@ Cake tip. Go to the Sugar Spun Run channel. She makes a reverse cream chocolate cake that creates the most excellent cake with fresh milled soft white. She titled it The BEST Chocolate Cake. I used 125g per cup for wheat berry weight. No other adjustments needed.
Just bought this with your link. Thanks for the discount. Can't wait for it! I've been getting fresh milled flour from a local bakery, but it'll be nice to do it at home with the grains I want.
I purchased one for each of my sons for early Christmas. They want to start milling their flour. I was so happy that they were interested in making this change. I got to use your code on each one. Yea!
@GrainsInSmallPlaces I also sent them a link to your channel and shared this video with them. Thank you for all your videos, information, and wonderful recipes.
I just picked up two for my daughters in law. It would only let me use your discount code for one of them so I did two seperate orders and that worked. I did have to manually enter your discount code on the second one though. Just FYI to others that may want to order more than one. Thank you!
Thanks for the discount code! I just ordered mine! I am so excited! I also bought your cookbook. Thank you for helping me as I learn to make healthier bread products for my family.
Love seeing them side by side. I have a harvest and LOVE it but I’m trying to convince people and this is a great new option and a great video I can just share with them. Also got my book - it’s FANTASTIC! 😊
Thanks for this in depth demo. I put your 'Grainy', $20 discount code on a few other NutriMill video channels (not other content creator channels) and I subbed. Oh, and I bought this grain mill using your $20 'Grainy' coupon code, thanks for that. You're adorable and looking forward to your videos new and old.
Just for size reference- The countertop that I have my mills on is not a standard depth countertop (mine is only about 13 inches deep, which is close to half the depth of a normal countertop in a house), so on a normal kitchen counter there would be room to keep the mill from being pushed all the way to the wall. I hope that makes sense.
Received my new mill. It's put together nicer than the Wondermill but sadly doesn't grind as fine. Less noise, more compact. The switch settings only change the size of the opening for the grain to feed, at least that's what it looks like. If you don't need really fine flour it seems like a good choice.
Really? I have been loving the flour it has produced. I have made buns, bread, biscuits, and cupcakes all without sifting, and been very happy with the results. However, I have never used the Wondermill to compare.
I love your channel and truly appreciate all I’ve learned, so please don’t take offense to my question. I’m curious WHERE you keep all these mixers (and mills)? I live in a 1100 square foot house and barely have room for the essentials let alone multiples of items. I’m genuinely curious. 😊
Lol, we definitely live a more minimalistic life with most things, so not a lot of stuff, besides the kitchen! LOL. Somehow we make it all work, my husband is also really god at Tetris! LOL
I guess it would depend on the setup of your kitchen/milling area. I didn't find it to be difficult, but if there was another large appliance on both sides that could make it more so. But, you could also place it with the side facing you as well. The countertop that I have my mills on is not a standard depth countertop (mine is only about 13 inches deep, which is close to half the depth of a normal countertop in a house), so on a normal kitchen counter there would be room to keep the mill from being pushed all the way to the wall. I hope that makes sense.
Yes, I think that is cool too! But, if you see in the video I struggled with this because that's a huge no-no with my Harvest grain mill that I have been using for years! lol
@@GrainsInSmallPlaces I understand that would be hard to change thinking. I also like how the canister fits into the mill. The canister on my Wondermill has popped off before, making a mess. It doesn’t fit in as securely as this one. Also, the detachable cord is a huge plus imo. The Wondermill cord comes out the front and is awkward to get it out of the way. It annoys me every time I mill. I think this a great mill. The only downside, the knob in the back.
Could you please tell me what a cup of freshly milled flour should weigh? I’ve been trying to do 2/3 cup wheat berries equals 1 cup freshly milled but I seem to always end up with extra flour milled and never sure if I should use or freeze leftover for another use?Thank you
I have a printable PDF of a flour conversion chart here that should help. grainsinsmallplaces.net/grains-in-small-places-printable-library/ I like to just weigh my wheat berries in grams for the amount of flour that I need for the recipe, and that will give me that weight of flour. For example, if I weigh 100g of wheat berries, that should give me 100g of flour. This is not the same for volume, in other words, 1 cup of wheat berries does not equal 1 cup of flour. I hope this helps! Happy Baking!
hi Kara, you mentioned that this mill has no dust, that would be such a winner for me. Have you found that to be true, I have a wondermill and when I separate them there is all kinds of dust from the lid and the little pipe thing you attach the bowl to. Thank you for getting back to me. I want to order one, but would love it to replace the wonder mill. suzie
There is no dust during milling at all. I have not noticed dust when separating the bin from the mill, only some dust when pouring the flour out into a bowl. But, you could avoid this by scooping the flour out. I hope that helps! :)
@@GrainsInSmallPlaces Thank you Kara for getting back to me. I am so enjoying your cookbook! Please tell me you have already started another one! Thank you suzie
I'm not experienced (have just done a little) milling and baking and I want to learn more and get better. I have a Mockmill. How does that rate in your opinion and what mill does the best at getting grains the most like AP flour that you buy in the store? I realize it's not going to be exactly that fine but I'm not sure the Mockmill is doing as well as some others might do. Thank you!
I have not personally tried the Mockmill, but others seem to be happy with theirs. However, I have been very happy with my Harvest Grain Mill for years! There is a learning curve, and I have a video to help get fine flour with it. Once you do that it is go! AH! Big question: What is the coarsest it can do popcorn (or dent/field corn)? My WonderMill doesn't make corn meal, it makes corn flour even set for coarse.
Just want to make sure, since it sounded iffy: Of course my sprouted wheat will be completely dried before I grind it into flour. Will this machine work for that?
On grains and grit channel she showed it but she loved but a few things she didn't like that the whole wouldn't be covered after the hopper was off I suggested a bowl cover or a towel or top to keep bgs and dust out
Yes you can mill both. I mill rice and hard white wheat in this video. I will consider a video for other grains in the future, but I don't really ever mill corn, because my daughter is sensitive to it.

Maybe, but it doesn't have to sit all the way to the back of the counter, or can be sat to the side. My counter makes it look like it is bigger than it is, but my counter is an RV counter that is half the depth of a normal house countertop.
@ For sure! I’m just getting my feet wet and didn’t want to invest in a pricey mill yet so this mill is perfect. I actually talked myself into a manual one first just in case of a grid meltdown, 😆 now I regret it.
Both do a great job, so it depends on each person's preference and price point. This Impact mills a bit cooler, and has stainless steel blades, it can mill the same grains as the stone mill.
What I really want to see is the milling stones themselves and know what they are made of. Tough to get through this video not get info that I want/need. Bummer.
@@GrainsInSmallPlaces I had to go to the Nutrimill website to find that out. It is a very unique fascinating grinding mechanism made out of stainless steel and your rice flour looks really fine. I bought a corundum stone mill and it continues to shed stone bits pretty significantly and is not "wearing in". I don't know if it is toxic or not, but it is an unacceptable level of grit in my flour. So, stainless steel looks pretty good to me. You can do wet or oily seeds with stainless steel too. Things like sesame seed butter or soaked corn for masa. If you do a follow up that goes beyond unboxing, it would be interesting to see those things.
I feel the same way. A grain mill in every home.

@ my hardcover cookbook gets delivered tomorrow.
On your new grain mill what would you do corn on if you wanted to make cornbread or would you use a stone mill for corn?
The new Impact mill I would mill at the 3-4 dial unless you want it more coarse like for grits.
I like that you can put the grain in right away. My wonder mill you have to turn it on first then add the grain.

I don't really mill corn, because my daughter is sensitive to it, but the level 7 milling of wheat was kind of like cream of wheat.
I have the Nutrimill Classic - can it mill the same grains that this one can?
I believe the list of grains is comparable, yes.
Just want to make sure, since it sounded iffy: Of course my sprouted wheat will be completely dried before I grind it into flour. Will this machine work for that?
yes, as long as they are completely dried. They just don't want anyone milling anything with moisture in it. :)

The main difference is size. The Classic is a bit bigger and can mill more flour at a time.
It's a great review. What I don't like about it is it's 16 inches long and the dial is on the back of the machine which is counter intuitive...

@@GrainsInSmallPlaces actually the Harvest doesn’t handle corn very well. And popcorn is a NO!
Does't that Mill work just like the Nutrmill Classic? The NC is an impact mill also.
Yes it does. It’s just smaller and therefore less expensive.
It is similar, but holds a little less flour/grain. Both are great mills!
:)
On the classic it has a cup attached to the lid where flour goes into. Does this one have something like that?
The hopper does not have a lid/cover, but the little hole where the grain goes in at the bottom of the hopper is closed when not in use.
I would love to see a comparison between this one and the classic
It is similar to the Classic grain mill, it is just a bit smaller.
I just ordered one it won't be in till fir

Yes, the classic is also an impact mill, but it is a bit larger, and a little more expensive.
