered by asphalt. The logical fallacy if false equivalency, as it were, but, unfortunately they would not know that. Hopefully they will choose to open their mind to new educationals.
