There are maybe three dozen videos on how to improve a cabinet like this, and I've watched most of them. I think this one is the best.
Thank you John, you just made my day. And I'm proud to say it is still working flawlessly.
Most comprehensive video for upgrades and done on a budget too unlike most who’ve spent lots on extras. Great work 👍
Thank you!
I love a man that has the experience and knowledge to share. Thank you very much!
Thank you Sir!
Best mod designs that I have watched on TH-cam. Excellent job. Thanks.
Thank you Jim! You made my day! ! !
Extremely innovative
Thank you!
@@freeidaho-videos also, I'm on my way to home Depot right now to get PVC, lights, the bucket vacuum, and that piano hinge.
Anything outside the video to be aware of?
@@BigSarnt Sorry for the late reply. What you see is what you get pretty much.
Good luck ! ! !
Very nice video. I really like the hinged top idea.
Thank you! You are right, it is a game-changer.
Great upgrades. Well done.
Thank you!
Great upgrades! I will be adding these to my cabinet. Very helpful. Thank you!
You are very kind sir! Thank you!
Great informative video on your modifications, thanks for sharing. I like the fact that the bucket vacuum creates enough vacuum to pull the gloves in. I had not thought of using one of those.
Thank you Sir!
Excellent tips, thanks for sharing, I will be using them. Yass, Australia.
Hey Mate, thank you! Mine continues to work great. Good luck!
Very detailed Very informative Thank you very much
Thank you Sir!
Real nice workmanship. I have the HF Bench Model that I am doing Mods to and I see that we feel the same way about using PVC instead of steel. Nice video. I'll be checking out more of your work now that I found your channel.😊😊😊
Thank you! Thanks for subscribing. Good luck on your cabinet. They are not fast, but they work great if you have enough air.
Just bought this same cabinet. Unfortunately we get ripped off in Australia, $500.00 delivered to my door. Used for 2 hours so far. Glass bead all over the place. Leaks like a siv. Going to do your mods with the pvc for the media. Also the lighting and also the vacuum filtering etc. I'm short so don't need more height. Wheels would be handy for moving etc. Thanks for all your great ideas.
Thank you! Good luck to you sir!
Very good sir … thank you
Thank you! Good luck!
Nice job!
Thank you!
I LOve the lid and I am going to do that. Thank You gor the idea
Thank you and good luck!
New subscriber here. I stumbled on your channel. I am building a machine shop(mostly from scratch and I will have some of it on TH-cam). Along with the normal machines I am building a vapor hone blast cabinet and I am still modifying my cabinet. Just fantastic mods my friend.
Thank you for the subscription and kind comments. Good luck on your machine shop!
great tips, I just bought a similar cheap unit with a tiny door, bad light, bad suction its a project in itself now! Might start on the top hinge first
Good luck. Mine is still working great with no further issues.
Well, I think you did a real good job with the vacuum system and I am going to steal that idea from you, I ordered a blast cabinet from Jegs because it is a top opening cabinet and I'll have to do almost everything to it that you did less the top. I love the metering valve out of PVC, I think I'll change it a bit but very little.
Good luck on your cabinet! Thank you for your kind comments.
I just made a bottom feed for the syphon and my blaster is a new animal
Glad it worked out for you too!
I'm going to pick up one of those bucket vacs. I'm also going copy your top opening modification too. I run my cabinet at 120 PSI using an 80 gallon 7.5HP compressor on a copper piping system. I use an S-35 gun with a carbide nozzle from TP tools. I can blast all day long continuously. Over the years, I've found that a minimum of a 220V 3 HP compressor with a 60-80 gallon tank is needed for decent performance... 5-7.5 HP is even nicer.
Thank you! I have a better compressor on my wish list.
Can you make a list of all the parts that are needed especially the PVC pipe parts
What is a bucket vacuum? I was going to use a dust separator with an external vacuum but I like your set up. Very well done and informative video.
Thank you!
A bucket vacuum is just what the name says. It is a vacuum that fits in a bucket like these: www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=bucket+vacuum
I’m doing my blast cabinet upgrades I’d like to see how your vacuum & water separator plumbs in
If you go to my youtube home page, you can find my email address. Send your question to me in email and I will reply with pictures.
Thanks for the insight! What did you use aa a riser for the front legs? For the wheels in the back is that conduit strapped on underneath? Finally the bucket is it filled with water? If so is the inlet in the water?
Hi David,
If you go to my youtube homepage you can get my email address there. Send me an email with these questions and I will send back pictures that will explain.
Could you just post a brief video that answers those questions?

Likely going to do the same mods to mine, rhanks for this! How well have those LED's held up? They dont get too dinged up or dirty?
Thank you! The LEDs and the window do get dirty. But the LEDs are so bright, I don't have to clean them very often.
@freeidaho-videos awesome! Good to know, thanks for the response. Could I bug you for a link to those lights?
@@cameronvandeusen7871Those are just Walmart lights. Nothing really special about them.
What kind of latch do you use for the top to hold it down
No latch needed. With the flat bar, the lid is heavier than standard, and I have a vacuum hooked to the cabinet, so there is negative pressure (vacuum), holding the lid down when in use.
Fan aint a bad idea. I found a palm sander at a yard sale for $5 I mounted to mine to shake it. I bet your fan aint as loud.
Good idea too. It probably shakes more than mine. Both work.
Hi could you show how your vacuum is hooked up to your cabinet please!
Of course.
See 0:44 in the video. There is a PVC pipe leading from the cabinet to the white 5-gallon bucket debris trap.
See 8:50 in the video. This is air inlet to the PVC pipe leading from the cabinet to the white 5-gallon bucket debris trap.
See 21:46 in the video. The bucket vacuum is attached to the orange bucket. The bucket-vacuum hose goes into the top of the white 5-gallon bucket. Thus the air from the cabinet leaves the cabinet and first goes into the white 5-gallon bucket debris trap, where any paint, rust, or dust is trapped in the debris bucket. The air is then cleaner and goes into the vacuum.
Hi could you tell me where you bought the fan for the sand vibrator!!!
@@WilliamFarr-xk6vy It is a run-pf-the-mill 3.5" fan from my used computer bin. They are a common item in that world. An amazon search for 3.5" or 90mm computer fan will give you many choices.
Did you do anything to the bucket that comes off the tank....where did you get the vac
Tim, the only thing added to the bucket that collects debris is the water in the bottom, and the air flow control pieces in the top of the bucket.
The "bucket vacuum" was ordered from Home Depot and was shipped out of Canada. But that was two years ago, so I have no idea if it is still available. But bucket vacuums still seem to turn up for sale on internet searches from Home Depot, Walmart, and Amazon.
could you explain the two buckets on the bottom shelf and how they work?
The white bucket is a water filter. The second bucket is a vacuum, made specifically to fit on the top of a bucket.
You will notice that you get media piled up on the ledge under the door at the front of the cabinet and this drops out when you open the door. To cure this drill 3 or 4 1/4" holes next to each other where the media piles up
I've run this thing dozens of hours and do not have this problem.
So the air coming in….it’s just ambient air coming in the back through that little round door? And getting pulled out via the vac?
Xactly! That keeps the dust down in the cabinet so one can see the action. Without it, it only takes 20 seconds before you can't even see the work piece.
@@freeidaho-videos and you know as far as compressor, I only have a 25 gallon compressor. Its maybe from the 90s but it’s a great compressor. It’s a seers craftsman “professional” two-stage oil less. I’m not sure of the CFM I think it’s 6.4 but then it says something 5.1 SCFM. Anyhow, the harbor freight cabinet looks like it’s 9.5 CSM at 90. Why does the cabinet matter? Is it a matter of the gun and the hose used? Couldn’t one downsize the size of the hose to use a smaller rated compressor?
@@AmeriFanPicker Like me you are going to have to wait. My Sears is a 1992 30 gallon 5hp single cylinder. So I try to have two projects going at once. Sandblast a little, weld a little, sandblast a little, fabricate a little, and so on.
Molt be; ets dels meus.
