- Many eyes have been watching the home on the edge of the washout at Rapidan Dam. It fell 6/25/24 around 9:30 PM.

So sorry for their loss, I know how horrible that feels I lost everything including my home during Katrina.
Oh no, I feel so sorry. I have been following this from the UK and have watched their appearances featuring their business on the various US networks shown here on youtube. To see their childhood home and their dads house tumble into the water was heart wrenching.
Used to fish for catfish at the bottom of this dam with my friends. Prayers to the family, and sorry for your loss.
I stood next to my Dad as he watched his Bar & Restaurant burn to nothing. It’s heart wrenching seeing so many years vanish in front of you.
Hope this family gets the help they need.

75% of that debris blocking the dam was bulldozed to the rivers edges, and dumped in the back yards of how many uncaring "environmental sprayers", with their Round-Up brains and uncaring ways for their neighbors ...., greed and lust for total ownership . Great Spirit cries rivers every day now.

I've never seen a dam without an upstream debris catching boom. It would have prevented the spillways getting jammed up.

@@ssom06 So adding a floating log boom was impossible then? That's all they are essentially. Modern ones are made of plastics.
That would help as would still having use of the two spillways that were permanently closed!

Insurance does not cover entire cost, they are scams.
The state may be partially to blame for the breach BUT lots of people lost their homes in this storm so....

@@FordRangerClassics Hell they couldn't even fix the dam, they said they have been talking about replacing or repairing it for a few years now, this should have been one of them, shit or get off the pot situations, not dragging your feet, that home may have been saved along with other damages from the flooding.

I have been watching this from my Rolling Hills Estates in California.
Oh, i was hoping for a miracle to save that house. I've been following this from San Diego, CA.
There was a church that got flooded out, but a Bible was the only thing that was found dry. A true MIRACLE. Praise the Lord!

Somehow, to me, the loss of a family home is almost more tragic than the loss of a person in old age---people are supposed to die, but buildings represent permanence. Condolences to the family who lost something irreplaceable & to the community also.

oh, so the erosion was ongoing, past two days everyone had the same image of the erosion at the 4th fence post this side of the walkway to the house with the house foundation just barley visible. loosing a house is never good, and there are many with flooded houses from the looks of things.

Better hope the State pays for the re-building of their home. The fact that his dam had an inadequate spillway to handle flood waters is unacceptable by today’s standards! Sorry for the loss of your property. At least the family is safe.
There is no land left to rebuild on. They can only pay for the loss. If they are required to pay at all. Since so many people lost their homes in this storm too, it's possible this house will only get natural disaster insurance.
Blue Earth County owns the dam and knew it had issues. I'm thinking they have liability.

I feel for these folks 😢. All this could've been prevented if they would've had preventative measures that had already taken place it just shows ya those in control of operations like taking care of a damn and a river system like having something upstream to prevent all the logs and trees from creating a blockage, they don't care about what may come of it. Now their home is gone because of it and will they see any compensation for it?? Let's hope so but I doubt it. I truly feel for this family 😢 to watch your family home just be gone in an instant I can't imagine the pain and heartache
Whoever built the home should have known the river was prone to flooding, and built it further away. So yes, entirely preventable.

Hopefully the home owners were able to at least retrieve some things of sentimental value. Furniture and things are replaceable. Family heirlooms and such are not. Fortunately we also live in a time where pictures and stuff can be stored digitally on a cloud drive.

All taht debris blocking the dam, water has to go somewhere. It isn't going to wait around for some city officials to decide to finally clean it out.
That is not a home, it is a storage facility. They already showed this on another actual news feed. Get a grip everyone.
