    Thank you very much for the video! Now that i understand the process, i can make my cab + mic combos into irs! This was the most informative video I've seen yet :D

    Thank you for this! I’m hoping to start messing with some tone-matches soon to use in my Helix! This was super easy to follow!

    Interesting video! At first I thought you would be capturing the sound of the room of the guitar!
    It's confusing to me sampling a small part of a solo. If frequencies are just notes, and you only sample one note, the matching EQ will only hear that one note (frequency). Then you will apply that EQ setting (which is only based on one frequency) to your entire guitar tone (which is a full range of frequencies). It seems like for this to genuinely work, you'd need a sample recording of much more frequency information.
    Am I missing something?

      +Timothy Henderson Each note consists of multiple frequencies unless it is a synth playing sine waves. I know it seems strange at first, but if you want to read about it look up the harmonic series. Also you can easily see it if you use a frequency analyzer.

    The only bit of this I really don't get is where exactly to cut off the beginning of the sound - where you do so seems to make an *enormous* difference to the end result, but it's not really obvious where to do it.

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its best to cut it off at the beginning of the sound. If you cut it off in the middle the frequency response will be changed.

    It is better to do low and high filters before exporting de IR or may it work by using the IR Loader low and high pass filters?

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Either is fine, but many IR loaders will normalize the IR, so if you don't do high and low cuts(especially low) it will decrease the volume.

    Have you or someone experienced that the exported IRs are kind of low volume/gain? I mean, I need to add several dBs on my cab loader. What would be a good way to have the IR exported with more volume? Thank you in advance.

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can try to manually increase the volume in you DAW by just increasing the volume and resaving it. Make sure you don't clip the output though.

      @@hernan_93 You can do it through your DAW by just using the normalize function or turning the volume up manually. You don't need a special plugin.

    I don’t know if this was a feature back when this video was made, but MfreeformEQ has a “save as IR” feature where you can save the spectrum as an IR right there in the plugin. Is there a reason, potentially from your experience, that you would prefer to run a test tone through the spectrum externally rather than export the spectrum right there inside MfreeformEQ when looking for the most accurate possible IR match?

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. You are correct that now you can just hit that button. After I made this video I requested that feature, so now it is faster and easier. There isn't really a reason to use this method now. AFAIK they should be there same. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you for this easy to follow tutorial!
    Question for you: what happens when the original guitar tone has a lot of reverb or some effects on it? Do you need to try to recreate those effects on the target tone before matching or after matching?

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't have to, but in some cases it might help. I would usually do it dry, but try it both ways and see what works better for you. Thanks for watching.

    why you turn off the IR on s-gear?

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you leave the IR on it will only alter the sound of the IR, so you'll need the S-gear IR and the matched IR. If you do it the way I show in the video you can use the matched IR by itself.

      @@Chandlerguitar if i want the same artist tone that i want..do i need to find out which amp their using than i can match the irs?

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need the exact amp they are using, but you do need a similar amp. If your amp is clean and what they used is heavily distorted it won't work. The amps have to be somewhat close, at least gain wise. They don't have to be exactly the same, but in the same ballpark.

    How would I go about making a Pickup IR? Maybe some research for ya😉

    • @Chandlerguitar
      @Chandlerguitar  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You'd need to send an impulse(sine sweep, etc) directly through the pickup. It could be done, but I don't have the equipment or time to do it. Also it might only work with certain pickups. If someone does it I'd love to check it out.

      same as a cab in this video

  • @kdakan
    @kdakan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think you will be getting a true impulse response from an eq, they work differently. Yes it can offer an ir file but it will not be dynamic sounding with a true response as a real ir offers. IR is a series of micro delays on specific frequencies, creating a very detailed comb filter in effect. A real ir is created by recording the response of thousands of micro pulses on the medium, whether it is a cab, room, or an instrument. Match eq cannot and does not capture this detail, because the input is two complex audio files (source and target)
