    *"Seven families rule the region of Khamse. Its population is totally Armenian."*

    It's important to know that the reason why Moscow did not give Artsakh/Karabakh to Armenia isn't due to negligence but rather it was intentional. The Soviet/Russian leadership wanted there to be a sizable population of another republic's majority ethnic group (sometimes neighboring such as Artsakh and sometimes just Russians) within each republic in order to make independence/nationalism impossible. That is why Azerbaijan was forced to keep it during the early Soviet era (as for why they still want it today, I have no clue). It is the same reason why Ukraine was forced to house Russians in the Donbass region and was given Crimea, why Transnistria exists, why Georgia has separatist dispute in the north of their country, and why Central Asian countries have the borders that they do it was to done to intentionally cause war. All of these conflicts were planned a century ago by the Bolsheviks and exploited today by the Kremlin.

    First I congratulate you for pointing out the often missed poing of Armenia occupying several Azeri majoritiy districtcs and subsequent ethnic cleansing said regions experienced. However, I feel the video is missing several crucial points.
    1. You should've gone into more detail of the Şuşas/Shushis demographics pre 1900 (in 1800s) when Azeris were the majority at some point.
    2. The Azeri refugees from the regions surrounding Artsakh and Artsakh amount to 400,000, which is 2x more than the whole Artsakh population. So Armenia ethnically cleansed 2 "Artsakhs" in Azerbaijani territory. The 400,000 numer doesn't account for the Azeri refugees who fled Armenia proper.
    3. Azeris are Armenians mixed with Persians and Turks, which is why their music and culture is very similiar to Caucasus Armenians. They are as native to the land as Armenians are. Their state mythology rejects this, but that doesn't mean they are less native or less human.
    With this in mind, is a future ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Artsakh more tragic than the cleansing of Azeris in the areas surrounding Artsakh? No. Armenians in Artsakh deserve to live in peace and security, but so do Azeris. Armenia, especially its younger generations after the 1st war, vehemently rejected even giving back the regions outside of Artsakh. The non-comprimising politics of the previous generations set up for the disaster of the second Karabakh war.

    • @AkravHistory
      @AkravHistory  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thanks for the comment and for recognizing some of the complexities of the situation.
      The demographics of Shushi did indeed change over time, but focusing on a single point in history like the 1800s can give a skewed perspective. It's important to look at long-term trends.
      The Azerbaijani government has been known to celebrate and award war criminals like Safarov, or more recently in 2020, the soldier who executed a civilian on video. This makes any attempts to "both sides" the issue highly problematic.
      And the fact that Aliyev repeatedly refers to Armenia as "Western Azerbaijan" perpetuates an environment where hostility can thrive, undermining any real hopes for a peaceful solution.

    • @plsegott
      @plsegott ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@AkravHistory
      Thanks for your answer.
      Yes, but neither Armenians or Azeris were a clear majority in Shushi (until the massacres of Armenians by the Azeris). Just because the Karabakh council choose 50% Armenian 50% Azeri Shushi as their capital doesn't make it more Armenian than Azerbaijani.
      Melkonian who became one of the leaders of the Artsakh movement was part of an ASALA terror attack which lead to the death of a 14 year old girl in 1980. Of course, Melkonian subsequent rise to one of the leaders during war times can subsume his role in killing a 14 year old girl in a terror attack.
      However, Armenias reception of ASALA terrorists who killed Turkish diplomats and civilians in Europe and Turkey is not limited to Monte. Varuzhan Karapetyan killed 8 people by exploding a bomb in the Orly Airport in 1983. When he was later released he was given employment and a place to live by the former major of Yervan, Nazaryan, and recieved the gratitude of prime minsiter Andranik Markaryan. Armenian society is sadly no different than Azeri when it comes to celebrating and making heroes of cold blooded psychopats (which is not that strange when you remeber that they have the same ancestry lol).
      I followed the 2020 Karakbakh war and I saw most of the cruel videos on telegrams with a clear majority of the perpetrators in the videos being Azeris, whether it was grave bodily abuse or destruction of cultural sites. So I agree with you in this regard.
      I also agree completely that Aliyev's rhetoric of Western Azerbaijan is beyond any acceptable level and should not be tolerated by anyone since it implies the destruction of the Armenia and hints to ethnic cleansing.
      However I would like to remind again of the political attitude that existed, not anymore, in Armenia with regards to the negoitation of the 6 Azeri majority non-Artsakh provinces. Armenia tried to legitimize its cleansing of 400k Azeris from the region (remeber, 2x the population of Artsakh) and try to keep the status quo of Artsakh forever.
      With that in regard, I believe supporting Mr. Pashinyan and opposing Azerbaijans outragous claims is the moral correct position at the moment. Artsakh becomes part of Armenia (or whatever Artsakh wants), 6 regions back to Azerbaijan and the opening of the Zangezur coridor for Turkey and Azerbaijan. The west never cared for Armenia and never will. No political entity that relies on western sympathy or Russian forces will ever survive in our region. Pashinyan is the only option.
      Armenia has evolved from the crazy 1960-70s winds that took over the world, and Armenias support of Mr Pashinyan in this regard is a proof of that. Sadly, Azerbaijan still has a long way to go.
      Keep up the videos!

      @@plsegotttrue, I have to say tho that the population of nagorno karabakh was predomantly armenian in the 18th century, as stated by the Georgian King Erekle (1769) and by Tsar Peter the great (1717), so even tho the Persian King Shah Abbas resettled lots of Armenians from Artsakh into New Djulfa(in Isfahan) approximately 300.000 Armenians and then settled lots of Kurds and Türks(North Azerbaijanis between them too)the territory still stayed Armenian populated mostly, as 1823 where Armenians werent resettled yet the population of nagorno karabakh was still majority Armenian, 90,8% the low land pastures were mostly populated by muslims by then tho, because of the deportations of Armenians out of the territory and deportations of Muslims into the territory!
      Even in 1918 where many of the lowland Azeris and other Turkic tribes residing in the lowlands traveled up into the moutainnous region the population still stayed 71,4% Armenian and even when Azerbaijan settled many Azerbaijanis into the territory to change its demographics it still stayed overwhelmingly Armenian!
      Armenia did ethnically cleanse lots of Azerbaijanis, but Azerbaijan did the same, it was from both sides!

      We should always go back to the root of the issue. Crimes which Armenians did in response to Azerbaijani crimes do not mean that Azerbaijan should continue occupying Armenian territory. The mass killing of Arabs by European immigrants who established a state in the East Mediterranean is an example of this, though the Arabs may not have been as brutal in their responses as the Armenians as far as I know.

      The name Bek signifies the Turkic title of Chieftain, the ottomans called their governors Bey, and turkmens and Uzbeks aswell as Kazakhs used this title, it’s origins are in old Turkic. So to answers your question, there is nothing that would indicate that the individual you mentioned may be of a turkified Armenian background, though such a group does exist.
