The league cup is held every summer from late July to mid August, MLS and Liga MX both pause their season for the tournament. The league cup has 47 team participants 29 from MLS and 18 from Liga MX. The 2 champions of each league from the previous season get a bye to the knockout round. The other 45 teams are split into 15 groups of 3. In the group stage a win is 3 point, if there is a tie after 90 minutes each team get 1 point and it goes straight to penalties and the winner of that gets an additional point. The top two teams in the group advanced to the knockout round. The winner of each group gets to host the first knockout round game, and starting in the round of 16 the host is determined by the previous season supporters shield standings (which ever team had the most points at the end of the season, because we have playoffs this is the “trophy” that teams get for winning the regular season, although the MLS cup is still the primary trophy and most people forget about the shield winners after the regular season ends). If 2 Liga MX team play it will be a a designated neutral site. During the knockout round after 90 minutes it goes straight to penalties. The teams that make the final and the winner of the 3rd place game qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League.

Interesting the reply that no relegations or promotions will ever happen. I can see where you're coming from due to the enormous amounts of money that are paid for the franchises. However, if the MLS is serious it will have to happen one day!! Perhaps when Messi has retired he may very well advocate this!

This was actually Inter Miami's 4th game of the tournament. They previously defeated Cruz Azul (Liga MX), Atlanta United FC, and Orlando City SC. They will be facing Charlotte FC in the Quarterfinals.
As for the Leagues Cup, this is the third edition of it, but first under the new format. The new format now include all 47 teams across the MLS and Mexico's Liga MX with all 77 games being held in the U.S. and Canada (as all MLS teams and their stadiums will be the hosts for the tournament). All teams, with the exception of LAFC and Pachuca (Liga MX)- due to winning the 2022 MLS Cup and 2022 Apertura respectively (they both automatically qualified for the Round of 32), were placed into 15 groups of 3. For the group stage, teams played one match against each team in their group. Regulation wins were worth three points and regulation losses are zero points. Matches tied after 90 minutes advanced to a penalty shoot-out, where the winner earned two points and the loser earned one. The two finalists and third place team will earn berths for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, with the winners automatically advancing to the Champions Cup round of 16.
    Hope this helps!

The parents of Cremaschi, the 18 year old, are Argentinian. Ben Crem has been called up by the USA U19 team and has been in camp with the Argentina U20 team. Besides the three designated players each MLS team can have, there is also a U22 rule that allows each team to have three young players that count little against their salary cap. It’s been a big reason for MLS going from somewhat of a “retirement league” to having a lot of good, young players from the Americas (especially Argentinians).

    • @HarveyWallbangers2
      @HarveyWallbangers2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Unfortunately for him, he's playing alongside Messi who is the center of attraction and who gets all the attention. (FYI, I'm a huge Messi fan since 2014!)
FORTUNATELY for him/Cremaschi, at such a very young age, he gets to train & play alongside the one and only GOAT Messi...in the last few years of Messi's professional fútbol career!
What Cremaschi can learn from Messi at such a young age is priceless...professionalism, athleticism, sportsmanship, being a team player, humility, kindness, alertness & focus while in the pitch, and maybe a few tricks here and there. These are just a few that a young player like Cremaschi can learn while playing alongside a living legend like Messi!

The leagues cup is all 29 MLS teams versus all 18 Liga MX teams in a World Cup style tournament. There was a group stage, a round of 32, a round of 16, and so on. The winner of the tournament gets regional bragging rights and $2 million in cash. The top three finishers get automatic bids into the CONCACAF champions league for a chance at winning a spot in the club World Cup and $5 million cash. Both Liga MX and MLS have completely stopped their seasons for the duration of the tournament. The seasons resume on August 20.
The format is 15 groups of 3 teams in leagues cup. The reigning liga MX champs Pachuca and MLS champs LAFC got automatic bids into the round of 32. The top two teams in each group of three filled out the remaining 30 round of 32 spots. This is the inaugural version of leagues cup in it’s current format.
CONCACAF champions league features 27 teams… Three club teams from the Caribbean, six club teams from Central America, and the remaining 18 from the United States, Mexico and Canada.
As for CONCACAF Champions League here’s a breakdown of how teams qualify:
Canadian Championship Cup: winner. This is the Canadian FA cup with all the domestic pro/semipro leagues in canada plus the three Canadian MLS teams
U.S. Open Cup: winner. This is the U.S. FA Cup. The non-Canadian MLS teams play amongst all the other three professional leagues in the American pyramid as well as semi-pro teams who make it through a qualification process.
Canadian Premier League: top 2 finishers
MLS: 5 teams based on standings and playoff results
Liga MX: 6 teams total. 3 from Clausura and 3 from Apertura.
    Leagues cup: top three finishers
Copa Centroamericana: top six finishers. The copa centroamericana is the club competition for Central America. After the season the top 2-4 finishers from each league in Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Beliz play in a club competition with group stage and knockouts. Top six finishers make champions league.
Carribean Challenge Cup: top 3 finishers. The league champion from each carribean countries league plays a qualification tournament amongst each other. Top three finishers make champions league.
I hope that helps to answer any and all the questions you had. :)

I think same scenario of Argentina in world cup will repeat, where inter Miami technical level will improve as they advance. Inter Miami still have shortfalls that need to be fixed, and I think they will be fixed with time. Messi has already proven to be the GOAT but also the best leader for teams.

In Leagues Cup, the teams are divided into groups of three with only the top team advancing into the knockout rounds. Also, rather than playing extra time periods if the match is drawn after 90 minutes, they go straight to penalty kicks. Each group had one team from Liga MX and two from MLS. I know many have criticized the defending in MLS, but it should be kept in mind that the sports leagues here in the U.S. and Canada emphasize offense at the expense of defense, with the NFL, NHL, and NBA adjusting the rules to favor scoring over the last 25-30 years. In the case of MLS, instead of altering the rules, the teams emphasize offense over defense to the extent of signing talented forwards and midfielders rather than defenders.

First football kit I ever bought was a DeAndre Yedlin Tottenham shirt! He's definitely lost a step as he's gotten older, but I think he's still a decent RB. Overall though the quality of defending in MLS is not very good, but hey it makes it even more exciting to have Messi here hahaha

Being a ‘real’ football fan is not part of the PSG ethos. Many ‘real’ football fans living in Paris don’t consider PSG to be anything but a brand, fake team and they would rather miss watching the GOAT in their own backyard to support a team with a legacy & history such as Man Utd, Barcelona and similar teams from around Europe. Quite sad really that they have no respect for their home town team. A real team and it’s fanbase would never disrespect a footballing legend irrespective of their previous resume. It’s just counter productive to supporting your team and achieves nothing. The MLS are now benefiting from that arrogance by having their eyes opened by the MESSI effect, which is incredible to watch and I for one am just really happy for them, and happy for Mr Beckham and his colleagues in achieving their long term goal of making Football massive in the USA. Just hope he stays fit and well and can continue to perform at this level for many years to come.

A lot of Americans have zero interest in soccer unless their kids play it. I’m in Florida near Miami, and I still have a hard time trying to find somewhere to watch these games. I even went into a British pub to ask if they show the games, and they didn’t even know who Messi was (they were Americans working in a British pub)

Messi being in MLS is insane and I love it. Beckham. Zlatan. Etc. I feel like MLS and Inter Milan are doing things to keep this momentum going. Obviously MLS is probably two tiers below the PL but having the talent signed to it, even as a 'retirement' league (and not the Arab(?) League) is such a healthy sign.

Fifteen 3-team groups, top 2 from each group advanced to the Round of 32 to join last year's champions from MLS and Liga MX who were placed automatically into knockouts. Y'all previously watched their first group game. They cruised to a 4-0 win against Atlanta United including 2 goals from Messi, then beat Orlando City 3-1 in the Round of 32 with, you guessed it, 2 goals from Messi. This was the Round of 16 and yes, they went straight to penalties. They actually took Damo's advice and went straight to penalties in the group stage. A regulation win was worth 3 points, a shootout win 2, a shootout loss 1, and a regulation loss 0.
And, it's okay, no one heard of the leagues cup before this year either.

The Leagues Cup is a new tournament consisting of MLS AND LIGA MX (Mexico) all teams participate in opening round. Games tied after full time go directly to penalty kick shootout. The winner of the shootout receives 2 points in the table. So 3 for a win 2 for a win in pks and 0 for a loss. If you lose in pks you get 1 point. 47 total teams. 29 from MLS and 18 from Liga MX. Top 2 teams from first round advance to the round of 32. Then it's a knockout format until the final.
