Today, I sold my Kitchen Aid stand mixer, it did not do very well mixing the bread dough, or cookie batter. I was using it because it's all I had. I ordered the NutriMill Artiste Kitchen Electric Stand Mixer, and it should be here soon. Of course, I'm so excited. Thank you for such great videos.
We have the Artiste and I'm very happy with it. It has plenty of power. With the savings over Bosch, we got the slicer/shredder. It is a real time saver. We bake about twice a week.
I’m on team Bosch and have been for 20 years. My mom raised us on fresh milled flour and had an old wooden magic mill in the 1970s. She and my 5 older sisters had Bosch mixers and gifted me my first one. My son now has that one and I have another one. Many of my extended family members have the old style Bosch mixers from the 70s and 80s that work like new still. We are a large family of bread bakers and all mill our own grains. Love your channel. Love your recipes too!
I bought the Artiste after I saw yours. I just got the black Bosch, always loved this brand. I bought my mom, over 20yrs back, an Ankarsrum; found out, not long ago, that she never used it, so I have that too.
I would have chosen a Bosch if I could have afforded it. I have an Artiste because I couldn’t wait another year or more to save for a Bosch. I am very happy with my purchase. I have time to bake bread or other whole wheat recipes at least twice a week so the capacity is not as much an issue. My favorite cookbook is still Breadbeckers Red Book! I like your bread recipe as well Felicia!
You forgot to mention that both mixers have an optional stainless steel bowl, if you want to “upgrade” or want to chill your bowl for whipping cream. Also, both have a optional stainless steel bottom drive bowls, if you’re doing a lot of heavy enriched doughs. There is also an optional all stainless steel dough hook that fits the Artiste. Great information, I just discovered your channel. I love my Artiste!
Thank you so much, Felicia! After many years of using a bread machine to make my dough because I didn't want to kill my old Hobart KitchenAid, I finally bought the Artiste with the recommended attachments! So excited! Used your discount code which I really appreciate! Benn watching you from the beginning and am so thankful for all the great content you work so hard to put out there for us. Happy Thanksgiving!
Excellent video. The best description so far. I really think the Artiste would work for me, but I’ll purchase the Bosch as the quality seems better to me. Thanks for your honest demo it was great. You have answered my questions and now I can make my purchase. Happy Holidays!!
I make one loaf of bread about every other week. lol. It’s just my hubby and I and we try not to eat too much bread. I currently use a bread maker, but made a loaf by hand recently and loved it. For me for now, I will try my Kitchenaid for bread. If I change, I think I would get the Ankerscum. Great video!
I have a Nurtimill mixer and am happy with it. I do use the Family Mill Flaker for Bosch with the Artiste, which is great! The Artiste has footpads on the side for turning it sideways for the flaker - just like with the Bosch- but the Artiste must be propped up when using the flaker because it doesn’t has the round blender part on the back like the Bosch does. I only make 1 loaf of bread at a time and rarely ever make cookies, etc. I also already have a food processor, ice cream maker and more, so Bosch is just overkill for me. Thank you for the comparison!
I make 6 loaves of bread in my Bosch Universal Plus in one batch. I double your 3 loaf recipe. My husband bought me the Bakers pkg. That plaztis thingy is for scrapeing the sides as well as scraping the center
I have had a BOSCH since the early 90s. It is still going strong. i used to decorate cakes and I could use 4 pounds of powdered sugar to make icing. It would have probably tolerated more than 4 pounds. I have always used it to make bread and it is so simple and it does the job. I would not be without it. Mine says it has 700 WATTS . It only has 3 speeds.. Mine came with a blender. It will crush ice to powder. It is an amazing machine. Glad to see they still make quality products. If mine quit today, I could not complain and would definitely invest in another! Thanks for sharing your insight. I do notice that my drive does not just screw out. You have to use an actual screw driver. Mine also has an insert that goes around the drive where you place the dough hooks. But basically it is the same machine. Now what my 700 Watts is compared to the info you shared, I cannot say. I just know that it moves and kneads and makes bread making very simple and consistent!
Great job doing the comparison! You covered a lot of differences people may not consider. Could you please do that same type of comparison between the Bosh and the Ankersham? Thank you so much!
Please note that NutriMill and Bosch are NOT owned by the same company. L'Chef owns NutriMill and has a *distribution licence* for Bosch in the USA. However, Bosch is an independent German company and their home appliances are made in Slovenia in Europe.
I've had my Bosch stainless with the blender for roughly 20 years. It was a HUGE investment for us at the time, but I've never regretted it. Now that we're empty nesters, it does aggravate me sometimes to do just one loaf. The extender looks like something that would suit us well. Thank you for the review!
I've been seeing these in my news-feed every day and wondering. Now I know I can buy without fear of making the wrong choice. You've saved me twice now!!!! First my grain mill and now my mixer. Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!
@@GrainsandGrit Any chance you have the accessories to the mixers? Looking at the sale going on and it seems like good pricing for some of them. The food processor attachments and the spiralizer attachments????
Thanks you so much, exactly the info I was looking for. For $199 on sale plus its smaller I may have to go with Artiste, its just my wife and I so I usually don't bake more than 2 loaves a week and 95% of what I would be using it for is bread dough. I could kiss you right on the lips.
Waiting for my Artiste to arrive . I am an empty nester and don’t have freezer space for too many loaves. I will keep my Kitchenaid Pro 6 for cookies and cakes. Thank you, Felicia
Thankyou Felicia love your comparison, especially for us who are considering investing into a mixer. ❤ off this subject I ordered Verena Street coffee and really like it, thanks for the recommendation 🎉 they even gave me a 10 ounce freebie with my order! 😊
Hi so glad I found your channel Question about grains Should we freeze grains before putting them in storage? I have been seeing in facebook groups people having bugs issues
I have the nutrimill but have all the parts for Bosch. Found Bosch at goodwill. The only and the major (of course) is the motor. I wish I could find a motor.
Keep in mind there are several different models of the KitchenAid. I follow another channel, she uses her’s a LOT. I think her’s is the Pro or Commercial. I don’t have a heavy duty one, but still works perfectly for tortillas and cookies with fresh milled flour.
Ah yes, there are many different models of the KA. The key things you need to look at are the motor and the dough capacity. For the first several years, I had a regular stand mixer and it worked well for ONE loaf of bread. Then the motor eventually gave up the ghost and I needed something that could make more than one loaf anyway. I do believe that the heaviness of the dough wore out the motor much faster. For those with a commercial KA, they're probably good. But if you have a smaller one it's possible that making bread with FMF is fine, but it may wear out the motor sooner because of the heaviness of the dough. Also, if you're wanting to make large amounts at once, that can be an issue too. Honestly, work with what you have. Then figure out what you are wanting out of a mixer and choose then!
If you get the stainless steel bowl, does it make a difference in working with the bread dough in any way? I don't want plastic warming and getting into my dough.
I have the commercial KA and use the paddle for my freshly milled doughs, leaving it running for 30 minutes, seems to do very well for 5 breads at a time and I love all the attachments I can get for KA. But who knows maybe the Bosch would do an even better job with kneading.
It’s their 8 qt they call commercial 800.00 not much more than the rest of the new Bosch, I wonder how the mixing would compare. If you can make 5 breads in yours, I’m tempted to try it.
Huge error; The dough hook for the Bosch Universal is not all stainless steel. It is part stainless and part aluminum. The hook arms are stainless and the center scraper and where it hooks on is aluminum. It is not dishwasher safe, nor is the metal drive for the whisks. The aluminum parts will tarnish and leave black streaks on the dough. If that happens you have to scrub it off with things like Brillo pads and/or aluminum cleaner.
I've had my Bosch for sometime. Haven't had a chance to use 😥. Do you have or know how the ice cream mixer? Do you have or any chance you can do a video on it?. Thanks ❤
Because bread dough is rough on normal tilt-head and bowl life stand mixers. As bread dough needs to be kneaded for 8 to 20 minutes (or longer, depending on the type), this can burn out most stand mixers. The Ankarsrum, Bosch, Nutrimill mixers have the bottom-based motor and the strength to properly knead dough and in much shorter time. Thick batters and doughs push regular stand mixers to their limits. It's not that regular top-based stand mixer can't mix bread dough, it's that it can wear the inner gears quicker because of the top motor force and speed. Hope this helps.
@@epluribusunum1978thanks for breaking this down, I have a kitchen Aid and I was pushing it I think, this makes a lot of sense, I will probably have to get one of these mixers very soon
I’m not too sure about the plastic bowls. Have always had a stainless steel bowl. Has the plastic discolored or gotten scratched up with all you do? I’m imagining old Tupperware.
Does the stainless bowl work in either of the ones you compared? Also, you do such a great job and thank you for your love of teaching about grains, health and Bible! God bless you and yours!
I started with the Artiste. It just didn't work out for me. I think I was the exception not the rule. After 5 months I started having problems. Customer service is great and as it turned out I got a refund and bought the Bosch Universal. I've heard great things how people really like their Artiste so therefore I'm sure I just got the exception. I have not regretted my Bosch.
Unfortunately, there are just sometimes flukes. But so glad Nutrimill came through with their customer service! I think we can handle things not working so long as we are treated well as customers :-)
I am totally sold on a Bosch...but the kitchenaid is so much prettier! My mixer lives on my counter,, and I have always had a kitchenaid. The 7qt version shows a 500 watt motor. Has anyone used this successfully for fresh milled flour? I currently have the 5qt and it works fine as long as I only do one loaf at a time. I'd like to upgrade to something with larger capacity, but am so conflicted!
Thank you for the complete comparison between the two! Question about flaking oats, would that be just oat grain or oat groats? I haven’t found a resource with the difference. The Bosch would be the winner for me, love all the attachments. Thanks for the discount!
I bought the Artiste first then sold it to buy the Bosch - I miss the Artiste!! I should have kept it. I hated the Bosch and sold it. Then I bought the Zacme 7.4 quart and so far I love it.
@ the Bosch was more of a bulky unit to move around and the dough did not stay down in the bowl but walked up the middle and made a mess. It was not enjoyable to use….
Felicia, great video for those seeking these types of mixers, however, can we dispense with the KA just doesn’t cut it when using fresh milled whole grain flour nonsense? As with any mixer the horsepower & dough capacity matters and just as the Artiste does not & cannot perform as the Bosch for these reasons, neither can one compare a 4.5/5 qt standard KA with one like mine, the 8qt commercial bowl lift KA that handles fresh milled whole grain bread dough beautifully. Just sayin’, can we at least keep things in perspective & especially with honesty & integrity?
That KA 8 quart commercial bowl probably can handle it well. It's for commercial uses. But , from my Google research, it is WAY more expensive than the Bosch, Artiste, and even the Ankarskrum. When I mention the KA not handling dough well, I'm talking about the typical KA mixers most people have. I can make dough in it, yes, but most of the models don't have a strong enough motor and it's going to wear it out faster and I can't make the large amounts like in my Bosch.
@@GrainsandGrit Very true about the cost of the KA Commercial 8. They raised the price, in April, an extra $150 for both models (one with a safety cage and the one without). I was able to get mine (no cage) for well under $700, but I won't use it for bread dough. I make 2 13 inch Pullman loaves and use only the Ankarsrum for it. I'd kill the Comm 8 otherwise. The 8 is great for everything else, though.
I have a KA 6qt, stripped the worm gear very quickly, husband replaced the gear, it’s not that hard to do but I bought an Ank for my heavy bread dough and it’s fabulous. However for making cakes and other things with batter rather than dough I still love the KA. A commercial KA is a beast, too heavy to move it unless it’s on a cart.
Back in 2020, I really wanted a Bosch, but found a package deal I couldn’t pass up. I got a WonderMill and the WonderMix for less than the Bosch would have cost. I can make 5 loaves at a time so it’s fine for us. However, I’m still planning / dreaming of getting an Ankarsrum.
i replaced a kitchenaid with a nutramill artiste. my eife and i both over heated the unit once, if the bosch has the same size (watts} is there any value to up grade to bosch?
We have had the Bosch mixer for about a year now. I love it, except for one thing. I wish we had never used the "scraper attachment". It works great but it wears on the center column and I feel like maybe we are getting a little bit of plastic in our food. I ordered and just got the stainless steel bowl ($150 with $20 discount thank you Grains & Grit) thinking I would eliminate that plastic center column. But the stainless steel bowl also has a plastic center column. We will keep the stainless steel bowl but we've decided we just won't use the "scraper attachment". I'm not saying don't buy the Bosch, I'm just saying don't use the scraper attachment. I really LOVE the mixer!
Dear Felecia. Your you tube is a ministry. Thank you. So i am going to use spelt for the gut sensitivity . Can i make 6 loaves of bread at a time with spelt? Do you knead spelt? I just ordered the Bosch and now i am second guessing myself.
@ i am just a little confused. So einkorn and spelt are both ancient grain both called spelt sort of little spelt and large spelt. But i am told einkorn does not like to be kneaded and you saying i can? That would be great
@@GrainsandGrit Felicia, once you get the Ankarsrum, it may supplant your Bosch as your bread-making mixer. There is NOTHING like the Ankarsrum. I have one and love it. Once you see how the dough roller works, you're hooked. It's amazing! There is a slight learning curve, but there are numerous videos on YT to show you what to do. I watched them and had no trouble at all the firs time I used it. The Ankarsrum is worth EVERY penny. Plus their customer service is second to none.
My problem with the Bosch is the plastic. It breaks. The middle column has those, I don't know what you call them, the fluted top, those can chip off. My cake paddles became useless the second time I used them because of that. The scraper attachment which is very nice when you're mixing cakes also broke very early on. I love it for bread. I love the lid. I still make cakes , I just use the wire whip attachment. I use the cookie paddles although one of them doesn't spin like it should. I love being able to look down into the bowl. The mixer is a work horse for sure. But I don't like the plastic.
Oh wow, I haven't had those issues at all! So sorry that happened to you. I think it's just hard to get away from plastic these days ha Even the Ankarskrum has plastic with it.
I have a 31 yr old Classic Kitchenaid. Such a reliable workhorse. I’d like to augment with a Bosch or even Anskarum. Are you going to do a video re the Anskarum?
I have an Ank and it’s an amazing machine, I love it. It walks through heavy doughs like nothing. I regularly make 4 loaves at a time, there is room for an even larger batch and it’s so easy. There is a learning curve, lots of vids showing how to use it.
I have the Ank and really love it. I also some of the attachments, the flaker and veg slicer. I use the flaker to make freshly rolled oats to make a fabulous oatmeal.
I think this may be true with the older models of kitchenaid mixers. The newer current models unfortunately have had a lot of their inner quality parts replaced with a newer plastic part. The new manufacturers says you cannot knead bread dough longer than two minutes, same with heavy duty cookie dough. A friend of mine was so excited to finally get her beautiful new kitchenaid. The big one. After making bread a couple of times it burnt out. She sent it in and because of their great warranty they totally replaced it, no questions asked. She went through this four different times with four different mixers. She finally asked for her money back, which they did not want to do. But she was persistent, and they finally refunded her in full. I am not certain which one she bought, I think the artiste. She is single. And bakes bread weekly. So, going by what this review said, could be the reason she decided on the artiste. I am also single. But I am leaning toward the Bosch.
Oh my I hate doing dishes. a dishwasher is a must for me. i would like to grind my own wheat but w just 2 of us & 1 of us liking wonder bread i've given that up
Sure, there are tons of gluten-free grains out there. But you can't make sandwich loaves with them, because gluten is what makes the bread rise. But they make good flat breads. Have you tried 100% freshly milled whole wheat?
I want to encourage you to grind your own flour!! It’s how humanity has been doing it for thousands of years and it’s how God designed us to consume whole grains 😀

I agree with everything @epluribusubnum1978 said!!!
@@epluribusunum1978thanks for breaking this down, I have a kitchen Aid and I was pushing it I think, this makes a lot of sense, I will probably have to get one of these mixers very soon
@@Lovelyhandz Glad to help. It's why I invested in the Ankarsrum. I didn't want to kill my KitchenAid.
I’m not too sure about the plastic bowls. Have always had a stainless steel bowl. Has the plastic discolored or gotten scratched up with all you do? I’m imagining old Tupperware.
Nope. Nothing like the tupperware at all. But you also have the option of buying it with the metal bowl.
Does the stainless bowl work in either of the ones you compared? Also, you do such a great job and thank you for your love of teaching about grains, health and Bible! God bless you and yours!
I believe the stainless steel bowl is just for the Bosch.
Aren’t they the same thing? I flake about groats
You flake oat groats.
@ thank you!
Hello, does either one of these do that stretch and tuck (I think that’s what it’s called) technique while kneading the dough?
Stretch and tuck is a hand-kneading technique.
For the bosh you can not put anything metal in the dishwashers. They are not stainless steel the attachments are coated aluminum.
Thanks for that clarifyer!
I bought the Artiste first then sold it to buy the Bosch - I miss the Artiste!! I should have kept it. I hated the Bosch and sold it. Then I bought the Zacme 7.4 quart and so far I love it.
Why did you like the artiste better than the Bosch?
My daughter large kitchen aid like yours just bit the dust trying to mill fresh ground 3 loaves.
That is a good deal!! Yeah whatever you have, if it's working, stick with it, and one day you can upgrade :-)
i replaced a kitchenaid with a nutramill artiste. my eife and i both over heated the unit once, if the bosch has the same size (watts} is there any value to up grade to bosch?
I would upgrade to the Bosch from the Artiste if you find you want the larger capacity. Otherwise, both motors are great and can handle FMF very well.
Yeah I do like how that is at least optional, unlike the Artiste. So if you just don't want that plastic part, you can do without :-)
Dear Felecia. Your you tube is a ministry. Thank you. So i am going to use spelt for the gut sensitivity . Can i make 6 loaves of bread at a time with spelt? Do you knead spelt? I just ordered the Bosch and now i am second guessing myself.
Oh you can do spelt just fine in the Bosch. It's just a wheat, that's all :-)
@ thank you.
@ i am just a little confused. So einkorn and spelt are both ancient grain both called spelt sort of little spelt and large spelt. But i am told einkorn does not like to be kneaded and you saying i can? That would be great
Bought the ankarsrum a couple of weeks ago. Wise purchase.
I can’t wait to get one.
One of these days I will have one and try it out for myself! lol
@@GrainsandGrit they are worth it! I made bread by hand for years up until 2 weeks ago.
This was helpful, Thank you. One point to know, the stainless steel hook is sold setup separately.
So, can I make a small bread loaf 1 1/2 lb in the Bosch?
Yep
@@GrainsandGrit I’m glad to see this video. I have a similar question: Can the Bosch handle dough of about 300g to 350g?
Can the Artiste make pie crust?
Yep!
@GrainsandGrit awesome. Thanks.
I have a 31 yr old Classic Kitchenaid. Such a reliable workhorse. I’d like to augment with a Bosch or even Anskarum. Are you going to do a video re the Anskarum?
If I get an Ank, you better believe there will be a video !
I have an ank I can mix in one batch, enough dough for 7 loaves of bread! No kidding!its amazing!!!!
Both of them can make butter without having buttermilk sprayed throughout your kitchen!
Oh my I hate doing dishes. a dishwasher is a must for me. i would like to grind my own wheat but w just 2 of us & 1 of us liking wonder bread i've given that up
Wonder bread? Oh my, there's absolutely no nutrition in that stuff!
Why if your gluten allergy. I would love to see gluten free fresh bread recipe
Sure, there are tons of gluten-free grains out there. But you can't make sandwich loaves with them, because gluten is what makes the bread rise. But they make good flat breads. Have you tried 100% freshly milled whole wheat?
I have a Bosch....maybe 1980? 1981?.... still chugging!
That’s awesome!
you seem like a nice lady but Im confused as to why you ran a review without us ever having us see it loaded or being used?
I just use my bread machine to make my bread dough. I don't have plans to grind my own flour.
I want to encourage you to grind your own flour!! It’s how humanity has been doing it for thousands of years and it’s how God designed us to consume whole grains 😀
Neither, I use a KitchenAid.
I find a standard KA mixer just isn't up to making regular batches of bread dough.
