I'm American but thankfully someone uploaded the new segments to YT for me. I think Sutekh grew in power in the void, in the vortex, after the Doctor destroyed his body, his mind lived on and not content to just be the last Osirian, I think he decided to take those beings he couldn't kill, those others that are deathless, and make his own Pantheon as a final posthumous thumb in the eye of Horus and all who betrayed him. He made himself the god of all gods as he felt was his rightful place.

Eh, I doubt it. Russel literally just blew up his new tardis set in its first scene. I doubt he would make a dig at someone for blowing up a tardis when every showrunner has done it at least once

Exactly, this. Sutekh could not have latched onto the Tardis unless the Tardis “strayed” into the local time corridor which linked the estate to Egypt. That would have made little sense and the Doctor would have noticed that immediately.

Daleks was 7 parts. So it was cut even more than you thought. The mix on the audio was the main complaint I had. One nitpick I have is they should have either left the console greenish or NOT left the floor blue. The floor was blue for the same reason the console was green. There were omni versions of most stories that existed in full before 1993. Lionheart Distribution sent those cuts to PBS stations in the US starting around 1986 or so through the mid 90's. I saw many episodes for the first time like that. I like the original version with the cliffhangers better. One of the first things I did with my collection (after I had everything I could get of the classic series) was to get original versions and orphaned episodes. That's when I discovered reconstructions.
Great point on how Gods are defined in the Doctor Who universe. I'm reminded about the rules for gods work in the marvel universe. in marvel, they distinguish gods and cosmic beings by saying that gods get more power the more they are worshipped. This is clearly very different than the doctor who universe.
Just a quick pickup, was it just me or did anyone else think Fifteen's blankety thing he was wearing was reminiscent of Four's scarf? I wonder if that was a deliberate nod.
Anubis was the Jackal headed god of death in ancient Egyptian mythology, not Sutekh. The original organic head design was flawed but much closer to the real god Set (Sutekh). Set (Sutekh) was not a dog!
Overall I think they did a pretty decent job of omni bussing the serial, it went along at quite a balanced pace, I can see modern viewers having their interest held, and thankfully cut out a lot of the earlier organ playing that seemed to go on forever in the original. Having seen the original many a time, I was mildly miffed they removed Sarah's line about the Doctor's shoes, though I understand it doesn't add anything to the story. The puzzles missing from the end Mars expedition made the ending a little bit flat, seemed to suggest that Doctor Who is just about people running and walking through corridors. 🤔🤔😁😁 I feel like some of the shots have been remastered, the whole thing seemed crisper and brighter than I remember, so that was nice. They stayed true to the 1980s reveal which was a big plus for me. The soundtrack was pretty good too, not like the Daleks in colour, the score for that was horribly intrusive. My only gripe, and this is a nerdy gripe rather than an actual one, is the changing of the space time vortex to something akin to the title sequence, it felt a bit bland compared to the original technicolour version. And digitally removing both the cushion AND the hand of Sutekh! Sacré bleu!! I actually had to pause, and rewatch it, do my eyes deceive me? I would agree that this was vast improvement on the terrible job they did with the daleks, but it niggled a little to lose that moment when the Doctor mentions Victoria, as it is a great juxtaposition when he goes aloof as a timelord moments later. I think they missed a great chance to perhaps bring back Tom Baker and have him lead the story in, possibly as mentioned below with Luke. However that would really put this Doctor in the shadows.
