- The commonest cause of a very thick mucus which is black in colour along with soreness in the throat and cold and cough is because of regular smoking. If you are a regular smoker, you take in a lot of carbon with chemicals, this gets deposited in the lung and in the process of healing itself the body tries to remove these carbon particles and the chemicals. So it starts pushing it out of the lungs. So it comes to the throat and it starts irritating the throat leading to inflammation, chemical induced inflammation causing soreness not as bad as what we would have during infection, but not as bad as tonsillitis or pharyngitis, but it makes you constantly clear the throat. Constant clearing will lead to this thick mucus which is back in color because of the presence of carbon particles in it. rare cause could be some bleeding inside the respiratory tract maybe because of a past infection or because of a tuberculosis or some other lung infection, there has been some other bleed inside the lungs which got stored inside in the form of blackish colour or at some point if you are coughing, it can get dislodged and come in contact with the mucus and give a black colour. If there is a constant black color excess in quantity for a long time, it is better to consult a doctor and get the problem sorted out.

How could I induce some mild bronchitis like I was in the ICU on a ventilator ? Cause for two days I cough up large amount of black tar and it was the best feeling in the world for my lungs, feels like I un clogged my respiratory ways.

I recently quit smoking and have been coughing up a lot of blackish/greyish phlegm. Everything you mentioned was right even down to how annoying the itch in my throat is.

I remember I had these same symptoms but I don’t smoke nor do my immediate family members smoke. I had just ate and immediately got a sore throat. After that I started spitting out black mucus that would build in the back of my nasal cavity I know it was building there because I would be able to feel it move down when I wanted to spit some mucus out. Eventually my sore throat went away but the black mucus prevailed so one day I did the regular spitting of mucus and a huge black colored mucus ball came out and the problem was fixed immediately.

It happened to me after I burned some papers in my room and all the smoke stayed in there for like five minutes. Ever since I did that, I’ve been spitting black phlegm (for the past week and a half). 😬I even had to stop smoking cannabis, because it was also exacerbated by that.😔

I used to do blunts and wood only then I switch to joint to be “healthier” and stated having sore and light phlegm in the morning and I would just brush my teeth real good now a year later on just joints I got really sick from my throat where I even lost my voice one better I smoked a blunt and was ok then a week later smoke a joint and a roach joint and shit came back the very next day

Are you ok now
I was having a severe cold for a week and that started causing pain on my sinuses (right side cheek, eye, tooth ) alose phelgm was having some redcolor lines in it. So I went to see doctor, he put some injection and some tablets, right next day the face pain gone but after 5 days from doctor visit, there were similar kind of face pain I started getting from left half of my face and when I chock the phelgm was in light black color and some time thick black color. I approached doctor again and he was concerned and asked me to take CT-scan of cheast & PNG. Today I gonna collect scan report and will re-consult with doctor.
Note: I used to smoke on and off but since last 10 days not smoking. Also now I am not having any soreness on throut or nasal path.. feeling like normal but when I see something is on my throut I am chocking it out and that is in black color.

@@ladnasmith6421 this happends when cold become very severe. CT chest scan was normal and Synus scan was showing blockage in 3 out of 4 which was the primary reason for my problem. Right after I was taking some medication for couple of days then all become normal.
Note: The day I went for CT scan and Synus scan was the last day I chocked black phlem. From that day onwards I was not spitting phelm. But I see that as an opportunity to know the status of my lung.

@@induparmar3144 i think you should get yours it checked mine got better within hour, i think main reason was because in my home we have temple placed and our priest used different type of oil which i happened to inhaled while i was around the surrounding so I guess because of that and other reasons could be because of the pollution

@Sling Shot 23 Beatz I’m sure I started suffering from this because I used to smoke half flower/ half tobacco bong rips the whole summer of 2017. I stopped using tobacco soon after because itd start to give me anxiety. Ofcourse for the past 3 years I’ve pretty much been smoking flower everyday which can cause the build up of this black phlegm. I thought getting my tonsils removed would help but right now as I’m in the first week of recovery from that surgery, I’m still coughing up that shit and it’s preventing me from recovering as fast because you can’t be spitting loogies when you’re healing from a tonsillectomy. As much as it will make you gag you have to swallow it. But unlike other people I spit out black phlegm that smells like fucking ass when it’s up at my throat and I have no choice but to force that shit out. I’m really tired of this shit and I’m stopping smoking flower today and doing cleanses at least until I don’t see that shit anymore. I spit this shit out about every 5 min. It’s hard to be in a restaurant because I can’t enjoy a meal without getting up to go the restroom because this taste in my mouth is bothering me and I obviously don’t want to taste that with my food I’ll gag. I hope you’ve improved though

I stoped smoking for a week and after that I started feeling better. When the symptoms started that shit scared me so much because I thought I had like lung infection or cancer or something 😂 I feel safer knowing that it happens to more people than I know and it’s not something that serious. Since all other comments were from years ago I thought no one could help. Thanks :)
