Awesome video! Any idea what paint the OEM part has on it? I need to touch mine up
Good question. I have been very careful not to need touch-ups. I'd try one of the Rustoleum black colors, either gloss or satin. BTW, this "Rust-Oleum Universal All Surface Metallic Spray Paint" matches my frame very closely. See my video on Scout driving lights to see what I mean.
could you explain the two buckets on the bottom shelf and how they work?
The white bucket is a water filter. The second bucket is a vacuum, made specifically to fit on the top of a bucket.
I’ve got a small 1.8 ton floor Jack that needs an extension so I can reach the axles of my Toy Hauler. I may reach out to you if I can’t come up with something. Thanks for the video! ✌🏽
There are maybe three dozen videos on how to improve a cabinet like this, and I've watched most of them. I think this one is the best.
Thank you John, you just made my day. And I'm proud to say it is still working flawlessly.
I once had a company car. A couple things I had to do to get the keys was sign for the car and take the driving safety class. First lesson in the class was lights on all the time day or night. Second lesson was always back into parking spaces. I have no data on headlights, but the backing into parking spaces has saved my bacon a number of times pulling out as you can see those folks who whip through the lot at high speed almost running into you while they are looking for a space.
Brian, thank you! Good advice indeed. I hope you and the family, are well! Thanks for watching.

Hi could you show how your vacuum is hooked up to your cabinet please!
Of course. See 0:44 in the video. There is a PVC pipe leading from the cabinet to the white 5-gallon bucket debris trap. See 8:50 in the video. This is air inlet to the PVC pipe leading from the cabinet to the white 5-gallon bucket debris trap. See 21:46 in the video. The bucket vacuum is attached to the orange bucket. The bucket-vacuum hose goes into the top of the white 5-gallon bucket. Thus the air from the cabinet leaves the cabinet and first goes into the white 5-gallon bucket debris trap, where any paint, rust, or dust is trapped in the debris bucket. The air is then cleaner and goes into the vacuum.
Hi could you tell me where you bought the fan for the sand vibrator!!!
@@WilliamFarr-xk6vy It is a run-pf-the-mill 3.5" fan from my used computer bin. They are a common item in that world. An amazon search for 3.5" or 90mm computer fan will give you many choices.
I'd siggest adding a hoop top the pulley to prevent the cable from coming off.
Thanks! In several years of usage, I have had no problems with the cable coming off of the pulley. The pulley is for about 3/4" cable or rope, so the groove is very deep.
Did you do anything to the bucket that comes off the tank....where did you get the vac
Tim, the only thing added to the bucket that collects debris is the water in the bottom, and the air flow control pieces in the top of the bucket. The "bucket vacuum" was ordered from Home Depot and was shipped out of Canada. But that was two years ago, so I have no idea if it is still available. But bucket vacuums still seem to turn up for sale on internet searches from Home Depot, Walmart, and Amazon.
Great drop turner. I builtone many years ago and this one is far superior. Is it possible to get the plans? Thanks, Randy
Thank you! As it says in the video, get my email address from my youtube home page, and email me for plans.
I like those guys over at gem state metals, I’ve bought from them several times. They have hooked me up with some cheap cutoffs and drops to practice welding on.
Agreed, I have been a customer of Gem State Metals in several forms and locations under one owner since 1992. The new (relatively) owner is far more greedy than Tom was, but it is truly the only place in the area to buy only the lengths you need.
I was just looking at these the other day, as a new-to-tig welder. Thanks for the review, just found the channel and will subscribe! I’m in Boise Idaho.
Excellent! I'm in Eagle! Good luck! Don't give up. The learning curve at first is very steep, but it is worth the learning.
Why don't you tell the name and where you bought the attachment? Terrible waste of my time without that info.

One thing I see is that you are cooling the coolant before it goes into the torch, wheras almost all orher designs pump straight into the torch and put the radiator at the coolant return.
My thought is the water should be as cool as possible going to the torch. But I can see the other design working as well. I suspect it doesn't make much difference either way if the cooling capacity is adequate.
@@freeidaho-videos The only thing I can think off is that any air in the radiator gets burped out in the reservoir. The way you have it could (in theory) have you pumping air bubbles into the torch. Also, I do not see a bypass?? My diy cooler had a valve t-eed between the feed and return lines with which I could unsure maximum flow with the least pressure, that did quieten the pump a lot.
@@NemesisRTCW No air bubbles anywhere in the system. The lines are all clear, and bubbles would be visible, and I would have removed them. I have noted that those coolers that have a pump with too much capacity, need a by-pass, to keep the pressure at the torch to the specified level. Those coolers with a beverage pump bypass up to 80% of their capacity. This just adds pumping heat to the coolant, and lowers efficiency.
40 years ago I made a tig cooler from refrigerated Elkin water cooler components.
Sounds like a great idea. Mine works well, even at high amperages, but I can see how a chiller would be even better.
Fan aint a bad idea. I found a palm sander at a yard sale for $5 I mounted to mine to shake it. I bet your fan aint as loud.
Good idea too. It probably shakes more than mine. Both work.
I love a man that has the experience and knowledge to share. Thank you very much!

Just google and looking to see if any one has a lifting table welding setup. Found an 6 year old fire ball tools video of how huge one and your video. I have a old beat up lifting table I'm rebuilding and was thinking about cutting off the old beat up top and putting on a better top for welding. I work on old garden tractors and they from 450 to 900 lbs. So need the table to lift them. would love to place the finished table in the ground so it is flush with the floor, and so I can still get a car over the table. Like all my projects it will take some time and might never get finished lol .
That is indeed ambitious. I wish you good luck! Adjustable height just can't be beat.

I like the height-lower hack.
Thank you Sir. My milling machine base is very low, and I made it to roll under there.
So the air coming in….it’s just ambient air coming in the back through that little round door? And getting pulled out via the vac?
Xactly! That keeps the dust down in the cabinet so one can see the action. Without it, it only takes 20 seconds before you can't even see the work piece.
@@freeidaho-videos and you know as far as compressor, I only have a 25 gallon compressor. Its maybe from the 90s but it’s a great compressor. It’s a seers craftsman “professional” two-stage oil less. I’m not sure of the CFM I think it’s 6.4 but then it says something 5.1 SCFM. Anyhow, the harbor freight cabinet looks like it’s 9.5 CSM at 90. Why does the cabinet matter? Is it a matter of the gun and the hose used? Couldn’t one downsize the size of the hose to use a smaller rated compressor?
@@AmeriFanPicker Like me you are going to have to wait. My Sears is a 1992 30 gallon 5hp single cylinder. So I try to have two projects going at once. Sandblast a little, weld a little, sandblast a little, fabricate a little, and so on.

You will appreciate not grinding the exhaust and pegs at every turn. Be safe, have fun, wheelie if you know how ;)
Good video, but why do you use wd 40 to drill, since it’s a solvent not oil?
To be technically correct, WD40 was invented to displace water and keep things from rusting. W=water, D=Displacement. That said, it is mostly used for lubrication, which is what I use it for. It is extremely good on aluminum, and pretty good on steel. I use it on the drill, lathe, and milling machine, as well as most anything that needs a light lubricant.
@@freeidaho-videos used for water displacement to prevent rusting. When it disapates, rust will return.
@@hummv8 Sure does, however, some of the multi-year tests have shown it to be very effective.
I like what you did over all the designs you showed before. In my opinion, even a 300 amp TIG torch only needs about 1 quart per minute flow to keep it safely cool. I have a design in mind that will be thin and can mount to the side of a welding cart to save space. With a radiator, only 1 gallon of liquid should be fine. I do not think that many BTU's transfer into the torch head, total. I am about to do testing.
Good luck, a I hope you make a video to share.
@@freeidaho-videos Also meant to mention, the low cost LED temp displays would be a useful addition to monitor actual temps of the coolant.
@@funone8716 For me, the temperature of the torch is most important. And I have to hang on to the torch to weld.
Tell those people in the background to BE QUIET!
I will try to do better.
This is what happens when you buy substandard Chinese machines. Gone are the days when they were made in the USA like South Bend and Clausing. I’ve been a machinist for 40 years and it’s hard to believe that in this and age people buying machines from China are always fixing them because they are made so poorly. You would never do this if you were to buy a new car. It’s depressing to think that the machine made today are worse than they were in the past yet here we have the most advanced CNC machine-tool technology and engineering yet no amount of it is helping the Chinese make BETTER machines. They also look like they were made by disgruntled workers. What a disgrace this is. There’s no way in hell I would buy a Chinese made machine. I’d rather buy an old Clausing or South Bend and restore it.
Whoa, there big fella. That is a pretty high horse you are riding. It turns out like I explained, this was my fault, and would have broken any lathe. When you start paying your own money for machine tools, it sometimes goes like this. Either buy something perfectly capable but not excellent, or have nothing at all. This is a Taiwanese lathe, a big difference from one from China. The quality is great for the price point and can regularly hold 0.0002" with a skilled machinist running it. So I chose to have it, instead of nothing.
@@freeidaho-videos The point I was making is that we in the US no longer have any regard for making machines as we did in the past. The problem you had with the keyed (broken) bushing reminds me of my Clausing lathe. It was specifically designed with a well known safety feature: A 0.093" sheer pin on the lead screw in case an operator either cuts too much in one pass or accidentally runs the cutting tool into a shoulder. Repairing it is just a matter of replacing the pin. Whether your Taiwanese lathe had the same intentions with the keyed bushing, I doubt it. Be that as it may, I hope all the best for you and your projects.
Man I like the idea! Great video!I’ve been looking at adding lights to my scout for the same reasons.question? Would you be interested in selling a set of those? Idk with all the time involved if it would be profitable but I definitely need a set.

@@cameronvandeusen7871Those are just Walmart lights. Nothing really special about them.
Not real sure how i ended up here. I am a welder by trade and run 200+ tig amps for quite long durations.. As has been mentioned already, ditch the radiator and add coolant quantity. For the average home guy doing steel/SS and some Alum 10L in more than enough. If need be have a separate drain where you can bleed of warm water while adding cool. Any way great video well planned out and executed ken
Thank you!
Wrong. If we use your idea we'll eliminate the radiator in your truck and add 3 55 gallon barrels of coolant to the system. Now you can't haul anything because the truck bed is full of barrels of coolant.
@@funone8716 but where not talking about trucks out on the road, where talking about a tig hand piece with 6mm water lines. Anyway after 35 years of profesional welding and regularly pushing 350 mig amps and 200+ tig using the same water unit, ill stick to what i know works.
@@superdidly1 Then why do professional coolers all run a radiator? Because a fan and a radiator have near infinite cooling capacity, wheras just a larger but not actively cooled reservoir will eventually heat up.
