Everything you do is rich in design, rich in execution! Whoever buys this house is going to have quality and style that will last many, many years as they make it their home.
I have done some woodworks in the past but this woodwork plan th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG helps me do much in a far lesser time than i used to do i have already built several projects with this plan and i intend to do many more soon. Thank you so much!
From the UK....I'm well impressed with your efforts!! I'm getting ready to make a handrail for my stairs and I'll be incorporating your ideas in my work..!!
Ana, I'm a big fan, but I'm not sure about this. It's gorgeous, but I'm not sure it's sturdy enough for stair and balcony rail. Attaching the top rail into end grain, using flatbar with a lot of flex, only attaching the verticals with a couple of screws each...I dunno. I'm in Tennessee, and I doubt this would pass codes here. Kids are going to climb anything that looks like a ladder if they catch Mommy not looking, and I would be uneasy about the lateral load that this rail could handle.
I like the black lines that the metal makes, Ana, both the diagonal lines and the horizontal lines. I think this feature adds to the beauty of the space, without making anything feel closed in. Well done.
Amazing stairs and rails. The whole house looks European - Swedish Inspired. When I saying European I mean it as a compliment to you Ana for having great taste while making it affordable. The stairs and rails look amazing.
Good, complementary idea, Sue. Your eyes would naturally follow in the door and up the stairs. Nice look on its own for porch or deck, also! Ana & Jacob do rock.
Hi Ana! I saw your video on making the Christmas Shelf and I made that. It really is a good, quick project. I am on your channel and watched 1 video and I'm blown away as to why didn't I think of that, lol. I've immediately subscribed, can't wait to try a bunch oh these projects. Thank you for graciously sharing your knowledge and designs, I will also share your channel to all the amateur woodworkers I talk with!
I don't like the horizontal rails because my kids would climb them like a ladder and fall to their death. But I think the flat metal would look just as great and be just as easy to install going vertically, on an angle, in a chevron pattern, or a barn door x! So thank you Ana & Jacob for an idea I can modify to my comfort level.
That looks awesome... no need to apologize for how the stair rails could be done better... sure they could be made fancier, that's true for most things... But as you said, it's a starter home, but honestly it's a very good home, I wouldn't mind living there (it's better than my "starter home" I'm living in... so who says it has to be high-end to be livable? It's a home! And beautifully well done.
Wow I love it... I have a older home built in 1980. I love the modern farmhouse look... we’ve put in new flooring a new bathroom & laundry room... do you think this type of railing would be too modern for my home? It looks great y’all do beautiful work.
IMO it would look great! Paint the wood white and keep the metal flat black. Do something fun and put the metal on an angle, in a chevron pattern, or a barn door x!
I love this. Since I have kids and the metal pieces are a bit thin, I would add sheets of acrylic plastic to the front and back so that the metal pieces could not be touched.
Looks real nice. Great Idea. This won’t meet code in my area unless there is an inside handrail that is small enough to wrap a hand around. A 2 x 4 can’t be used as a handrail in our area.
Great stair rail design. Kudos: I appreciate that you always show us up front what you are about to build in your video. I watch even if I have no need for that particular item, because you have always thought through the problem and the methods and designed well.
Looks really good! Besides the number of code violations stated by others - at least in my jurisdiction. I question the structural integrity of the 2x4's on their weak axis when loaded with lateral force. Mean no harm, just my unsolicited opinion. I really do like the design though.
I have another question! I just got the 2x4s and am ready to stain. Did you rub off the Verathane Weathered Wood Accelerator? Or just brush it on and leave it to dry? Also did you use one coat or two? I love the color you achieved and wood like to duplicate it as closely as possible. Also, what brand of paint did you use for the metal strips? Did you use mineral spirits to clean the metal first? Thanks so much for helping me with this. I will post photos of the finished product if that's okay with you.
Hello Ana, hello Jacob. I hope you are doing well? For what or for whom are you building all the houses? Do you rent them out and do your children live in the houses later? That would be interesting. You make it all so beautiful. Greetings Natascha 👍❣
Really nice - and it gives me an idea to make it even more substantial maybe. Could you put another vertical piece of wood on the inside to sort of sandwich the metal in with the vertical wood? Seems like it would make it look more finished.
I followed this video with my handrail design. Upon inspection, the inspector stated that the 2x4 is not a graspable handrail. So excited to rebuild this entire system
Others have modified from the original plan, that may be what you're seeing. Thanks for the visit, here is the full plan www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/modern-farmhouse-diy-staircase-railing
@@wendylambel39 it will without the Rustoleum paint. I tried just using a rust protection coating and it rusted but so far with the paint it looks great.
looks good, but stair rails are primarily a safety feature, so be careful where you cut the budget: flat bar is a little flexible; push one out and pull one in, and you may be able to stick more than a hand through. plus, by attaching it directly to the face of the lumber, you are relying on only the shear strength of the screws to hold it in place. as long as no one rests a foot on it while leaning on the rail, it should be fine, but, i would have preferred setting in in a shallow dado. square tubing in a deeper dado would be even better. also, as someone else mentioned 3 days ago, you've made a ladder for children, albeit, an uncomfortable one, so education on the laws of gravity and motion will be paramount for the little ones.
Wow you just saved me hundreds of bucks, THANK YOU!
Glad I could help!
Everything you do is rich in design, rich in execution! Whoever buys this house is going to have quality and style that will last many, many years as they make it their home.
Right?! This home is beautiful!!
Thank you Juliet!
Ana is so down to earth, just makes what she needs with no enormous shop and staff behind her. Thanks for the free plans Ana, you are a gem 😀
Thank you John:)

I’v been looking for an inexpensive but attractive option for a handrail design in a THOW, and I think you just nailed it!
Great, happy you like it!
Nice! Adding metal to the visual look was genius.
Thanks!
Anna I know you already know this, but you rock. Thank you for sharing your gifts.🍄
You are so welcome:)
So simple but looks amazing. I'm gonna do it in my house. Thank you for sharing the idea.
From the UK....I'm well impressed with your efforts!! I'm getting ready to make a handrail for my stairs and I'll be incorporating your ideas in my work..!!
Wonderful, thanks for watching!
I love this!!! Thank you!! You’re the reason why I’m now a DIYer!!!! Thank you, again!!!
I'm so glad!

Smooth Ana an Jacob I like the simplicity of the railing cool beans have a great week love from TEXAS
Thanks, you too!
For something incredibly simple, it's really beautiful.
Super idea. Try buying the best quality 2x4 sometimes called "clear wood". Fewer knots, rough spots, less bowing.
This is beautiful! We're planning to do a horizontal fence & this would be the perfect way to tie the look to the interior!!!!
That's a great idea!
Looks great
You just showed me a Awsome and cheap way to keep my dogs out of my pool area, thank you so much.👍🇨🇦
Happy to help, please share when you do!
You did it again Ana!! Such a great ideal and inexpensive. I love the railing. I bet that would look good as a porch rail.... stay safe
Good, complementary idea, Sue. Your eyes would naturally follow in the door and up the stairs. Nice look on its own for porch or deck, also! Ana & Jacob do rock.
I think so too!
You guys honestly inspire me every time I watch a video. Just fantastic!
Happy to hear that!
Beautiful. I am going to do this for my sister's home. THANKS for the inspiration.
Wonderful! I'd love to see it when you do.
Very nice. Simple design and easy on the eye. Looks great.
Thank you! 😊
Love your design simplicity and ending beauty and functionality.
Thank you so much!
wow! it's like a penthouse model DIY!
Thanks for the visit!
Wonderful idea for these stairs! The metal looks great
Thank you! 😊
Great idea and budget friendly, thanks Ana!
Thanks so much! 😊
This is so clever. I love the metal railing look, but just assumed I could never have it because the cost is so prohibitive.
Easy and simple railings that look good
Love it. You guys are full of great ideas. As a finish carpenter I see improvements but I get it (budget friendly). Well done.
Glad you like it!

I've been searching how to do new rails for my floating stairs and this just might be it. Thanks for sharing :D
As mentioned in the plans, be sure to check your local building codes. Thanks for the visit, happy you like it!
I love how the width of the spaces between the metal rails match the width of the boards in the ceiling....super design element!😍👍
Thank you very much!
Outstanding job. Just beautiful. Rustic yet classy.
Thank you very much!
How do you get a good measurement for getting the handrail parallel to the white skirt?
They say that sometimes less if more and I would say that it applies to this project. Really clean and simple but it looks so good. Great job.
Thank you!

Something fun might be to put the metal on an angle, in a chevron pattern, or a barn door x!
I love this it is so simple but beautiful
Anna, this looks great. I'm going to replicate in my barn.
I would love to see that!
I 've been looking for ideas and came across this. I love the simple, modern design. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas!!!:)
Thanks for the visit!
I love how creative you are, Ana! It looks fantastic! That house is coming along so beautifully!
Thanks so much! 😊
Brilliant! You’re my hero for sure!!
Beautiful, i think i will do this in my daughters new home

James, I've seen nice railings made with 1"-1 1/2" finish sanded & stained dowels. About the size of a closet rod.
Yes, this will not meet code in some areas. Thanks for watching!
Great stair rail design. Kudos: I appreciate that you always show us up front what you are about to build in your video. I watch even if I have no need for that particular item, because you have always thought through the problem and the methods and designed well.

Beautiful work! I'll be adding them to my barn. Thank you.
Excellent!
Like the style, might have to bite on the design. THX for sharing.
You really do some wonderful designs.
Thank you so much 😊
Wonder how much this sells for? I'm sure someone snatched it up immediately! So beautiful!

I have the same question about the metal.
Looks great!! Keep in mind building codes, in my state 3 1/2 is too wide to pass code going down stairs
For sure, would need to check local building codes.

@@AnaWhiteDIY ah, okay...I would like living by you :-)
Thx for the simplicity 👍 I will be making a replica vid of your project soon! 🤟
YAY, please share!
Great work. Lovely looking home.
Thank you!
Simple to make, Looks great, Another job well done, cheers John from OZ
Thanks 👍
Simple and effective. I love it!
Thank you! 😊
Love this! You are such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome!
Thanks fir sharing your idea..I love it😍🤩😍👍👏👏👏
Thanks so much 😊
Would the angles railing be sturdy?
Beautiful result!
Thank you! 😊
Very nice design maam thank you
Thanks for the visit!
Awesome!!! Very Nice!!! Thank You Ana!!!!👍😎🌹😃
I'm glad you like it!
So simple yet looks great.
That is beautiful and super simple! I know what railing I'm putting in my basement now 😁
Awesome, be sure to check your local building codes.
Beautiful!! Love it!
Thank you! 😊

Yes,yes, yes! This is easy to modify and build on. We wanted to keep this one simple but certainly could be upgraded
Bit more faff to route out a channel for t'metal, but definitely an ultimately tidier finish
I followed this video with my handrail design. Upon inspection, the inspector stated that the 2x4 is not a graspable handrail. So excited to rebuild this entire system
We are doing this for the stairs in our garage but using plumbing pipe on the inside as the actual handrail so it will meet code!
Gorgeous!
Beautiful result.
Thank you! 😊
That was fabulous!!! Great ideas❤️
It's an excellent choice.
The picture on fb shows 2x4s on the inside of the railing as well. did you add those later? I like that look as it hides the screw heads, etc.
Others have modified from the original plan, that may be what you're seeing. Thanks for the visit, here is the full plan www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/modern-farmhouse-diy-staircase-railing
We’re going to do this on an outside deck. Great economical idea!
Have fun!
Would the steel rust outside??
@@wendylambel39 it will without the Rustoleum paint. I tried just using a rust protection coating and it rusted but so far with the paint it looks great.
thanks Ana🙏🙏🙏
Ana, the railings look wonderful! The wooden frame softens any harsh "metal modern" look. Is there a close-up? I missed it.👍❣
love these railings!!!!
Does this meet local building codes? It does seem to be viable in other states. . .
Yes. But do check with your local codes

Exactly what I needed thank you
Great!
Love the idea! Looks fantastic
Thanks so much!
Beautiful I really love it
Thank you! 😊
How did you manage the connection where the angle changes on the stairs?
The house looks fabulous. Where do we put in an offer??
Almost done!
I have a question about hand rails, instead of putting the top rail ontop can you put it on the side of the boards instead?
This is really beautiful and we are looking to do something similar. My question is how strong and sturdy is the finished product?
It works great for us, be sure to check your local build codes.
Love it! I need something like this!! I’m going to try it. Thank you for sharing so much!!
Looks great. How long would you say it took you to complete?
A couple of days off and on. Thanks for the visit!
Amazing video, thank you 🙏
My pleasure!
