Can't wait to try adding rye to my starter. I have a whisper mill old school. Sounds like a plane taking off...cracks me up they named it the whisper mill.
I bought a Harvest 1/23 and used it about 3 weeks but sent it back. The flour was very fine but my husband had to tighten it for me. (Arthritic small hands and too difficult for me) Also early on it became gummed or glazed up and had to be turned upside down to empty which was messy and awkward. And there was a wood defect on the spout. So that clenched it. Bought the Mockmill 100 and that suits me better. So glad it works for you. Great to have a wood, stone mill in this price range.
I love that there is something different for everyone! For anyone reading this in the future, if it gums up (that happened to me with a bad batch of spelt) you can run about 2 cups of dry rice through it and that should fix the issue!
I mill every day. Feed my sourdough starter with fresh ground rye and AP flour. And at least twice a week bake bread, bagels, English muffins or rolls. Not tried adjusting so that I can mill dent corn for cornmeal but on my radar. That is one thing that was really easy (to adjust for) with the Harvest.
I have the mockmill but it’s nice to see some of the same things go with most mills. I also ‘accidentally’ found out how to open and reset my stones and levels when it bound up. Lol. Great job!
I started with the KitchenAid one, too. I experienced the same issue with my mixer motor getting too hot. I gifted it to my son. I purchased the exact same red NutriMill, and I love it. My mixer is now happy to only mix my bread dough.
Thanks for the information about these mills! I am currently moving into an RV and was looking for this exact info for a mill. ❤️ Also thanks for the heads up about the sound regarding the classic. I literally just got mine in and was concerned about the size and noise level,
Great video. I needed a quick review to make sure it was the grain mill I thought it was. It has been awhile since I was exploring mills. An "open box" Harvest Nutrimill Mill became available on ebay at 2am, right before I was off to bed. Your video sealed the deal. Perfect info answering my q's. (This should be quicker and make a finer flour than the steel mill attachment I have been using on my Ankarsrum mixer for over four years.) Thanks again and again!
I just ordered a refurbished Harvest the other day. I have been trying to score a mill for weeks now after using my Vitamix dry container for a few months (it works, but not as fine as I'd like). I hope I like this machine. My friend lent me her Classic for a week to try. I liked that too, but like the small footprint of the Harvest. I'm glad to know they have great customer service too. Hopefully it ships soon!
First time visiting your channel… needed confirmation I was making the right purchase (been eyeing the Nutrimill for a while). I liked your presentation and even chose to use your link rather than some of the bigger channels. 💚 I’m Anna from Mimsy’s Garden channel. Glad I found you! I’ll be back to try some of your recipes!
I too live in my travel trailer. My husband and myself. I am looking for a grinder that fits out lifestyle. It looks like this may be the one. I’ve been looking at the Mock mill 100 but I already know the noise is going to get to me plus the foot print. This one looks like a perfect size. Now speaking of size, I made a place for my Ankerscrum . I love that thing!! ❤❤❤❤ Thank you for doing this video. The only thing I’m concerned about is I’m hearing people say it gets gummed up , so I’m a little taken back by that. Yet, the smaller size and the lesser noise almost has me sold on it. Plus, it’s so pretty😊😊😊😊
I love my Mill! The only time I have ever had my mill gum up was with some grain that had too much moisture in it. Then, I just ran dry rice through it, and it was all clean, and it worked perfectly after that!
@@GrainsInSmallPlaces I heard you say that in your video and I was elated because like I said, I was so bummed hearing some comments and I really wanted to like this mill. So thank you for giving a solution , also, I ordered one in black and use the code "grainy" that you gave us and yaaaaaaaay it's processing now and I should be getting it next week. Very exciting. I did like, Shared, commented and anything else you asked, lol, so who knows, maybe I'll win but if I don't, it's all good♥️ Blessings♥️
It mills very fine, however with fresh milled flour there will still be the bran and the germ which is what is sifted out for store bought white flour.
I don't have a recipe, but I need to get that on my list. You want to mill it more on the course setting, But, really it is all about your preference of texture. 😊
Seems like this mill is a bit fussier than the nutrimill classic (which I own). The one I own can mill all grains, including popcorn, and I load that puppy up with loads of grain. I was tempted to get this Mockmill look a like, but I think I’ll pass. You did a fine job representing this product though! Thank you
My mill is a standard mill, I can mill a double batch of bread worth of grain without an issue. I haven't tried more than that, so it may be capable of more. I don't really have a milling zone, because of my small space. So, I just have my mill on my counter, weigh out my wheat berries for my recipe, grab a bowl and mill that amount of flour. If you weigh your wheat berries, that will give you the same weight of milled flour (This is not the same for volume, 1 cup does not equal 1 cup, but 100g will equal 100g) I hope that makes sense.
@@GrainsInSmallPlacesWell… I would like to gift you with 2 brand new pans from USA pans. In my cooking class at college we made them and I have fond memories!!! If you ‘d them that is

Yes, I used to have that attachment, it just doesn't get the grain fine enough, and it overworks the KA, then it needs to rest before kneading. A stand alone mill was necessary for me!
Why do you not talk about the swoosh located on the black base of the knob. It makes all the difference knowing where to start and stop depending on how fine you want your flour. It takes alot of the learning curve out of it when you first get started.
@@GrainsInSmallPlaces I still think it is a great tool to have. It was such a game changer to have some idea of where to start and stop the milling process. I watched a lot of videos from different channels before I even purchased my mill in November. No one said a thing about the swoosh. I seized that mill up right from the start. Very frustrating. Now I use the swoosh and the sound. I have been much happier milling.
Yes, there was a HUGE influx of purchases that they didn't expect around the holidays. They do expect them to be back in stock in March, just not sure of the exact date yet.

Lol, that is an ironic name! 😆 Yes, the Rye should give it a boost!

Yes, sourdough really does love that Rye! Thanks!😀
7:23 not only bigger footprint but my Classic is much louder. We compared it to being on a aircraft carrier.

Does the fine setting mill rice to the store bought consistency of bread or pastry flour?
It mills very fine, however with fresh milled flour there will still be the bran and the germ which is what is sifted out for store bought white flour.

Do you have a recipe for cream of wheat? And how to mill it?

Can you mill cinnamon sticks ,nutmeg , thing on that line in this mill ?
Great question. No, things like cinnamon, nutmeg, nuts, and oily seeds are recommended to not mill in it.

Is yours a high capacity?
Also can you please makes video on how you set up your kitchen zone for milling?.

Thanks for the tip! I just always go by sound, because it seems everyone's mill is just a tad different. :)

I'm torn between the harvest and the classic. I guess I'll have some time to think about it. Lol
