I have bad news for you) SoB Forbidden Fortress is better in EVERY aspect than Old West: art, design, monsters, balance, difficulty, miniatures quality, theme, tiles (best SoB tiles). You need it now.
Nooooooo why u do dis 💀I would but I already have the two base boxes for Adventures unopened, maybe when I paint those sets I'll come full circle and get Fortress 😂
My biggest surprises in this year are Skoventyr, JUMP Drive: Terminal Velocity and Ukiyo. My biggest disappointments in this year are Maidens Quest and also part of TED (mainly the immense difficulty).
Aw, too bad you didn't like Maiden's Quest! I love that one, but it got overshadowed by Dragons of Etchinstone. I'm really, really interested in Skoventyr! I've heard great things about it, I'm looking to acquire it soon. I still need to play my copy of Terminal Velocity!
@@Azure_Death You definitely should bring Terminal Velocity on the Table. I knew people who played that arround 500+ times, so there is potential. And i'm also looking for Dragons of Etchinstone, which isn't avaible here in germany.
I don't mind the bookkeeping in Folklore. Yes it's a lot for a board game but compared to D&D it's about on par, so for an RPG experience I think it's fitting. I know some people had trouble with the d100 combat system and I agree it isn't the best but it never bothered me enough to be turned off to the game. Especially with the dark tales expansion added and the ability to play side quests along side the main quest I think this game is amazing, it'll stand the test of time and I can't ever see it leaving my collection, even if it's play weight keeps it off the table most weekends.
Agreed! I didn't mind that much really, but it might bother some folks, I just like giving people a heads up. I really need to play that Dark Tales content.
I haven't! Other people have made the same comparison. I'm so invested into SoB that I'm a bit concerened to replace it so soon with a new system 😅 but I'm open to try it eventually!
@@Azure_Death DUN has a lot more rules, though there is a simplified starter booklet. Solo I fear you'll get bogged down after the SoB experience (as I did). Though perfectly playable solo, DUN works better with a group.
I did not really mind the Skyrim rulebook. Of course it's not the best but it did not kill the fun of the game for me. Folklore is great but indeed you need to control 3 if you play solo but above all you should be ready to rule on the spot. As in any conventional rpg the rules can be loose and do not cover every situation.
If the Skyrim rulebook had the same disclaimer from Folklore that states you should expect some on the spot ruling in the spirit of old RPGs, I would have respected it a bit more. Ironically, even though Folklore has that disclaimer, I rarely ever ran into that issue, whereas Skyrim you pretty much have to fill in half the rules lol
I'm honestly never surprised to see an important IP (especially coming from videogames, like Skyrim or AC) landing as a poor game. I am glad, however, when I see a good implementation of an IP, because it isn't often the case. As a result, I tend to avoid backing these IP games as a rule, but I may be open to buying a second-hand pledge if I was wrong about it. One notable exception to this is when the publisher has a history of producing excellent games, like Betrayal of the Second Era (Elder Scrolls IP as well) from Chip Theory Games. I was doubtful at first, but hope to be pleasantly surprised about it since I know I love CTG games.
I didn't back Betrayal only because I have so much Too Many Bones already, but I probably would have backed it otherwise. I'm happy for good adaptations too which are indeed the exception. I still need to try my copy of Bloodborne which was overall received well.
@@Azure_Death I've heard great things about Bloodborne! Though I haven't played the videogame myself, it stands in my book as one of the successful IP games. I hope you'll like it!
Biggest disappointment EVER is Halloween 2 by Stop the killer. Omfg!! This shouldn’t exist as a game. Wow!! I have never thought a game could be so empty and basically BROKEN. Got it yesterday from a KS campaign. The game play is empty. You hover around one space on a board hoping to land on it. Then roll a die to get a weapon. If you don’t get it you wonder for a minimum of 2 turns to HOPE to roll and get the # to land on it again and then again not get the weapon by failing another roll. If playing with 2 people and 1 gets the weapon. The other player has NOTHING to do. Absolutely NOTHING! I have never been this disappointed in a board game
I feel the same about Skyrim and Assassin's Creed. They are 2 of my favorite video games but the board games were not good. Final Girl was my biggest disappointment though. The theme is great but the gameplay was constant frustration.
Too bad you did not liked Tiny Epic Dungeons. I like the idea behind Tiny Epic games. Dungeons is kind of hard, but I believe there lies the appeal. At the same time is kind of a "cheap" way of getting a puzzle-like dungeon crawler of sorts (those titles are crazy expensive to be honest). I am an odd one though, since I do not like TE Galaxies... I find it bland in someway. After the Virus though, it's such a good game as well. Also kind of hard and unforgiving and the art is horrible but there are some very good rethemes (I am currently playing with the "Maximum Apocalypse" retheme and it fits great 😎)
I do agree that dungeon crawlers tend to be prohibitively expensive, so I can see how TE Dungeons offers something more affordable. Just wish I had enjoyed it 😅
Eh, I liked it ok at the time. I haven't played it in a while so my opinion might change if I play it now. I remember it being an enjoyable pandemic-style game.
It's a shame Folklore got discontinued as it had so much potential to continue with endless expansions. I loved the atmosphere.
I completely agree with Tiny Epic Dungeons and the series in general.

Too bad about Masquerade! It looked interesting, I guess I'll skip it.

Have you tried Dungeon Universalis? I think you'll like it! I love Shadows Of Brimstone as well but DUN even surpassed it for me.

I thought you were joking for a second but I went look up the game and it seems to check out lol. Sorry that happened, sounds awful 💀

Oof, I still need to play my copy of Final Girl. We'll see where I land on it. I have heard other people echo what you say about it.
Except for the art that I'm OK with there is nothing not perfect about this game - after the virus

TED is not Tiny and is kind of boring as its just a race to get to a very confusing or at least an unnecessarily drawn out boss fight that isn't fun.
Eh, I liked it ok at the time. I haven't played it in a while so my opinion might change if I play it now. I remember it being an enjoyable pandemic-style game.
