My best advice for people who don’t like their books is either joining a swap group OR if you’re not necessarily worried about getting like for like finding a little free library in your area. I’m sure some people would love finding a “pretty new” hardcover book there.
I would have never read Weyward. Not my favorite genre. However, you and another book reviewer raved about that book. I picked it up and LOVED it. One of my favorite books of the year. Thanks for the recommendation.
I feel like it would’ve been worth mentioning that BOTM gives users the option to check out “other member favs” when the consumer isn’t interested in the main 5-7 picks. Oh no, I love the anticipation of the monthly drop. It’s such a fun surprise when it finally drops! But I can totally understand how that would bother people.
I'll look for the "other member faves" option next month. Is that feature available both on the app and the website? I feel like BOTM is leaning more towards the app and away from the website.
For anyone wanting to swap a botm book, there is a subreddit called botm swap where you can make a post saying what books you have and want to get rid of and which ones you are looking for so people can respond if they have or want books that match yours. Its pretty cool! I do agree with not liking that you have to get a botm main pick before you can get an add on. Why cant i pick any book they have instead of the main pick?
I I just joined to help out a friend. I’ve gotten 2 boxes with picks I was happy with. I did the yearly subscription! Great episode. Hopefully you’ll get some recognition from BOTM.
I signed up for them in December, so i'm fairly new to the BOTM thing. My subscription came with an audio book which was great because I'm trying to get more audio done this year. Unfortuanlly I absolutely HATE their app! It's a bit disorganized and I'm annoyed that it doesn't auto open into my library. Also, there seems to be something wrong with the code, because if the app is open in the background the book will start autoplaying after what I would described as inturupting audio. for example, using the sleep timer, the book will typically turn off at the proper time, but after my alarm sounds, the app will start playing the book again. It also doesn't recognize some other audios as playing. I remember setting it up to play for a long drive and calling someone. After I hung up, the book played under my music and it was absolutely terrible!
Back in December I wasn’t interested in any of the books but because I was one away from BFF status I shipped a box anyway lol. I did get 2 add ons I wanted and got rid of my main pick. I do wish we could select any book. It would be so much easier. Also will you still be doing your polls where we pick which book we want you to read? I enjoy voting on those.
Excellent points, both pro and con. For me, BOTM has been more than worth it because of all the books I ended up reading (and mostly loving/liking) that weren't even on my radar. BTW, Butcher & Blackbird is definitely worth the read! Spice level is 🌶🔥📈!
I’ve been a BoTM sub for almost 2 years now. I really enjoy looking at the books they offer and getting 1-2 per month. However I am also TERRIBLE about actually reading them 🙈. I have 30 books from them… I’ve read 5. I do this with all of my sub boxes- so many FairyLoot/Illumicrate books just languishing on my shelves too. My NewYears resolution is to actually read these books.
Yes I received 2 books from BOTM that had rips in the back but I still like them I never tell them either when I received them ripped so maybe if I would have they would have sent a replacement but it’s too late for that I think. But I do like them I tend to like most of the books I get.
The main pattern I've noticed, when it comes to when they release the monthly picks, is that they will prioritize releasing them on the first of the month if it's a Monday-Thursday, sometimes Friday. If the first is a Saturday or Sunday, then you have a wider range, but most commonly I've noticed that if the first is a weekend, it's usually the wednesday before when the picks go out. This is all observation, so I know I'm not 100% right, but it might help with the new monthly pick anticipation!
😮 What the heck? Whyyy did they do that to you? I’m sure they’ll rethink that when you tell them they’re breaking the law. I’m sure they’d rather give you your money back than deal with legal issues that could turn into a class action lawsuit

I think the coin on the spine has to do with the original spine design. If the coin would cover up the original design they don't do the coin.

BOTM voided my paid credits and kept the money after a year, which is illegal in my state.
