- The 2017 Nissan Armada had a lot of potential. Being based on the Nissan Patrol, we thought it would be just as badass as that foreign market off-roader. Unfortunately, North America got a watered-down version of the very dated body-on-frame SUV and it doesn't get any the off-road goodies offered on the Patrol. But it isn't all bad. Sad, because the Patrol sells extremely well overseas, especially in the Middle East and North Africa.... And it's a beast off road
Understood, but most SUVS in the US will probably NEVER go off road no?
Gawd, this video was just a Nissan hate-fest of complaints by someone who doesn't appreciate just how nice this vehicle is and what a great value it is for the money as compared to its competitors. Also to say it should "be the Patrol" is just not thinking, as if it WERE the Patrol it would probably cost about $80,000 in the USA.

If Nissan had offered a beastly world market Patrol they would have missed an opportunity alright...an opportunity to make more money so that they could satisfy the off road purists and the off road posers.

@@joseCalderon1976 - I get your point...but I think that a fair number of people who really would off road as well as people who prowl the soccer fields would buy it just because it isn't a Land Cruiser. They would like something different. Plus, only about 3K Land Cruisers are sold per year here, maybe Nissan wouldn't need to sell a ton of them.
Good honest review
This car was designed for families and I think it's a pretty nice car for that.

Steve and Craig do the best reviews. I would have liked to see you guys take this off-road in that little marsh area under the powerlines that you take some trucks to.
The old Nissan Armada body is the best. Sure this has more HP, but the old design can basically out do it in every category.
anyone notice the blue Bentley bentayga drive by at 1:05?
Of course it's not the patrol, but it still has 270mm ground clearance, low range and center diff lock. Downhill assist and different electronic modes will also help. That's what I need and many families would not even switch to low range. The only disappointment for me is the styling. I hate this fat rear bumper and lights and different color wheel arches. Front bumper looks fine. Just look at the Patrol's rear end, how beautiful it is.
I test drove a new 2019 a couple days ago and completely agree with every point you made about the "NEW ARMADA"
Nothing to see here folks. So many reviewers are stating "this is the Nissan Patrol" badged Armada in the US. IT IS NOT!
The big bulbous bumpers on the US spec car look hideous compared to the Patrol.
C'mon Nissan, give the US market something that can compete head to head with the Land Cruiser.
Once again the US market gets the Soccer Mom crap that the manufacturer says we want.

I like the look of the previous model better.
It's an Infiniti, lol. We looked at one when shopping for the wife's new vehicle but the backseat was hard to get to and tight so we just walked away. Ended up getting a Toyota Sienna minivan. I have a feeling it will be updated very soon.
If you like the Chevy Tahoe, you will like this truck.
Nissan TitanWarrior I have to admit the Tahoe has a more updated infotainment system but when you compare prices for both, the Armada wins .. at least for me, that's why I purchased it (about 8-10k less)

TFL took this truck to the top of the Gold Mine hill without any issues. You are absolutely wrong about the off-road capabilities.
This interior looks almost identical to the QX80 - does that mean that the QX80 is also based on the Patrol? I've driven a 2015 QX80 and the vehicle drove very nicely.
Yep! The QX80 is also now based on the Patrol. Same powertrain across the board too, 5.6-liter V8 and seven-speed automatic.
Autos Fan they are all the same trucks. Armada,QX80,Patrol.....however you wanna call it.

Here we are in 2022 and the real reason why Nissan went overseas to poach the PatrolQX56/QX80 is because of quality issues. Canton location no matter what could not meet the quality control requirements.
Kudos on not prattling on about it has this, it has that and so on.
Over here in the UAE, nissan armada is called the nissan patrol. We have a different armada
when the Nissan Armada and the Volkswagen Atlas have a baby it looks like the Ford Expedition
this is a pretty well detailed review. nice touches and references. not bad at all...
This generation of the Patrol is watered down anyways. It's not exactly the pure off roader the past Patrols used to be even if it were equipped with locking diffs and and a sway bar disconnect. That said, those features will likely make it onto a refreshed version when Nissan want to update this one in the US. It would be a smart move because the refresh would garner a lot of attention than usual from people who hold the Patrol name high as it seems Stephen does.
did I miss it or did he even mention the price? (which is probably too much and will have 6-10k on the hood off)

I don't know why these reviewers always complain about suvs not being off road capable it's really annoying and no one hardly goes off-road with one of these big expensive rigs

divin varghese yeah but they’re supposed to cater to larger markets to maximize profitability. Probably less than 1% of people that drive actually go off-road.

Compare prices and features with the Chevy Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia, 2018 Ford Expedition and then decide..

Oddly enough, its the other way around. The Patrol came first - from which the Infinity QX80 was derived. The Armada is actually a Patrol without the extreme off-road goodies (and related costs).
Everybody likes to dog on foreign vehicles and how it looks like the Infiniti. However if you look at the Tahoe and some of their other high end GMC vehicles, they all look the same other than maybe the grills on them. Common people, start making better comparisons other than the vague hate for a vehicle because that might not be to your taste.
I agree. Also, sadly, now the 2018 Ford Expedition is coming out and it looks just like a Tahoe!
It's a 2011 QX56 what did you expect. As to the off road goodies no one would have bought it for that it would have just added to the cost and they already have $6k cash on the hood.

Nissan missed the mark on a ton of products, not just this
Nissan got incredibly lazy with this truck. Not only they brought what it is essentially an outdated vehicle, they have the audacity to jacj up the price on it. The previous generation Armadas had a base price of 39k and this one starts at 45k. I loved it when the sales manager's jaw drop after I showed him that Nissan passed a 7 year old platform as new
I think I would stay with the GM Twins and the Ford Expedition
you want a 32 valve v8 that roars with the fastest changing automatic transmission?
or you want the expedition with the 3.5 vs turbo that sounds like my fridge?
Gordon the GM twins don't have Independent rear suspension, thats why the 3rd row is so low to the ground and they don't handle as well as the ARMADA and EXPEDITION.

so big v8 independent suspension with is a lot better for comfort and handling on the road
trust me this thing sounds like diesel truck even tho with a petrol V8 and there is nismo version of this truck ( as just 400 hp)

And how many people are REALLY gonna go off road that buy this Armada? Probably what? maybe 5%? I would be glad that it doesn't have all those fancy things that will eventually break and be super expensive to repair. Well, I keep my vehicles long-term and usually until they die, so maybe I'm in the minority here? I would like one of these big SUVS when family comes over that doesn't drive or have a car, because of the extra room.
Maybe Nissan should put those "fancy things" like you said on options. You don't need it you don't pay for it. Let their customers make their decisions.

Surprisingly nonobjective review for autogoide.com, since like 12 people know anything about the foreign market Patrol's off road cred. His lust for that car no one knows about polluted this review. Shame, I Iooked forward to his review; he missed an opportunity to be informative and helpful.
There's an obvious 4th option: evolve the original US Armada, which is unequivocally the best SUV ever developed, and the most reliable. These are easily reaching 400,000 miles with little or no component failures. The only apparent reason that number isn't 500,000, or 700,000, is their 2004 date of birth.

this vehicle looks TERRIBLE and very dated. you missed such an opportunity to make a game changer in the full size market instead of trying to find cost cutting measures in design and between world markets. very disappointed Nissan

I'm really not sure what to say about this. I've seen better looking SUVs. And it really does look outdated.
Had one as a rental a month ago in Houston, AWFUL vehicle, absolutely atrocious...and why isn't cole doing these reviews?
Land cruiser is so much better looking than this...
