  • In this video I build a 12x16 off grid cabin in the woods . a great nature viewing cabin with lots of windows.I built this cabin with mostly rough sawn lumber , and discounted and second hand materials. this project took about a month to build , including restoring the wood stove and filming everything . the cost was about $4,500. I saved a lot of money buying all the windows second hand , the door was free . Another way I saved money was using rough sawn lumber from the amish to frame the walls and side the exterior. the wood stove was one we bought second hand as well , it was in rough shape but I restored it . And one last money saving was I found a place that sold cabin grade tongue and groove pine at a discounted price . Check out this playlist for the entire series on this cabin • cozy off grid cabin se...

It will be surrounded in a field of banana trees, so any mistakes will be hidden, fairly. I built electrical substations and a lot of the trenches have to be hand dug so you don't risk hitting something with a machine . there were a lot of times I would have gladly dusted instead . one time we dug over 200 feet of trench by hand and this project overseer who lined up the jobs came out and told us to fill all our trenches he had us at the wrong sub . I would have gladly dusted that day lol .. glad you enjoyed the video it was my pleasure !

    I obviously don't know your financial situation, but when you do all of the work you're doing and not bringing anyone in for labor, that automatically affords you some new tools. Particularly if it makes your work more efficient. Many woodworkers will say you learn your time is your most valuable asset. A pneumatic or gas powered nailer would have saved you a ton of time. Heck renting would have been a justified cost, but you're good. My 1/2 cent says you earned that nailer and several more tools. Outstanding job!

    • @blackspruce1861
      @blackspruce1861  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I borrowed that battery powered nailer and used it for the floor and OSB but I had all those galvanized hand nails and just didn't want to by more . also I ran all my power tools on that portable power station and it wouldn't run my big air compressor that can keep up with my nail gun . I kind of enjoy pounding nails once in a while so its all good. Thanks I'm glad you liked it !!
