Thank you for this video. It was very helpful to watch you go through the process. I’m about to apply for CLI’s for my Discover It Cad, BIU and Navy Federal More Rewards Cards. Let’s see what happens for me.
I requested a LOWERING of my MGM branded Mastercard. Since I go to Vegas often enough that my rooms are comped, drinks, etc. I only use this card on Vegas related items, gas, food, a show and the like. Lowering the limit to only 3K prevents me from going nuts and contemplating staying another week or doing something stupid. Just enough credit to have a great time for a few days and go home. It DOES throw them off a bit when you call and tell them you want to lower your limit. It took an agent, a supervisor and a search through the rule book to get it done, but it can be done.

I have two freedom flex cards because I product changed my chase slate over to a freedom flex. It's generally smart to apply for a new freedom card before doing this so that you can take advantage of the welcome offer. If I would have product changed my slate to the freedom flex earlier, it would have prevented me from applying for my second freedom flex because Chase does not allow new applications for the card once you already have it. @@joshua.butler thanks for the info. Very informative. I’m going to try getting my limits raised too after seeing this but first I’ll need to freeze my credit.
Random question: you got a video on airline miles cards and which are the best? Thinking of getting a Delta one for the miles benefit but not sure if worth it.
I originally had 11k on my CFF which requested a credit line decrease to 5k back in may this year as I am adding an AU that I can't fully trust financially. I am near 100% utilization right now as I still have half a year of 0% Apr and just tried requesting the CL increase. With the same income provided as my original application, no luck to even going back to the original 11k limit. They probably don't like to see such high utilization before the request 😂
Interesting situation! Thanks for sharing it. I'll make sure to include this type of information in future videos. Chase doesn't allow for spend limits for authorized users, but some other card issuers DO have this feature...Amex being one of those issuers. You'd think Chase would have this seemingly simple feature, but 🤷♀️. It would have been nice for you to have been able to set a spending limit rather than having to reduce your credit line. And yeah, you're right, they probably aren't approving the increase due to the utilization %.
It's not really possible to have too much available credit. However, like I mentioned in another comment reply, credit issuers may have caps in how much available credit THEY are willing to offer you. If you reach their cap, they will typically allow you to pull available credit from one of your other cards issued by them.
This is a really cool video! Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'll take your advice to not try this at home, at least until I get my income up haha
No, in general, available credit will only be beneficial. Credit issuers may have caps in how much available credit THEY are willing to offer you. If you reach their cap, they will typically allow you to pull available credit from one of your other cards issued by that issuer.
Ridiculous video! I bet if you would have let those other hard pulls go through, you applied for the second credit union card, AND if you wait the 30 days per card to increase the rest of your chase cards, you would easily be over 345k to edge out Stan! I’m working towards having 100k+ in personal credit line and 50k+ business so I’m never over 10% utilization on either side. I was crying when the rep was reading you the terms and you did the slow zoom in 😆 Gotta love CJ! I want you or Stan to hit 500k! Love your content. - Ivan
Oh man... if I went absolutely nuts and didn't care about hard pulls, you're right, I probably could've hit 345+. I was still a little hesitant in asking for too much lol. But now 500k is the goal, so let's see if we can hit it!!! Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for being here, Ivan. 😍
Does this affect your ability to sign up for new credit cards as you are pretty much at almost 2x credit limit for your annual income? I heard banks do not like to extend new credit to customers if they already have credit that is over 50% of annual income.
Banks will typically have a maximum limit they’re willing to extend you based on your credit profile and income. However, I wouldn’t be concerned about this because they generally allow you to pull available credit from your cards in order to open a new one if you’re at that maximum. For instance, when I was younger and opened my second Bank of America card, my first card had a $26k limit. In order for them to let me open the second card, they made me pull $4k of available credit from the first card to put towards the second card.
Hello, Josh. I was totally unaware Chase removed the Hard Pull for CLIs. Does it make a difference how you request the CLI? Some banks will hard pull you if you call in and speak with a rep, but won't hard pull you if you request the CLI in the app. Thank you.
Hey! As far as I’m aware, it doesn’t matter how you request it. It’s always a good idea to freeze your credit to prevent any unwanted surprises, however.

That's a great question. If I had a $1500 credit limit, I would probably request that it be doubled or tripled. This will depend on your credit history and income, however. It's possible for them to make a counter offer if they can't increase your limit to what you had requested. They may require a hard pull for credit line increase requests over a certain amount. If you want to avoid a hard pull, make sure to freeze your credit before making the request.
